BAAAALLSYYY BOSS MOVE -- ABSOLUTE REVOLUTION to choose a black female at the very beginning of the civil rights movement to do a duet together in a major motion picture. Elvis was a teen icon that symbolized a new generation and a new way of thinking. Young people were trying to change the world. Elvis made this move even before the rise of Dr Martin Luther King, and in fact this was a good 10 years after Elvis broke segregation laws in Memphis by attending all-black functions including 1940s civil rights planning meetings and he was WELCOMED. Why? Because he was playing and praying together with them as young kids in Shakerag and around East Tupelo. Guaranteed if ANYONE falsly called Elvis a racist (most famous being Chuck D)-- then they had NO IDEA of Elvis' childhood and upbringing.
This movie makes me sad because the potential for Elvis to be a really good actor not just a singer which he desperately wanted to be was so evident in this film.

You can never go wrong with this song/movie with Elvis and Kitty they were amazing singing together. To me this type of movie was so much more Elvis then a lot of his other movies. This film & this scene is my first clear memory of seeing a movie in a theater on the big screen. I was 4 years old & it made an indelible impression on my little mind.

What a start to a movie! The whole soundtrack to, “King Creole”, is amazing! I think this duet should have been longer too. Elvis shows his acting chops, and the music aren’t just non-related interludes. The music has an overall southern, Louisiana, creole feel to it.
