Lysol laundry disinfectant does wonders on funky smelling old fabrics. So far used on - old and musty, moldy, urine, cigarette smoke, perfumed and lastly nasty sweaty workout type clothing (lol). No stain removal, but generally one soak after washing has made most things smell normal again.
So, fun fact; that "paper" you didn't put on the back of the bookcases, is actually engineered to make the bookcases stronger and prevent "racking", which is the side-to-side wobble that makes them unstable. It's really an integral part of the bookcases, and I wouldn't recommend anyone leave that off. And if you hate the color of it and want it to match or contrast your walls, you can always paint or wallpaper it before attaching it to the back of the bookcases. Anyway, just my 2cents. The extra boards you installed will certainly help, so good job! I love the overall look of how it all turned out.
This video: Tells me everything I need to know about your real life experience behind the scenes of performance art (my passion is community based theatre). I KNOW you! The concept before construction-to hell w/ measuring & construction… redesign because things aren’t as expected; back to store… again and again…hardware… more construction… LEAF BLOWER!!!… working in TINY cluttered spaces, working late, working in the dark! Tedious bits, of COURSE hot glue gun comes in handy somewhere!!!!! The anticipation of a glorious outcome and ending up with a fantastic look! Now for the closet! Trust your skills. They don’t leave you.
I think the distinction between weird youtuber things and dark academia is *ahem* academic 😂 and thanks for not keeping us in the dark about the real status of the rest of the room ;)
A note about perfection: Perfection is only required if you are charging a client an obscene amount of money for your services. If you are doing work for yourself, there is only 1 requirement, safety. You get to decide what level of perfection works for you without any need to justify your decisions. AND, your finished result is AWESOME!!
I can't look at paint names when I'm choosing a color-- I'm just too easily influenced by something cute or quippy. Also, A++ for thoroughly vacuuming your floor first.
I laughed out loud when I actually got goosebumps at the reveal- because you're SO pumped about the way it looks, which is exactly the way we should feel! "It's dark academia enough for me!" I'm presently making my bedroom just the right amount of gothic mystical cozy pirate sea cave- for me. 😁👍
Not only did this come out really fun- props to you for doing it! The number of times I've created an organization system and it /just doesn't work/ but I'm too embarrassed or some other emotion to change it to something that /does/ work is higher than I'd like to admit. Good on ya!
THANK YOU for showing how you went through piles putting every item away. I usually move the pile somewhere as a whole to "deal with later," then I stare at piles of piles and even boxes of piles for weeks all the while looking for things *in* the piles that I've forgotten were in the piles, so I rebuy the things, put them in a pile, and ... yeah. Seeing you do that made something click in my brain and I got up to go through some piles to put everything away. 😆 Also, I have three of those bookcases, two set up similar to yours with my rolltop desk below. I LOVE them! They've held up surprisingly well after two years. But they don't look nearly as good as yours. I need to add that trim because I NEED some of that GORGEOUSNESS. Ya done good, girl. It's simply beautiful.
This came out so good! I love the candle brackets with the electronic candles - wonderful idea ❤. I can’t believe I never thought to use board to organize my fabric stash like that. Makes it look very clean and professional
Tina is so sweet. Also I know this is the wrong video, but congrats to her for her first vintage dress. Her excitement was infectious. Edit: to fix a typo
Looks fab ! ❤ Btw I was a paperhanger for about 25 yrs and so I can say it was probably easier to paper ( sticker 😅) that square after the bookcase was in place rather than ...
20:00 Hey, you're doing the thing and working on it to completion. That's better than my projects lately 😆. Like, the 7'6" x 6' L shaped desk. I'm so scared of it not being perfect that it's just been taking up space... in the garage.. for YEARS. Finally started working on it again lately, but omg it's so hard to work below freezing. My fingiiies, they get so numb so fast. And the paint doesn't work below 40F soo there's that too.
Did you really think you could finish a project without at least three trips to Lowe’s. 😂 I live in HomeDepot when I do home improvement projects. 😂 It turned out gorgeous!! AND I love your hair too!!! Gerl, you are too much! 🔥🎉🎉🔥
Thank you so much for this video. I got my first sewing machine in 1973 and used it until 2018. It saved me a bundle on finishing needlepoint projects, creating curtains, creating presents for my kids, purses, totes, and organizers. What I love is FABRICS! I love the idea that I’m going to take up sewing again, that I am magically going to create Instagram-worthy projects and that I will have beautiful artsy clothes if have the right IKEA storage units. Folks, I have decided to simply declutter it all-except for specific projects that I schedule with concrete deadlines. My beautiful fabrics have not magically pushed me to sew and having them on shelves isn’t going to change that. BTW, I’m keeping the genuine Indonesian batik, the genuine French Provençal woodblock cotton, genuine silks, woolen felt, Belgian linens, and swatches of fabric from the baby clothes I made for my children. I’m not a fool.

