      I loved the Bourne Legacy and was excited to see someone reacting to it. I was not a fan of the Bourne Trilogy...I read all the books and just could not see Matt Damon in that role and the fact that they reduced Marie, his wife, to a minor role and in only one movie. She was a high powered economist for the Canadian government and instrumental in getting him out France. She had a major role in the books, but was minimized because we can't have the hero be married! But loved Jeremy Renner and Rachel Weiz...and Edward Norton...Paddy Considine player the reporter in the beginning...not well known here but a favorite of mine.

    Here's the hypothesis for those that want to believe Oscar is still 'out there' somewhere in the lore. Oscar Isaac removed his transponder already. He had it stowed in his pocket, ready to be tossed if he ever had to run. We all know the Golden Movie Rule '...if you do not see a body....' When he told Aaron 'we need to spread', Aaron went out the front while Isaac left his transponder in the cabin and hightailed it out the back door. Very possible for a Project Outcome agent.

    Reviews I read at the time were so-so because they were comparing it to the Damon films. When they chose Renner, they still liked him enough to want him in the film. As much as I like Jeremy Renner, I think Isaac would have been a good Aaron Cross.

  • @CineRam
    @CineRam 5 месяцев назад +8

    The dynamic between Aaron and Marta nicely mirrors the dynamic between Jason and Marie in the first movie. I think "Supremacy" is great, but in that movie Jason is limited to Pamela Landy as an ally, and only over the phone at that. It's better when the main character has someone to share the adventure with, someone to talk to. And Marta was way more important to Aaron than Marie was (at first) to Jason.
    I also like the way that information is not spoon-fed to the viewer. The dialogue is very tech-heavy and you need to pay attention to keep up. I've always been amused by Edward Norton's character, he seems to have his own special terminology, and uses it to sound smarter than he would if he spoke like everybody else. "Tune in to what I'm telling you," etc. The Bourne Legacy might be the movie that I've re-watched the most frequently in the series.

It follows the storyline of the original novel, with a run-time of 185 minutes; It was first broadcast as a mini-series rather than a TV movie. I agree with you guys, that it would be a lot of fun to revisit this sub-universe of the Bourne world. I noticed at least three potential prequels that they gave us little hints of, llittle tantalizing references to backstories that they could explore more if they decided to. Like, the incident that Marta describes at Fort Detrick back in the 80s. She said there was a lot of cutting edge science involved, and somehow there was a huge explosion involved that (temporarily) stopped the program. They could totally get a prequel out of that! I mean, who was responsible for the explosion?!?!? There are tons of cool possibilities. Also, apparently Aaron had some kind of romantic involvement with the real June Monroe, at some point in the past. Major story potential there. And, the Oscar Isaac character had some kind of romantic story in his past. What was the story there?? See, that's three possible prequels right there. I bet there could be even more. I say, bring 'em all on!!!

    • @lizberezin2919
      @lizberezin2919 3 месяца назад

      Regarding Oscar's character, I always felt that "You felt in love" line was improper and was just wasted real estate. The dialog starts with Aaron admitting he went AWOL and is now being punished. Then he asks Oscar what he did to deserve a stay in that training camp, and infers that Oscar fell in love. But Oscar should have asked Aaron why he went AWOL for 4 days, giving us a chance to extend our understanding of Aaron's motivations. Instead, we got some understanding into motivations of an unnamed character that is killed off a minute later, and we got an unsolved question regarding our main character's behaviour. Why did he go AWOL for 4 days? I'm curious.

    Glad you liked this one, I really like it myself, it's a shame it didn't do a larger box office, you know Hollywood bean counters just interpret that as a lack of interest and a rejection of Aaron Cross, so it knackers any hope of him being the lead in a sequel but it's still a good standalone.
    There is a 'Treadstone' TV series too, that's a prequel set in 70's.
    Great poll anyway, I'm no fan of the misuse of the word 'underrated' but there's a few there that definitely are, that did well in the poll, I hope you'll do them also soon. I've been requesting Predators & Alien 3 (Special Edition) for over 3 years now and they looked to come 2nd and 3rd to my bad eyes lol.🤞😊

    I think that if you don't have Matt Damon in a Bourne movie, you should definitely have Jeremy Renner, Rachel Weist, and Ed Burns. Good story and great action.

