Great, great player.
I am an Englishman and an English (and Lions) rugby fan who was not brought up in a rugby environment. It was in the mid-to-late 70s that I was permanently turned on to rugby by two things: the all-conquering Wales team ... and Andy Irvine. [with a special mention, also, to Bill McLaren].
I always thought the way he played came from a very gifted player and yes I am biased to an exciting game of running rugby which obviously made for a lot more entertainment if both teams were involved.
Loved how this player moved around on the pitch.