Only the cabinets and cubbies under my cutting table are wood. My large plastic tubs/totes are on commercial/restaurant grade metal shelving. My husband figured the weight would eventually warp wood shelving. My IKEA bookshelves did bow downward in the middle..... After twelve years. My husband's renovations also included a religious shrine (why not)..... Gotta love the guy ❤
LMFAO I love how you were like, Oh the other side is totally fine” and then at the end of the video we see the huge mess on the other side 😂 the new system looks great though!
That looks so Great! And I was gifted the screaming goat in my Christmas stocking, lol. Mine sits on my cutting table I love your shelf. Most Excellent!
loved the V. dramatic CinnamonTography. thanks for sharing the process with us, seeing the good the bad and the ugly of a project is always appreciated.
Your videos never disappoint! This turned out so beautiful--perfect mix of elegant and quirky. And I knew from your stage management background that you would be handy with power tools and have an impressive "vocabulary". :D
Ive worked with fabric that had that same matching problem. Sometimes measure 3x cut once is good. The trim on the bookcases was my fav. Enjoy your sewing room.
It turned out great, love the curtains to keep the fabrics out of the light! I relate very hard to the curtain sewing emotions right now. I just got done making frog closures by hand because I couldn't find finished ones like the ones in my head, but I know my future wool coat will look so much better with them... My brain was STRUGGLING every step of the way. 😅
I love your hair but keep wanting to see it with the curly girl method! You and Rebecca! (I'm a ginger and my hair is about the same as the two of you. We need to all get our ringlets and meet for tea someday.)
I'm lovin' me one salty dog... and the colour is nice too, lol. And who cares about the Kiddo definition of "Dark Academia", the build-in looks Amazing. So well done. Please take a victory lap. You did the thing! And, as a side note - there's a guy on The Ebay who sells needles for the Singer Sewhandy child's machine. It will take it from a glorified paperweight to working sewing machine. I'm presently using mine to teach the 19 yr old God Kiddo how to sew when we meet up at a local gaming cafe. Yay portability. - Cathy (&, accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown/Pimisi
WOW! An inspiration wall! Such neat sewing collectibles, great ccolor choices. I didn't know U had all those skills Stephanie, great result again.. be blessed blessed all
I love it! It will be a fantastic backdrop to your videos. I love vintage/gothic-y stuff too. Just wanted to say ‘hi’ from the UK and that I love the channel. In a social media world that’s nearly always fake I love your realism. Keep keeping it real. 🌿🍂 🌿🍂 I was going to do a flower emoji…then I remembered 👍🏼

I was hired because I sew and could do all the tiny trim cuts. true...also, we never outgrow our mothers...and i am more than old enough to be yours..... hope it works out well for you.
I've been doing up my craft space too. A local DIY place, Homebase, is in administration, and everything is on sale, before Christmas cube shelves were 30% off, now, they are 50% to 80% off everything, so I've bought two 4x4 cube shelves, and (so far) two 2x4 shelves, and I think I'll be getting some more 2x4 shelves, as they fit on top of the 4x4. And I want some for other rooms too. I also have a storage place that's full, and needs sorting. When I have the storage done in my craft room, I can start moving stuff back into it.
I agree about wallpaper. I have often painted walls or borders in my homes. I had a duplex for 12 years. Taking down the 1970’s foil wallpaper was hell. I will hand paint wall decorations from now on, or leave it solid colored and use art & fabric to add interest.
Love this! The other side of the room, is like everything I do. This shelf: awesome! The rest of the place, lol. (Also that print is so worth the money.) And finally, I love seeing you wear so much of what you've made in other videos.
Fabulous job, Stephanie! I'm so proud of you for sticking with it and not giving up. I'm another sewist who also does a lot of home reno/DIY stuff and I love power tools! This looks like something my kids (in their late 20s/early 30s and all book nerds like their mom) would go for in a big way. Me, too! 🙂
The end result is amazing! So much work, I am exhausted just watching. I'm also reminded that I need to clean out my own "cave" lol xo Annette in Michigan

