This nearly made me spit my drink all over my computer.
It'd be alright... that scraggle beard isn't worth saving. And his neck is going to be chafed as hell.
I know people think this video is stupid, but it's actually quite clever. He's talking of new beginnings. That beard took a considerable time to grow; something like that doesn't happen in just a week. It's something he grew over a long period of time, something he cultivated-a symbol of his past life. He's cutting it off as a way to start anew, and separate himself from the burdens of his past. A rebirth in a way. Like when someone moves far away from their old home to start a new life somewhere else and leave the grief the old home contains. It had to have a very jarring but liberating experience for him.

I was thinking the same thing! I was kind of dissapointed when I realized everyone was just focusing on the fact that he shaved his beard off. I thought the symbolism there was great, and the whole "He still had his hair" thing, I wouldn't have cut my hair either! nuh uh no way!
so it's the same as some women cutting/dying their hair to start anew

My name is Ash. I feel this song and it's video on the deepest level as I'm used to hitting a restart button on my image countless of times due to insecurities and the sayings of others. That goes without saying that i shaved off my moustache prior to 2018 for the so called "new beginnings". Love the video and the song, which correlates beautifully to emphasise the lyrics. Caught their show in Lakewood, OH a few months ago. Great live performance. Loved every second of it, which was really impressive seeing as they had to follow up Narrow/Arrow who were a surprise from left field who absolutely blew my mind.
I'm not much for words but I believe the song is far more than what you think it is. Video speaks volumes about about people's perspective of how you look. It's completely brilliant! If you notice at the end of it to smirk on his face is to prove who gives a flying f*** he still brilliant with or without it . Ignorant minds amaze me.
