    Campcraft has just added a new bit of kit to the line. It is called the Trekkers pantry and its a great idea .This heavy waxed canvas bag contains 6 screw top tins to carry flour /cornmeal /coffee/ teas /sugar/ oatmeal what ever you want to the field for you cooking needs around a campfire. in the past the old woodsmen often carried flour sugar and other goods in sealed metal tins to keep them fresh while out in the woods. hunting camps often had camp cooks whos job it was to keep the meals rolling in as the hunter or fishermen focused on the game. Many times i enjoy making a meal in the old traditional ways at the woodland camps. these tins and the carry bag should give many yrs of good service. They are a fast easy way to make breads from scratch around the camp fire.

    I can remember years ago when we could buy instant coffee in small tins with pop off lids, much like a paint can, I bet a few of those got used for storage

    Blackie, we had a kit like that in Boy Scout back in the early 70s . Thanks for letting me know that I can still get one. Like I have said many times You Are The Master Woodsman and Bushcrafter .Thanks for passing on the knowledge. Tim L.

    Thanks for putting this up . Been waiting for a well known neighbor of yours to the north to get their version back in inventory. Didn’t think about anyone else making them. Have a good one

    That's great Blackie, looks smaller than the Pathfinder set. Thanks for the heads up and link. 👍

    The old half pound and 1 pound cans were what everyone seem to carry. The tins you have there remind me of the old movie film and reel to reel tape cans you used to get. I have 3 or four that I use. I think they were from Kodak probably 1960s or 70s.

    First time I saw Campcraft had a smaller pantry, it made me think about your old larder video from years ago. I will be getting one, they are a great idea. Edit: I just bought one. Jason makes great stuff, lol.

    Great review Blackie. My Uncle used to have a larder similar to this. My Aunt sewed a canvas bag with draw strings and he used the tins that 100 feet of 35 mm film came in that a friend gave him.

    Great video. Every time I see people carrying tins like those, I keep thinking of candles because they are candle tins at any hobby store, which, yeah, makes sense. You can also add a natural cork seal at the top of the lids or other material so they don't leak in your pack from banging around. Never tried it. I always used actual Tupperware to hold my dry/wet ingredients. Tupperware's plastic containers are made to take abuse and keep closed. Ask my dog. Lol. That being said, I need to get some more candle tins for some fixing wax. I may pick up a couple of 8oz tins to see how they hold up in a pack. Never know... maybe my wife can stop yelling at me for using so many of the Tupperware breakfast bowls.

      One ingredient that I always carry in the field is a complete pancake mix. Works with everything... I keep it in a plastic bag that I use to mix it....so the tin may not work. But self-rising flour with a quick biscuit mix to make field biscuits, free-standing muffins, flatbread, or bread rolls/buns... that may work because you would work it into a dough. Field Doughnuts, add cinnamon sugar.... hmm... open the possibilities.

    That seems useful as heck. There are some interesting stuff on the site and I do like the Ax and Saw sling.

    👍👍👍 .. nice, some good food for thought.
    'Carrying Water' in the Waxed Canvas Bag? I would use an easily-sourced Plastic Bag Liner inside the Canvas Bag. The Plastic Bag will keep the Canvas Bag dry and uncontaminated whilst being reusable and the Canvas Bag will act as the main load carrier and protect the thinner plastic from puncturing. Utilizing the best of both.
    A good share .. thanks. Take care ..

    Now heres a question, especially for things kind of awkward to pack, is there a bush pot or something that set will nest well with, including your citting board modification?

    • @mrwes100
      @mrwes100 3 года назад +2

      The SRO 48oz bushpot is great for nesting tins, I believe it can fit 5 or 6 8 oz tins.

    I had the larger tote bag with the strap, I ordered online and thought it would be perfect for my iron skillets because of its size. I ended up throwing it away, it was so stiff you couldn't close the top to cinch it shut. Tried to work the stiffness out of it, think I even used to pair of pliers and crowbar, probably should have kept it to make a bulletproof vest out of LOL, it was over 60 bucks and horrible craftsmanship. Just don't think I could trust Camp Crap products ever again.