My general rule for home improvement projects is …it will take twice as much money and three times as much time as you thought.
Don't forget and cause chaos in theoretically unaffected zones
and if you haven't made at least three trips to Lowe's you probably forgot something.
I go with 3 times the cost and 3 times the time anyone tells me, then I am happy when it only takes twice as long and costs twice as much.
@crwilley For sure...but in my case, my local Ace Hardware
at minimum.

Well done, you! (My carpenter grandfathers called that "nail driver" thing a "punch" or a "nail setter".)
I learned it as "nail set," so I'm guessing there's regional variations out there.
Also nail set

I'm impressed you cut a bit to fill the gap. I would've just cut the big board in two and scooched down the ends to where they needed to stop.

loved the V. dramatic CinnamonTography. thanks for sharing the process with us, seeing the good the bad and the ugly of a project is always appreciated.
I love this and the creative use of off the shelf products to make it. Give me some haunted mansion vibes
It is a georgous creation and you should be very pleased and proud! Thank you all very much for sharing! 😊❤👍💖🥰💜
My library is that color!!!! Its cozy!
It really is! I had to stop myself from redoing the whole room in that color
It's called a nail punch or nail setter. ❤❤❤ I was going to ask what did you do with the rest of the fabric but I saw it at the end. 😱🤣🤣❤️❤️

Thank you for showing us this wonderful project. You are truly a woman of many talents. Also, we have the same Vogue Sewing Book from 1974!
It turned out great, love the curtains to keep the fabrics out of the light!

15:47 that trim is so perfect! Very hobbit core!
RIGHT! I saw it and knew it had to be mine.
I don't know, your supervisor is pretty judgy over there. 29:08
I love your hair but keep wanting to see it with the curly girl method! You and Rebecca! (I'm a ginger and my hair is about the same as the two of you. We need to all get our ringlets and meet for tea someday.)
37:04 IT'S SO GOOD!!!

As a fellow Stage Manager - I see that spike tape!!! And it warmed my ❤️
I came here to say the same thing!
Your hair is gorgeous :) I'm getting itchy looking at it because I would go nuts with it touching my face xx
Thank you! I have never minded my hair touching my face, but I do get it.
FIRST TRY, BABY!!! YEAH!! You got this!!
It looks so cool.
WOW! An inspiration wall! Such neat sewing collectibles, great ccolor choices. I didn't know U had all those skills Stephanie, great result again.. be blessed blessed all
I admire you for this mammoth undertaking🎉❤❤ I think the final result is a splendiferous unique creation and looks fab in your sewing space!!!! 💙🩷💚
Not me literally crying at 22:51.
I'm so happy for you, Stephanie!
❤very theatrical xx love, love.....and the background music was a nice touch..
You've done a fabulous job. It looks wonderful. And it suits you. Very well done.

