I really do enjoy your reviews. Regardless the watch, the presentation is always respectful, never patronizing. Even more, I enjoy the little bits of humor inserted here and there, both obvious and tongue-in-cheek. I'm always left with a smile on my face after each video, and that alone, despite the watch review, is worth the price of admission.
Andrew recently interviewed Roger Smith, and in the interview, RS confirmed that he uses CNC machining too. The problem with pre-industrial watches is simply that they weren't very good. Machines improved them and continue to get better, producing better watches.
I’ve already checked them out and I’m very impressed. I definitely appreciate the openness of companies like this, Sartory-Billard is another, that don’t lie or mislead about their suppliers. Great looking watch at a very fair price.
I’ve the salmon dial , it’s a piece of art really, I enjoy it a lot , the finishing of the watch, strap and the packaging- you will receive a drawing of the design inside the box - everything to the level of high end watches
a drawing of the design, wow, they really went to down there.
Glad to hear that you are enjoying your Ophion.
This watch is incredible. I purchased the burgendy "blood" color Singapore limited edition and I couldn't be happier. Amazing finishing, great looks, wearable size, beautiful movement, 5 days of power reserve. All of that for a very reasonable price that bearly buys you a longines or a Tudor. God bless you Miguel
Congratulations!
In my journey, I've had to get clear as to what I really fall in love with about a watch. My eye is also changing, and refining itself. For me it's not so much a famous name or statistics, it's style, finish and functionality. If I can get those things for reasonable money, I'm all in! That said I'm a guy who bought a Skoda instead of the A3, and loved it!
I have the dark blue dial with black polished breguet number.
In normal view, the guilloche pattern is hidden and human eye can only captures the flat surface of the dial. However, the guilloche will show it self when adjusted to certain angle.
Black polished breguet number has very strong light reflection. If you are reading the watch pointing straight to your eye, the legibility is bad as the legibility black polished breguet number has no light reflection on it. However, this will be resolved by moving your hand forward / backward to capture the light just like camera. I believe 80% of us reading our watch with slight beveled hand rather than pointing straight to our eye.
I love the Breguet style numerals. I personally like the Vélos in rose gold tobacco
Amazing, great job bringing it attention. The reveal of the reverse was a really 'wow' moment for me.
Nice to see something different from the run of the mill offerings. Beautiful watch with lovely dial and hands, excellent movement, and fine finishing. Shows what can be done if you put your mind to it.Only wish I could afford one.
A nice watch for sure. Takes cues from Breguet and Vacheron.
It’s a very interesting point you make here. Increasingly newer watch brands are making watches that are offering a lot for the money cf older companies, some of whom take the piss
Nobody in the pub has a bloody clue what I'm talking about, when I talk watches😢
We know the feeling 😊
You’re in the wrong pub.
So, the maker of that movement (technotime) went bust and was bought by STP. I don't know about anyone else, but I wouldn't particularly like to have a somewhat complex movement with this decoration that can only be sent back to... STP of all places for a service. (OPHION is just a couple of people, they ain't servicing your watch).
Thanks. That was my first question. Please see my comment.
This is my favorite kind! High quality machining to give the beauty of a high end watch, while being honest about it. As opposed to those that use the same techniques and go for so much more under false pretense and perception.
And it feels really great in the metal.
I was the first person in Spain, apart from Miguels family, to get the salmon dial Velos.Added the upgrade bespoke strap from a Spanish artisan.I posted pictures on High Horology Lounge a couple of weeks ago and it got a lot of interest and respect from the members.
“Or is that too much like seeing how sausage is made?”
I almost spit out my food 😂😂😂
I absolutely love your presentation style and your sense of humor!

They could not even bother to proportionally space the characters in the name.
The wide space on both sides of the I looks so ugly.
But why would you care? I am sure it is a high-margin watch that is easily available.
as a designer the first thing I saw was the terrible letter spacing...
@@Lord_englishgent This whole watch thing is mostly what we, in the Netherlands, call "fried air".
They are, of course, just promoting their business.
And there is no harm done. I see it like gambling: taxation of stupidity.
@@olafzijnbuis Talking about not bothering, have you seen the back of a Tudor 925? Looks like a base sellita. Not a polished bevel to be found.
Rolex groups watches have much more problems than the kerning. Those who buy one of the multi-million watches Rolex/Tudor are rolling off the assembly lines are paying a much higher stupid tax rate - all they're doing is paying off the machinery and marketing used so that Rolex/Tudor can sell more volume to suckers believing that their watch is expensive because they're "exclusive" and "luxury" - never mind that the robots at Rolex and Tudor are churning out industrially finished movements by the million.
I wasn´t sold on this Ophion model in particular at first... until I saw the "Gilt Spectre". That is quite stunning.
