- Rory Gallagher - Rock Goes To College (1979) - RARE DVD Rip
Rock Goes To College (RGTC) was a BBC series that ran between 1978 and 1981 on British television. A variety of up-coming rock oriented bands were showcased live from small venues and broadcast simultaneously on television and radio during a 40-50 minute live performance (from Wikipedia).
Recorded live at Middlesex Polytechnic, UK, January 27, 1979. - Видеоклипы
Rory Gallagher was a guitarist of The Highest Level, Totally Unique and Unequalled, A True Master of His craft. He could also write All his own songs etc, sing them too, play his guitar in a way that will never be matched or bettered, combine all that with his magical, unrivalled stage presence, charisma and style. And you have A Man, who was a leading and shining light, a pioneer and a true one-off performer, not just in blues/rock but music in general. He graced Us All, with His Presence.👏👏👏👏💚🔥🎸🌟🇨🇮🫶

The One & Only Rory Gallagher, such a beautiful human being. His music is the best, no one could ever come close to him. Rory On Everyone!!❤
The Irish hurricane knocking and rocking that college on its side.....saw Rory 7 times....all great concerts....even had the pleasure of helping him set up his gear.....Rory on!!!
Saw Rory live a few times, no one but no one better live, and believe me I've seen most of the so called greats. But Rory live was the most energy I've ever experienced at a gig,and the man's a genius of a guitarist one of the best ever, just ask Slash,Brian May,even Clapton said it was Rory's playing that got him back in to the blues when he was in his heroin haze. The Stones, Cream and Deep Purple were all after his services, nuff said. The Maestro ☘
The real fans will find it, fantastic 100 %
Rory was/ and still is The Man.. no bullshit, no ego, just pure raw talent and totally down to earth guy..Hail Rory r.i.p.
Yeah sure, my friend. I think he was a good person and a true rocker!! Fuck! Long live Rory and the band forever and ever in the Rock history
The complete guitarist !
Greetings from Arkansas US AMEN the whole band and both drummers that they had and not to mention the first band Taste we all good looking and are legends God bless you and yours
From the concerts footage and interveiws he seemed Very humble shame he never got married and had children
Rory on my freind
the guitar solos on shadowplay sends tingles down my spine. awesome rory RIP
Rory had so much mastery on guitar !
A true gentleman, eloquent both verbally & musically; modest; man of the people; no "star" antics or pretensions. I saw him only once 1972 Xmas-New Year concert , Dublin National Stadium. A terrible, unnecessary loss to Ireland and far beyond. World's greatest guitarist , ever, with a true, rich singing voice. R.I.P. Rory.
I keep coming back to this performance as his best one I’ve heard on RUclips. He is ON FIRE !! If anyone out there can direct me to a better one , please do !!!
Rory greatest of all time
To me this is one of the best Rory Gallagher concerts ever! Rory is playing like an absolute beast!
Absolutely sure. I 'm french and really fan of rory since 11yer old and i ve see lot of concert of him in france, but this tour 79 is one of the five best rock concert of my life. Thank you, i m not all alone whith that feeling. God bless rory.
I have to agree, many of the songs were unfamiliar to me. Also, his playing was the rawest and was brutal on the guitar and rarely if ever breaks a string despite going to stretching them to the max and beyond. Saw him in 71 or 72 ( I was so blown away on THC) Rory came on and took to another dimension. Canned Heat, Freddy King, Savoy Brown also were on the bill so Rory was in good company. One of the most loving n delightful personality's of any true star.
A monster of a player, and an inspirational, and humble soul
Jesus Gallagher doesn't make the guitar cry or sing, he makes it play
Rory went to college to teach all the guitarist's out there how to play the guitar .all the other so called guitarist's are still at tafe . Rory earned his honors degree . To me it was truly a honor to see him live. So honor sir rory gallagher and his band and his music forever. Rory u will never be forgotten u will always be remembered .r.i.p.
Whoever disliked this has absolutely no taste in music.
Mistertbones Ther's always a couple of twits out there.
Justin Beiber fans ??? There are pricks that just go round disliking stuff cos they are boring and have nothing better to do with their sad lives.
Brilliant what a band
pun intended
I like what you did there. 😉
Love Rory 🎉 Im a guitar player myself, love Rory’s humility and energy.
That was what it was back in our day, we go to college gigs to see Rory and his boys and get the education to last us a life time from this MASTER, been in his classroom was the very best, we came away knowing things which we have used all through our lives.
