Sweet ride! My pops has a 80' elco with a 406, TH400, and a lil' welded 7.5 lolz. He had that engine built in the late 90's. Still runs great. Too bad he doesn't have the build sheet. They can be some torque monsters!
@@robertog4351 I understand. But a 400ci sbc is defective in many way. The weight coming around from the heavy crankshaft causes breakage and barely good for 550hp max.because of weak main caps. You can destroke it is best to the 377 mark which will last a long time and not hard on the 400 main caps.Or have it internally balance 400 but again the blocks are weak against power. Or, use an after market dart block. Not trying to talk you out of anything. I've built all the smallblock chevys for 35yrs+. I've done it all. Had problems with stock 400 chevys engines except destroked 377's. Only mild power 400 stock block held up fair. You don't want 4 bolt main 400, they are very weak not like 4bolt main 350. The 2 bolt main 400 block is what you would tinker with with splayed caps to handle the 550hp range and lower. Unles you build bone stock. I'd be inclined for a little 358ci or a 385 stroker.for a SB.