Thanks a lot, there will be soon a second edition of the Gilt Spectre.
Any sufficiently advanced technology is perceived as magic. Not sure who I am paraphrasing , but the analogy fits here. I am a fan.
Watchfinder finally found a watch for me
It's still $3000+
Let us all know when you get it 🎉
Have you ever seen the devil dance in the pale moonlight?
@@zainshaikh527 very well done 👍🏼 it shows that you're at least 80s baby 🤣😎
Its a beautiful piece of watch making. Seems to all work well together without one particular detail fighting another. Beautifully crafted, beautifully designed and you don't need a 2nd mortgage and emptying the children's college fund to own.
well said.
3:19 Query: What brands are misrepresenting the “handmade” construction of their watches? Who is blurring the meanings of the words “handmade” with “hand-finished”?
All of them, they all use machines in the manufacturing process
AP, rolex, omega, Panerai to name a few
Google it and share findings here!
It is not an issue to charge handmade prices if you don’t say “handmade.” For example, Rolex doesn’t say the watches are handmade and doesn’t hide the fact that robots are the masters (including inventory control). The problem is representing “handmade”’when it’s really “hand-finished” or “machine-made”. This requires some understanding of the manufacturing process for brands that I don’t have, but would like to know. It may affect the desirability of watches or reconsiderations of value relative to RRP.
0:20 Maybe it's the macro magnification, but the Ophion logo looks like a poorly made uneven print. It's a shame, because the rest of the dial looks refined.
Onion has leaf and root tilted, looks like optical illusion. On the other shots the logo is centered
The spacing looks inconsistent, and the alignment of first O looks lower than the N.
Beautiful watch, but what is the size of the case and how accurate?
You are forgiven for putting Tudor in the title to game views because its nice to see you bring something new and interesting. Looks like a custom Roger Smith but with a better sounding name.
Such a beautiful watch. As I am just entering this value level of watch buying, it is so interesting to see watches not from the usual suspects. Thank you for the video.
Independent watchmaking is really on the raise, and the options are really many.
70% Swiss 30% German ? Reminds me of a Homage. IWC Ingeneur have the same pattern and Rolex have already done the indice italics. It's not for me .
where's the backdrop film camera?
That is a good looking watch. Fantastic work. Great video. Filming is definitely as good as the watch
I'm a huge fan of this brand and this watch, thanks for another awesome video!
The banding on all the anglage seems like low hanging fruit to meaningfully increasing the quality of this watch. Very cool
What a fantastic piece. So elegant.
Gorgeous. Added to my list of watches to buy alongside the Otsuka LOTEC No6 Meteorite.
The movement is stunning, simple but elegant.
Beautiful watch. Those tiny, tiny imperfections are likely far too small for me to make out anyway. With a date complication I would be very tempted.
Given that this is a unique movement I'd have liked to hear more about it! Beat rate, gear train layout, any unusual design quirks? Why is power reserve, that most uninteresting and over-rated of attributes, the only thing we hear about these days?
I see your point; however, I think many people prefer a "multiple day" power reserve on hand-wound movements. That being said...I have never understood the fascination on automatics.
@@bradyreid9270 Yup, I can see the point in hand-winding movements, less chance of the watch running down because you forgot to wind. With automatics it's completely pointless unless you want to swap watches on a daily basis, which in my very personal opinion is a decadent modern habit. ;-) You should wear any given watch long enough to bond with it and let the rate settle down on the wrist, which means several days at least. I have a certain nostalgia for the time when a man would have only one or perhaps two watches and would wear it day in, day out.
I would say it cost as must as a Tudor now. However very nice watch.
Gorgeous, with substance.
What i hated living in the third world country is unable get these micro watches at MSRP without any crazy additional cost
That's a great looking piece. Kudos to WF for giving them some airtime. I'll be looking closer at them.
They look great 'in the metal'.
The guys at Limited Edition are very cool to talk to.
That dial is stunning
Where’s it made then? I can’t see Swiss Made anywhere, so German, Chinese?
Majority made in Switzerland but did not reach the needed % to put Swiss made on the dial. The rest is made in Germany, please watch bill Sanders video about this watch. It has a lot of great information about it
Goddammit, that is world class design. I still think they'll regret the chemical bluing, but purely from a design pov, this watch is flawless.
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful! "how a sausage is made" is right up there!
Service? Repair? How serviceable/reparable is this unique movement?
This movement is based on a standard architecture movement that is used in other watches. Please watch bill Sanders video about this watch...a lot of great information
As Jeremy Clarkson said: Hand made is just another saying for that the door will fall off.
My humble opinion is that this look only ever works if it's showcasing high end skills and great care. If a watch is bought purely for the look the point is missed.
Beautiful watch.