I'm impressed by you sewing while standing. The bookcase turned out great!
new hair looks great!!
Thank you!
Your other side look like my livingroom rigth now. 😂 is the middle of fixing it finding nothing and risk of drowning when adventure into it
I fully understand that. Sometimes, it just takes time and a drive to get it done.
@StephanieCanada a d figure out how me move a sofa bed between two rooms alone
@@AnniCarlsson A skateboard under one corner. I've moved a LOT of things with a skateboard !
@m.maclellan7147 still corners, doors that just fit it and over 100 kg sofa
@AnniCarlsson bribe a friend !? Another woman & I moved a fridge that way once !?
Love the blue! I’m in a one bedroom apartment so no option to do a built in. My sewing is about half the apartment.
It’s perfection! I love it. So much I even put my head round my sewing room door!…… and retreated.😄
38:55 That is Not a 'little project', but it is most certainly a gorgeous one!
Wishing happy creating times in that lovely space to you.
This was really beautiful. The comment from KandyLamb was correct. As someone who has put together so. many. bookshelves. I agree with KandyLamb's information about the back panels of the book shelf. But this was really great. Thank you.
Stephanie…. Sooooo cool. You really was successful in elevating your sewing space. I always enjoy your videos❤
Love the dark blue top it’s really your colour
It’s dress it’s really lovely
I love your hair! And that blue dress is 💖💖💖💖💖 on you!
So. Very. Cool!
And if you decide to argue with the curtains about odor then the old trick of dousing the fabric item with the cheapest vodka you can find and letting dry really does work.
That blue shirt with the ruffles is beautiful.
Wow girl, that hair looks great.
I love the epic soundtrack to the bookcase construction!
It looks so good!! The wall sconces are just 🤌
Stephanie I SO enjoyed this video. It was: informative, impressive, entertaining, and freaking hysterical. 😂 *Cue the celebratory screaming goat! 🐐*
spectacular dialog as always
Thank you so much!
Absolutely gorgeous!!!!!!!!!!! You did an amazing job!!!!!!!!!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much!
That trim is to die for.
That blue dress is perfection 💙💙💙
That's very similar to the color I painted my bedroom with this past summer. I love that color!
the additional shelves for the bookcases will help them not be so unstable; i sure hope you bought small and cheap angle brackets to reinforce the corners and the other angle brackets to attach the shelves to the studs. as a side note....next time use the car waxing terry covered pads from dollar general or walmart to apply the stain....works great. with stain you do not need layers of stain as it will never cover the grain. either use paint or they make colored stain....i call it paint stain....fantastic stuff. sorry to be so bossy sounding, but i know more about building etc... than I do sewing. both my husbands bought me tools for special occasions...I was Daddys helper as a child., I even worked awhile at a custom cabinet shop. I was hired because I sew and could do all the tiny trim cuts. true...also, we never outgrow our mothers...and i am more than old enough to be yours..... hope it works out well for you.
no one will ever notice where the wallpaper doesn't line up perfectly
Nope. Thankfully it didn't look THAT bad.
Great job! It looks amazing. You are such a pleasure to watch, your originality and style is refreshing. Thank you for sharing. I love your channel.
Thank you so much! Your kind words really warm my heart. ❤
I absolutely love how that turned out. Well done!
The blue paint and leaf trim are beautiful. Good job!
So. When you do stain, you put the stain on and then wipe it down with a cloth. That being said, I think it turned out great!
I 💕 that you have a toaster! I would do the same when I had mine!
Looks good in the sewing room. 😊
Thank you! I think so too
Love your l8ght switch surround
That turned out so fantastic. I think it is awesome. 🎉🎉🎉
I’m soooo glad your room looks like that ❤
I'm so inspired by you 😊
I also love your hair ❤
Aww thank you!
Omg. Your coffee cup. Deanna Troi!
I love Love LOVE that you took the face plate off the wall before painting THANK YOU
That wall is so beautiful!
At first I thought, oh no! It’s going to be so dark but oh my gosh!! Well done. It’s fabulous ❤
that trim stain came out sooo pretty!!!
Love your car. I have a Scion XB 2012. Love the older ones though my husband thinks I am crazy. Lol. Love your project also.
Ohhh wow! Love this! And haha love the humor too 🥰. But this seriously is very cool. I love the curtained storage for cloth!
Yay! It’s not that “other” home store or That “other” Hobby store being suggested. Target and Lowe’s yay! Thank you Steph I see you girl!
Me too. So happy.
Very pretty, good job with the centre punch. ❤
it turned out so pretty.
One of the funniest, most entertaining shows I’ve seen. You’re quirky, corny and adorable.
Well that's just fabulous!
You did it! It looks awesome.
Me, too! 🙂
I just love your videos, I never get tired of your snark. Well Done, Stephanie!
If you can upsize a pattern you can build a bookshelf. Never doubted you!!
Love it!!
(side note: very cute blue dress)
The end result is amazing! So much work, I am exhausted just watching. I'm also reminded that I need to clean out my own "cave" lol xo Annette in Michigan
You are your very own peanut gallery. How efficient 😂