When you have some spare time click on to RUclips and watch this human hurricane in action, The Master Musician Rory Gallagher and his boys going to town at full speed. There never was/is and never will be anyone like the great Rory.
To think of all those pioneers we have seen, us old people, fantastic.
Fantastic. Probably one of the greatest guitarists of all time... seen him in the mid 70s!!! Memorable night...
This is easily one of the best Rory concert ever.
Rory not only a brilliant guitarist but got the voice to back it up , what a great talent this man had
So very humble and quiet man , left us to quickly farewell Rory you were the best smile on
🙌 indeed,a great song writer too.
What I like about this recording is that the camera people focused on Rory's face. His expressions fascinate me and endear him to me.
A video named " pistol slappers blues" on Roryweb2011 channel also shows us these fascinating expressions he had and his beauty !
Rory loved playing, he had a great band, the audience felt Rory's sense of love. This is a recipe for videos that I can watch forever. I am reminded of Rory when I watch Susan Tedeschi interact with the audience. She chose a great role model.
I saw him on the '79 tour at a small club in St.Louis, it was an amazing show, one of the best I have seen. He always gave all he had on stage, a great showman.
The more I find videos like this the more I think he was quite possibly the greatest guitarist ever - totally at one with the instrument, able to switch from one playing style to another seamlessly and effortlessly, and from what I hear a genuinely decent humble bloke too. Only wish I'd been around to see him play live. Thanks for uploading, this is what youtube was made for!
Doesn't matter what version of this song you hear, they're all good. Great improviser Mr G.
Rory you were a god. RIP to one of THE greatest ever.
The most beautiful guitar in the world forever!
The best guitarist and show man that ever lived! And an incredible human being and could play any instrument! R.I.P
Please remember Rory played his music right through punk,New wave and I can Promise you EVERYONE still turned out and loved and supported him.A total legend.
yep even the IRA and the UDA.
Rory wrote Brute force & Ignorance about the Punk scene though i don't know if he actually saw the band he sings about which may have been the sex Pistols , he was so open minded even he really never said anything bad about what was some of the worst music rock had to offer. He must have found it amusing in some odd way. Saw him several times in the 70s & lord have mercy he was one of the best players ever. 🎸🔥
@@paullevine1813 read somewhere that him and Donal went to the Sex Pistols last show during a US tour
Interesting ! Did not know that. When I read the lyrics , it immediately resonated with me as the perfect response to a campaign stop by you know who , our once and future king !!🤮 Do you feel me ??

Rory Gallagher is the most underrated guitarist of all time. Even Jimi Hendricks called Rory the greatest guitar player of all time.
Greatest living...
Hardly underrated if Hendrix said he was the greatest. Jeeze!
"Hendrix" - you've been smoking too much.
It is rumoured that Hendrix once was asked: "How does it feel being the greatest guitarist in the world ?" He replied: "I have no idea, but please ask Rory Gallagher..."
@@dorothythelabskeleton80 , there is no proof of the Hendrix "quote". But Rory was great!
Rory at his very best, as always. His passing saddens me very time I listen to Rory, which is every day
Saw Rory many times in Dublin in the 70's. He delivered the goods every time and so gracious to his audience...A true Gentleman.
greetings from the great state of Texas USA would love to go to Ireland one day I've been to England was a little girl during this time. We're all living in the south east of the northeast of the United States which is my opinion the best part of the United States as far as people food and culture and scenery landscape this band was phenomenal let's not forget Rod DFI like this drummer too but I prefer Rod Dee and the keyboardist Sarah phenomenal Lou Martin God bless and rest May their souls rest in peace and not to mention Gerry McAvoy these people are legends that I don't understand at all why they're not have been inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame you all if you're in Ireland and England need to vote for this van when it comes to this coming fall virgin of the to vote for 2020 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Rory Gallagher was gorgeous drop dead the whole band was I'd really also don't understand why he never got married and had children may God bless you and yours unbelievable Talent the whole band forget about it let's not forget the rest of the band fabulous musicians classic
@@anaparada7219 What a lovely comment.I saw Rory very close to this time at Wolverhampton. He was jaw dropping.
@@alancanham2956 hello from wales man. You lucky man
I am so jealous
I saw Rory in New Zealand 1975 and
1982
Fuck he was fantastic
I envy you never got to see RORY live my loss RIP RORY XXX MARGO ♥️♥️♥️
What is totally amazing to me is the foresight of the cameraman. The footage of Rory available today for anyone who wants to see the real deal is nothing short of phenomenal. It must have been the same dude throughout because the style is consistent. The same guy should have shot Johnny, Buddy, Hendrix, SRV, Muddy, BB, Albert, Freddy, and a multitude of others.... What a library we would have eh? Hat's off to whoever filmed Rory. His work is phenomenal. Thank you DUDE!!