Very cool design. Definetly has some Voutilainen vibes
Website says thermally blued numerals and hands, they are not chemically blued.
Beautiful! Just wish it were a tad larger.
I cannot believe how different this looks in video versus Ophion’s website. Based on the website, I’d have never given it a second glance.
the dial and movement look really nice I guess, but I do not like those lugs !
Where can you buy this?
On their website. But be prepared to wait for a while until they make and test it for you
Amazing 🔬⌚️🎬📽😎🎩🤟
The honesty of this watch is refreshing, and it has the bonus of being very good looking, so much so that I am going to order one.
Cool CNC built dial but take a look at Artelieur Wen and the Perception with hand made guilloche dial, integrated 904l steel bracelet with micro adjust clasp for around 2.5k USD
Atelier wen is completely in tribute/ ripoff territory
Very nicely done, fine looking dress watch that will turn a few heads
Stunning, gorgeous, amazing watch. That could be my new grail. Cheers!
A beautiful anything is still beautiful no matter how it is made
It might be time to start highlighting the designer over the manufacturer.
Edit- did I seriously just see a commercial for a Spiderman watch? Royal oak Spiderman? ???
What's next? Mickie mouse?
Sold out a long time ago
I would go for this one instead of a Tudor 😊
The lighting seemed off on this one....
Damn. I didnt know this guy..and i live in Spain xD it looks fkin class
a new mic?
No problem with machine made. I suppose I get the appeal to the human touch stuff, but I can't afford. Even if I could afford, I don't think I would spend that kind of money on something like a watch.
It gives the IWC Da Vinci a run for the money at that price.
BB58 all day
Nice watch
Reminds me of a Chronoswiss design
Please, where’s our beloved table?
Gorgeous 👌👍
Truth must be told.
Have you been watching the Opusntime Watches channel?? Unbeeeeeleeeeevable!! 🤣😂🤣😂
Video starts at 4:50
3D printed wrist watches are starting to gain traction as well.
The Logo on the dial looks like it proudly made in China
That's nice.
Once the current recession devolves into a "great...er depression" I look forward to reviews of watches that are more within my price range (assuming I've successfully hedged for this event) as I don't consider watches $1,500-$3,500 cheap. Or maybe just a few videos for great value watches under $500?
Please make one in 42mm. I have large wrists and XL hands. I can't really wear less than 40mm without looking like I borrowed my wife's piece. These are mbeautiful timepieces, though.
Lose some weight then.
£100 or £100,000. As long as, unlike Hublot, they are open about what I am paying for, then I don't care.
That text is crooked
I dunno, the design leaves me cold, they should have hired the guy who designed Moser's Streamliner, that's original and looks like high end watchmaking, this looks like something they could have produced in China, it's probably masterful engineering but design is also about emotional impact. The Spaniards, what can you do, they can't design a really good looking car either.
This wrecked design won't change my mind!
As soon as I heard "chemically blued hands" I knew it was cheaper because it is cheaper. No miraculous affordable entry to HH here........... Again!!
I do wish you wouldn't always draw a comparison with Tudor, as in "You can't have this instead of a Tudor...blah". Pretty sure I'm not the only person who thinks they're at best very bland, boring and very samey! I'd rather have almost anything else other than a Black Bay Meh.
I see this is a different wooden table and someone may have stolen that Pentax MX with the 50MM SMC F1.7 lens. OK, back to business. I love the design and execution of this piece, less sweaty fingers involved in nailing it together with tolerances of "that'll do mate" uttered from the mouth of a craftsman....... But seriously most watch manufacturers employ metal people caller "Roburt"(pronounced Robot) to do the difficult things that people could get wrong or can no longer do. After those pesky inconsistent flesh bound humans created Roburt they removed the need for people to do the work. Roll on 100 years or less and we see our metal employees (yes and they have workers rights with holidays and break down pay and servicing breaks under warranty) going to work wearing a mechanical wrist watch not produced by the now extinct bipedal human. This post is a satire..... or is it. Let's see in 100 years time by which time I'll have leapt from my mortal coil anyway so I'll never know. Oh and my name is Roburt.
At last, just like the old days, a watch with arabic numbers, we are not un-impressed!
superbe
So this is classed as in house movement?
Onion is expensive nowadays
Talking Hands got a cold?
I'm sorry but where is 3000 dollars cheap? I'd like to live there!
No but seriously, I think this watch is cool and all, but it has some faults and given the rise of awesome microbrands and that this watch is proudly machine made, I think it should be way cheaper.
❤
overpriced at 3,300 Euros
What's happened to your voice ? Seems pitched down
The numbers style just reminds me of a $5 watch from the beach looky-looky man. It's a no from me.
A bit expensive at $3k, as are most brands at that level. Also, I don't like the dial.
