Your calculations are about right on. Many people fail to consider the time, and the value of that time, when they boast of flipping a book. If I make $X at a job per hour, for example, why would I accept a tiny fraction of that to “work” during my hard earned leisure time? The Disney book I would have passed on just because it can be a fickel market. You may get say $100 but the right buyer may take a long time to come along. Not something you would want to trust to an auction as it may go for ten bucks if the right eyes don’t see it. The bagged Star Wars books on the other hand would have moved very quickly and probably higher than fair market value.
For a brief second at 1:42 I see "Demon Dreams" issue 2. I would have picked that up for sure if the price was $1 (sorta looks like it but hard to tell). I really like indie horror books from the 90's and older. They're often overlooked but their art and stories are just so good!
I've looked in a few boxes around here this week and some stores. Short short boxes. And four long ones in the town just over the Border in Oregon from California on the coast. And nothing. Just whatever was left that nobody wanted. And they won't put nothing new in until those are all gone. That's the way it is here in this little town where I live. It sucks.
I would have tried to get a deal on the Mickey Mouse Magazine -- they are ghosts. Also, they span Disney and comic collectors, double the potential buyer base. It would require a better look at the magazine then what you supplied in the video, though. I also would have been interested in those "pedigree" Disney comics. Those 90s animated movie/TV related comics are going nowhere but up as that target audience grows. Remember Darkwing Duck? Look up what those 90s comics are going for...
Agreed and that was sort of the appeal of it for me despite not being something I collect. Disney ephemera is such a huge market it was sort of why I wanted to appeal to others to see what they thought. Thanks for your feedback!
Batman Batgirl comic is cool. I got an X-Men 6. I did the same thing sort of, first of all I thought it was a three, rookie mistake since I'm a rookie, it's got a little tear at the top that goes through as the whole thing about the size of the tip of a little Pinky. The number six, I think it's still worth anything? I paid five bucks for it.
I like your logic on the purchase of the comics but I kind of fell in love with the golden age Jimmy the Cricket magazine. If you could of just purchased that golden aged one ohhhh yeah!
Interesting the way you think vs. the way a collector, like myself, thinks. We are hunting for any cool comic at a great deal while you hunt for the best ROI.
Only in that particular case. I’m a collector first and foremost and I don’t like buying things I don’t “like”. If I’m going to go outside of my collection it has to be something worth money, but I guess that’s the point of the video, if I didn’t want it for my PC it was hard for me to buy it on ROI alone.
If you were willing to hang on to the Jiminy Cricket book for a few years as an investment then you would definitely see it rise further in price - there's only one direction Golden Age books are going in and that's up. As for the rest, what you bought makes sense as they all have value. There were also some you skipped which I would have bought, like some of the variant cover issues of Infinite Crisis.
I agree, depending on the day I sometimes regret it. Also because my mother is a huge Disney and Jiminy Cricket fan and she’s still mad I didn’t buy it lol.
I would have offered less. I use to sell on eBay and it was the time it took to mail items that had me quit. Most, people don't realize the time it takes to manage an online store.
With what you got coming up, no it wasn't worth it. Unless the Conan was. Maybe the Conan. I'm not sure myself lol. But great video I liked it and I'll catch up on your videos and wait for your new ones. Thank you very much.
Can't find any modern ones at all. And like that box you found the Green Lantern in was looking at, comic book isn't worth two bucks and they got five, 10, 15, on a 50 Cent comic book. And they won't go down. That's just depressing. You know what I mean? You just got to LOL you know
I think you made the right decision unless he was willing to take less. Finding those keys is the thrill of collecting. Pays for the hobby if done right and feeds my habit.
Why did you think that was only a 1.0 to 1.5? I saw no tears, missing pieces, major stains or scribbles on the book. I think you undergraded that book quite a bit. I have books where the entire back of the book was scribbled on, big water stains, chunks missing, that still got a 2.0 or over.
Yeah I thought the same thing after I posted the video, probably closer to a 2.5, but I forgot to mention there were lots of games and crossword puzzles on the inside that were filled in, like a kid really enjoyed it. It don’t think it would affect the grade too much but it definitely didn’t present that well outside or inside.

Thanks for the comment! Yeah I gave him several offers including $60 just for the Disney and Star Wars books but he didn’t bite. I don’t think we were that far off in the end but couldn’t seal the deal.

If anything maybe the star wars 1-4 was a good one since it was still in a bag ?

Yeah I have days where I definitely regret it.

you made the right decision with the mickey nouse book
I think my X-Men 6 is Maybe a 1.5 to a 2.5 Maybe?
Not a bad outlook. As a golden age guy I would have bought the Mickey Mouse only though. It’s good to not buy everything you see though. Great stuff.
I would've done the same thing. Like T ravis on you tube says. Collect what you like.
i would have picked up that jiminy cricket book for pc. classical character
all doom books are hot now especially Doomwars
I wouldve passed, if I'm looking to invest in comics I like to make 50% or more of what I spent on the comic.

I think I could have bought most of the pawn shop box. :)
Where was this flea market?

It looks lkke you answered your own question.
not worth it. good call.
Nah, you made the right call, not worth all of that at all.
Not enough meat on the bone to spend $100 for them...
Agreed, thanks!
You should have offered $50.00.