That's so true. It always amazes me how much Rory footage there is out there (and its high quality), considering that he was never one for self-promotion and was never commercially successful in the sense of being played on radio etc. I'm so grateful for the treasure trove of videos that we have!
I always wondered why there are so many. He’s just that good and people who video just had to do it! Especially because he was so good live. And photogenic as hell!
@@cynthiamarston2208 Totally. Incredible performer and absolutely beautiful.
In this footage there are at least 3 different cameras, (that was my job for 17 years). How can you tell it's the same dude??
Amen!!!
TBH, this has got to be one of Rory's best ever performances. Pure class, what a fantastic talented man. Photo Finish is my favourite album.
Incredible concert. Rory at his best & his bass player and drummer, Awesome! Rory R.I.P.
Ted was also the drummer with another fantastic band of that period …The Sensational Alex Harvey Band.
@@PJ-jz5fm Wow, will have to check them out. Thanks!
Happy Birthday, Rory. You will forever have my thanks.
Thank God for RUclips ! Finding Rory music in the US used to be difficult ! Simply the greatest !
alarmfannh i know i never liked the tube but after finding Rory on it my kids cant get me of it Margo ,
Fan freaking tastic! Rory and team tearing it up proper. That's rock n roll!
It’s wearing out my index finger pushing thumbs up to soooo many comments who know in their soul and groin Rory was peerless
My blues rock and acoustic blues guitar hero
I’d say demi-god but Rory was so humble and modest - diametrical opposite of his searing performance - which I had the privilege and joy to see, hear and feel here in New Zealand 1974 and 1982
I was at this concert and many others up to 1986 and consider this as one of if not his best. This was the only time the propaganda machine called the UK’s BBC ( Brussels Broadcasting Company) got it right with its sound quality and sharp video of the best artist of his time. The one and only MR Rory Gallagher and the best Power trio of its time .Recorded between 1978 - 1981.
The Boogie Woogie Man. The man from Company B & R.. A man blessed with immense talent. A man of true grit and great kindness, His like was never seen before and possibly will never will be seen again. The one and only, the master, the very brilliant Rory Gallagher. He had the power to lift the roof of a building during his concerts. Another one of Rory's gigs I attended with several of my brothers,, Rory the man put a power charge through the crowd and lifted people spirits high with his very greatest skills as player of the very highest standing, a brilliant gig delivered by the man
Raw ROCK. Raw Talent. Grossly underrated/overlooked. Thank you Rory.
Hey Rory, thank you for the many concerts I have had the pleasure of watching you and your band in and am still rocking it at 60+ thank you for the great memories ,sorely missed but never forgotten.
THE BEST ! LEGEND OF BLUES GUITAR ! 🎸🎤🔥🔥
Just perfect! Amazing Rory!
Rory played for people who enjoyed his playing , he loved to entertain.
He was just on fire this night. I saw Rory a total of 5 times here in Chicago. .....the boys in the band gonna play all night if they could have their way........
lucky to have seen Rory mamy times, what a geniune gentleman. miss him. RORY FOREVER
Ευχαριστώ παρά παρά παρά... ζέσεις. Και χερω. Στα Αγγλικά τώρα. As a Scot, I so appreciate you posting this. Wow. I watched it live on broadcast and was blown away then. Saw him only once actually live at a gig. Just brilliant. A life force.
Fantastic this is! That version of "Fuel to the fire" is absolutely breathtaking.
This band was great!!!
Rory's guitar work on this version of "Shadowplay" is so insanely over the top, I can't imagine any other guitarist even approaching this level.
I was at this concert in January 1979 on a freezing cold evening in Hendon, London. Rory at his best!
The beauty of the guy was that he never came out of second gear, always plenty left in the locker.
The best ever
Guitarra, voz e ouvido. Artista. O melhor!!
Such a damn shame this video has so little views. Seriously, wtf? The world is missing out. Rory, what a man!! Every single song, from start to finsih, he gives it his 10000000000%!!
Just pure class
💯%
Totally man, I've tried bringing him to peoples attention but people are just plain thick.
