    Happy Wednesday all 🥰
    Just want to make sure to clarify: hats aren’t a substitute for sunscreen!!! Apply & reapply your sunscreen, every 2 hours. More if needed, for example with water resistant sunscreens & swimming.
    However, hats are a great *additional* layer of protection. And they’re quite stylish. 👒😄

    I was evicted this weekend. I'm terminal so people don't want me to die in their house(super illegal obviously but I am fighting too much to stay). I'm on IV nutrition so I was running a fever& wearing fans but my sunscreen kept melting off. Any tips on staying cool, and more hydration because I'm on so much diuretics for my heart failure that my skin is dry& angry. I'm also on heart meds that make sun more dangerous so I need to be more careful with spf.
    Your channel has helped me so much. So glad Memorial day is over. My new place has AC😁

      @AliceintheRabbitHole  Год назад +2

      I’m so sorry to hear you’re dealing with selfish people. It’s definitely illegal, but law aside, you’d think people would put kindness towards others first!?! You’d think people wouldn’t need a law to encourage that?! Ugh!
      What are you using for occlusives? Maybe a layer of Aquaphor/petroleum jelly alternatives would help to seal in your hydrating ingredients at night. That helps my skin a TON when it’s dry. It does require a more intense cleanser in the AM though; kind of the one drawback (although by more intense I really just mean: a basic foaming cleanser lol)
      Sending you all the good vibes 💕💕💕

    • @gwendolinehall1386
      @gwendolinehall1386 Год назад +2

      I'm so sorry. I'm glad your new place will have AC, I hope you can get comfortable quickly. My husband, when deployed to Afghanistan, said when they urgently needed to cool people down, they'd take packs of IV from the cooler and that'd help a ton and quickly! But I know that's different from a nutrition IV. I'm not sure how much you take at a time, if it can help cool your body temp down but I figure anything helps. Coolest water ingestion that you can manage, if you can't drink gulps of water, can you do small ice chips? Ice packs to the back of the neck are also hugely helpful. It's a great spot to help relieve heat around the brain, misting yourself with cool water can be helpful but I understand you don't want all your skincare to melt off. I think Alice's suggestion of an occlusive layer like aquaphor could be really helpful, you can also try refrigerating it for an extra boost of coolness and moisture.
      Sending hugs 💗

    Ok my friend - I appreciate and applaud your hat use AND emergency hat!! Now, can you help me solve my sun protection problem?: I was working in the yard, specifically splitting logs, on a super sunny day. I tan easily, but in strong sun, I can also burn, so I applied a nice layer of mineral sunscreen on my arms. That has 100% become a recipe for heat rash. I’m still recovering 5 days later. I almost wore my Uniqlo UPF sun jacket but with all the wood splinters flying everywhere, I didn’t wanna ruin it. I think I need to look at Goodwill for an oversized, long sleeved, white thin cotton men’s dress shirt that will keep me from getting too hot but will still cover my arms and costs $2. That was the best idea I could come up with. I assume rash guards will hold on to splinters? but I’ve never actually seen a rash guard in person :) so I’m not sure. Your advice would be appreciated. 🤓❤ P.s. my hat is very similar to your black one - fitting the hair/ponytail/clips is a must!!

    • @AliceintheRabbitHole
      @AliceintheRabbitHole  Год назад +1

      Oh ouch!! I hope it heals up quickly!! Hmm I’m not sure tbh. I feel like they’re swimsuit-like spandex so maybe a rash guard wouldn’t catch the splinters? But in all truth I’m not sure either! I started shopping for them (online lol) but it’s hard to say that what I remember them feeling like will hold up. Online shopping is so funny: I feel like you can have an idea for how something will be, and sometimes it ends up being spot on - other times, not so much 😅

