Heck yeah. These animals, more so the orangutan can establish friendships. Orangutans are actually quite gentle towards smaller animals (even if they're not, it's usually not on purpose) . The orangutan i grew up with were friends with the otter
Yeah... Exactly what I was thinking lol!... and I don't know who the announcer thinks she's kidding, but lol that wasn't "interest in his tail", either!
So cute! And it's more common than you think - even happens in the wild, somewhere on RUclips there's footage of a wild baby orangutan playing in the trees with a young gibbon. This probably marks the start of the maternal instinct in this young female orangutan, which is the strongest of all the great apes.

I am really curious: how do they see each other? Sure they are both apes (so are we), but they are rather different species. So do they see each other more like possible partners or allies or more like competion (for food, terrain, etc)
The orangutan is an ape, but the macaque is a monkey. Monkeys have tails. Apes (chimps, gorillas, orangutans, gibbons, humans???) do not. Interesting question though. I think they're just curious about different life forms like humans are.