@@drummingearth5326 Same here. It is their loss. We tried. I'm proud to be one of Rory's people. ☘🇮🇪🎸
@@drummingearth5326 You either get Rory or you don't. I got into Rory Gallagher with the Photo Finish album and once I saw him at Nags Head North in 85 I was a Rory fanatic. Saw him again in 91 at the El Mocombo in Toronto. Pure joy. He was a blues purist the likes I have never seen before or since. RIP Rory
Rory is a way of life... Miss my guide... Rory !!!
Once I start listening it's hard to stop. I'm on a daily dose.... visual or audio
Same here ... I have to watch Rory Gallagher's video on stage before sleep no matter what
Forgot what an absolute legend he was. This is fantastic.
10 minutes to 12 Minutes. This guy is very nice and he plays his heart to those kids. I just love him. I saved this to my top shelf picks which I’m trying to keep down to 15 including a few musicians.
1. 2. 3. 4....... you’ve got this!
Thank you. Just to be in possession of such perfection. Thank you. God bless you. Rory ruled!!
Hey Giannis, just found this. Absolute perfection. Rory at his comfort level> Saw him many times. What a performer. His guitar was tied directly to his heart.............
GREATEST EVER EVER EVER !! RORY RULES! 🎸💚👑💞☘️
What cracks me up is that bushy haired kid in the front row, I've seen him in the front row of so many Rory concerts! What a lucky devil :D
I know the kid you mean I think it's the one that claps his hands and says yeah!! At the end of the karassell video or could be one of the songs
probably a grand father by now and the bushy hair just a distant memory :)
still a lucky devil though..thanks for sharing))
Awesome gig, my first real rock gig, haven't watched it through for 40 years
Watch the Montreux performance of this song too, epic
beyond talented he just feels it, magic with a guitar. Singer songwriter guitar player like no other, Rory is at another level.
Can't stop watching this.
That's been the case with me as well. Since I first heard this mans music many years ago I've never tired of it.
Extraordinary musician with full of emotion on his guitar riffs!
Bleesed to have seen Rory many times 70s 80s,was always a barnstorming show,a true legend in my mind, thanks for the music sir.

Hello from Wales UK are you in Ireland ? Love Rory also and it's good to see others who feel the same
Brilliant concert. Loved it. Thanks a million for posting this. Rory forever.
Ted McKenna, rest in peace. (1950 -2019.)
Sad to hear this. So many rock artists from the 60s and 70s leaving us...especially the ones who are not in the immediate stage light.
An awesome bassist, and sure a good dude
@@johnblackwell2065 A total powerhouse on bass !

Ted mckenna s a great drummer who after his rory Gallagher trio years went on to play with Michael schenker group, and last gigs he was part of were with msg after sort of two decades. A really talented bloke. His rory trio era was spectacular too. Miss him.
He moves the soul and melts the heart. Thankyou💓🙏
Linda, you said it perfectly. Thank you.
So much loyality towards passion for music and audiences .. Rory always gave more than 200% genuinely .
I was there, just down the road from where I lived at the time. For me, this was it! No internet then so Melody Maker to keep in touch of where the bands were playing.
I saw Rory on this tour in Manchester about a month before this was filmed. Absolutely fabulous!
That is a helluva rollercoaster 44 mins. Goes through every emotion imaginable. Extraordinary. They don't make them like Rory anymore, sadly.
Unbelievable!!!!! Long live Rory!!!!
nobody could touch this guy. Proficient!
I praise the lord...could see Rory play for so many times...
Perfect connection with the audience....a beloved artist 💋a beautiful man 💋💋💋💋
Brilliant video. Rory on top form here, doing stuff from what is in my opinion his best album, Photo Finish. He is up there with the guitar greats.
Basic no frills music cant beat it you cant beat it .........never will RIP MR GALLAGHER
Rory-the king of high horsepower blues.
The Real Guitar/Blues God...Nobody...Nobody Comes Closer...

This clip had only just appeared (many of Rory's blocked here lately), a great performance from the master, thank you.
Linda Jones why would they block Rory. Beats me, Margo,
He is just so beautiful in every way! The ease with which he plays all those riffs and his childlike happy smile!
Absolutely. He melts the heart💓
This is music for the soul.. Rory will never die because of what he gave when to us through his heart and soul.. One word, "eternity"!!!!
Rory will always be with us through the music he gave .. I've watched Rory live on many websites and I'm just mesmerized.. Why Rory didn't get the recognition in America is beyond myself.. I have my opinions but, I think that I'll keep it to myself because I don't want to unleash my" fury"..
Nice sound quality. They are on fire on this one.
fuel to the fire! absolutely superb