    I found Mixsoon for $16... but haven't used it yet. I agree on the Skinfood Royal Honey Propolis Enrich Essence a it being great, but for me it's not always necessary and can be too muh. I bought a backup and will use it, but I'm actually waiting for a time when my skin feels stressed or maybe really cold weather. As far as a replacement for the snail essence... I understand the "this or that" comparison even though I don't treat it that way. I use the snail essence every evening as the last toner/essence step or before the kombucha essence (I know you use it more as a serum). I find while it has a vicious texture, it lacks an occlusive element making it almost feel like a thick soothing hydrator. The propolis essence on the other hand doesn't feel like an oil, but it feels much more occlusive to me and I'll include it right before moisturizer to lock everything in sometimes replacing a more potent active if my skin feels stressed. Interestingly enough, while this doesn't feel like a same purpose dupe, I do think my perception aligns to your point as it serving the same end goal of protecting the skin, just more with a ramped up effect.
    Exact comparison aside, I 100% align products as this or that in my head that aren't much alike. I've found my skin routine has steps with a purpose and products are interchangeable only to the extent they fit into one of the purposes. In the morning I have an antioxidant serum (vitamin c or something else), I have a hydrating toner step (don't care what the ingredients are), first step essences (ditto), a repairing serum (ditto)... etc. etc. I've gotten in the habit of passing on products that try to do too much because they don't easily fit into the routine and I often have favorites in steps like tret, cosrx, liquid gold, etc. that I don't want to interchange or ingredients (exfoliators) that I don't want to deal with in my routine.

    • @AliceintheRabbitHole
      @AliceintheRabbitHole  Год назад

      Ah you definitely feel me on the “this or that” situation! Yes it’s almost like the steps in my routine are open-ended rather than a specific product (as products are the end result of their ingredients and formulation, after all). It’s an intriguing evolution that has happened in my skincare journey. I wonder if you can know whether someone is newer to skincare or has been at it for a *while* based on whether they write out their routine as product names or as product concepts? That would be interesting to poll lol
      I rediscovered the place for those all-in-one products: very busy days!! I usually like to take the time for my routine (especially in the evening), but I was so busy for multiple days in a row that I just threw on some Sulwhasoo minis in the evening and called it a night 🤣 (so glad I packed those!)

I think propolis is naturally sticky like honey and I'll admit it, I'm so incredibly picky when it comes to sticky textures. I just can't do it lol The Cosrx propolis serum also left a film on my skin too.

      Have you tried the Beauty of Joseon Glow serum? That one has propolis and niacinamide, it didn't feel sticky at all on me

      @@sererev yes and thank you for reminding me. I bought the BOJ mini serums and the propolis was my favorite 😍 At first it does feel a little sticky but once it dries ( and it doesn't take long ) it feels so good on my skin. I have a couple of serums I'm almost finished with and I'll be using up that mini propolis. I'll most likely get the full size. I completely forgot about it lol I'm so glad you made a comment 🥰 I will say, I was surprised about the BOJ propolis. I thought forsure the snail/ginseng would've be my favorite.

      @@AliceintheRabbitHole I was quite shocked because I thought forsure I'd love the snail/ginseng serum. I recently tried the Klairs midnight blue calming cream 💙 and the Purito Oat in Silky Toner. The Calming Cream is my new obsession 💙💙💙 I will never go without. The Purito was a fail 😢 It has a thin watery milky texture but dried leaving my skin feeling gross. Sat on my skin with a filmy residue. I've been using it on body and I noticed that it foams up, it's so bizarre.

    I have the same knee-jerk reaction to mixsoon's price. But it's gorgeous, so I buy it anyway (even though it doesn't like some other product in my routine and pills a bit ¯\_(ツ)_/¯). I actually first heard about it via luchina recommending it for also massaging your face so it working with NuFACE totally makes sense.

    My skin can’t Handel the Skin-food propolis or snail mucin . I get tiny bumps everywhere :( apparently ppl with dust mite allergies can react to those ingredients:/

    Do you know of any other serums or essences that are similar to the Skinfood Propolis essence?

      Hmm. Aside from feeling that the cosrx 96 gives somewhat similar results, honestly it’s hard to think of a royal jelly/propolis/honey triple combo! There are certainly products that have one of those elements though (ie the cosrx propolis collection).

    It’s so funny you say how convenient it is to travel with the Kaja brand because kaja (가자) literally translates to “let’s go!” in Korean 😂😋