    The important word in the title of this movie is " Legacy " although it would be more accurate if they had of used the word " consequences". Even though the story is brilliantly Told, and acted, the best thing is filling in what the program is and what it does to the participants/ Agents , as the Matt Damon movies don't really go into that sort of detail. The other comments suggest " Wind River " if you like more Jeremy Renner to watch, this is a brilliant movie that has you going through all the emotions.

    I love the fact that "The Bourne Legacy" was also shot in the Philippines, along with "Apocalypse Now", "Platooon" and "An Officer and a Gentleman." Although tricky, the climactic chase scene through Manila in "The Bourne Legacy" is one of the most heart-stopping action sequences in film history.💯

    So, there's a whole behind the scenes drama with these movies, that I discovered as a fan, and I think is pretty fascinating. It's a whole long thing, and I get the feeling that this comment is going to be largely ignored, but I can give you the long version if you want, but the short version is that Paul Greengrass, the director of the 2nd and 3rd one, and Tony Gilroy, who is basically the writer of the first four, had some feud going on between them. I don't exactly know who's right or wrong, but based on the work, I'm on Tony Gilroy's side. For whatever reason, Matt Damon stuck with Paul Greengrass, but I also think that after the first one, he never really wanted to keep doing them, and his career never really needed him to. Anyways, they couldn't get Matt Damon or Paul Greengrass to do a fourth one, so Tony Gilroy wrote and directed this one without them, which pissed them off, even though they didn't do anything when given the chance, and the next one Paul Greengrass wrote and directed himself, and Matt Damon came back, except now much older, and I'm pretty certain that Paul Greengrass' intention was to destroy everything Tony Gilroy built, and basically start a new thing, but his new take sucked!

    I do like the broader world that they show here, and how deep the conspiracy and corruption that is tied into Bourne and Cross, and how they came to be basically "super-soldiers".
    They've had some real scummy villains in the series but none that seem as cold and "soulless" as Byers (Edward Norton).

      For sure. Most of the Bourne movies you are given glimpses into the spy network. -------- This movie gives a top level down look at how deep they operate. I love that aspect of the movie.

    Paul Greengrass directed the 2nd and 3rd Bourne movies, and after those successes, Damon said that he would only do another Bourne movie if Greengrass returned to direct (he also said that he thought the character's journey had come to an end, but the "without Greengrass" excuse was mentioned a lot). At the time the studio was asking for a fourth Bourne movie, Greengrass was not interested, so Damon said no. So that's why they went with the spinoff idea with Renner.
    Legacy was written and directed by Tony Gilroy, who wrote/co-wrote the first 3 Bourne movies, so he was well-versed in the world of Jason Bourne. He had also directed Michael Clayton, which was a big hit and was nominated for a lot of awards, so he seemed a great choice to direct this film.
    Many years later, Greengrass came up with an idea for another Bourne movie, which became Jason Bourne (the 5th film). And since Greengrass returned, so did Damon. Gilroy was not involved with the 5th film.

    i'm so glad you liked this movie as it got some undeserved criticism simply because fans wanted damon, but i thought renner did an excellent job in the role. it was tight and well paced.
    if i had to nitpick, i would say the final boss fight was a little underwhelming (or not as satisfying) because the antagonist just died in a motorcycle crash - we were robbed of a potentially great hand-to-hand combat scene (like the bourne vs desh fight in 'ultimatum')

    If you guys haven't seen Renner in The Hurt Locker, it's an amazing film and performance from him.
    This film, while not great, isn't bad either. I do wish they could have gotten Damon in for a 10-15 minute crossover. I think it would have tied everything together, given the script a tiny bit of credibility, and left things open for Renner to continue things in a spin-off if Damon really didn't want to continue with Bourne. That being said, since they didn't do that, I kinda wish they had left things at the original 3 films. But, you know Hollywood. Lol

    Sorry to be a ball buster but I've commented before y'all need to do the wire. On HBO it's a spectacular show. I left a comment about a year ago and got shut down by some troll or some hater on your channel that was saying that the wire isn't a good show or that plenty of people have reacted to it. Nobody's really reacted to it that does good channels like you guys and I love your podcast so I'd really appreciate it if you do the wire. Or consider it and, spread this amongst fans. So many people love that show. Just saying.
