      Of his own admission, Draymond is at his best when there is a belief that they have a shot at being a winner. Things do not go well when the team is not good. So much of his skill is a function of mental engagement. He loses interest when the team is not in the hunt. Its been two seasons since they had a real squad and shot. It good to see him accepting the lower minutes so he doesn't wear down so far and tweaked offense that doesn't always run through him. But in some of his podcasts he was mentioning the need to change how they play so, I think he knows what they need to win. And defensively he is every bit the superstar Curry is offensively but, most people do not pay attention to defense. They have some defensive trap schemes they are running with him, Payton II and Podzemski this year that are elite.

    that's probably why the Warriors never really invest in a 7 footer, or height.
    In the modern nba, lateral quickness is more desirable and effective on defense than shot blocking. You want to cut off the driving lane and cause mid range jumpers rather than trying to block shots at the rim.

      And the lack of the real big, real center has cost them numerous times, especially in recent seasons
      Almost all their championship runs they have real bigs... JaVale McGee/Festus Ezeli, and a few others I am forgetting
      It matters, as shown here Dray can hold his own at the 5 but can struggle with severe size mismatches and get into foul trouble. Dray's versatility can offset a lot of that but even so. Also usually they have had other versatile big wings + active smalls to help too. GP2, Wiggins, Iguodala back then, etc
      And at the end of the day most things come back to the rim, the paint even now in this 3-ball era is probably still the most important thing to protect. Why do you think Gobert has 4 DHPOYs (besides regular szn performance) or Wemby about to rule this generation? come on now

    The thing is with Draymond, the triple single narrative, most of the stuff he does isnt on the stuff sheet. Most of his passes before the basket is the assist that turns into an assist because he assess the situation so well, his connection to curry is almost symbiotic, he knows where Steph would be before Steph even gets there, hes a defensive menace, and can mess up the other players mentally.

    I had a conversation about Klay and Draymond 4 years ago with a friend of mine. I was defending Draymond being much more indispensable compared to Klay. My argument was that Klay might have been one of the if not THE best 3&D player but his skillset can be replicated to an acceptable level. While Hield isn't close to being as good a defender, he definitely is as good a shooter. Whereas Draymond's skillset is almost impossible to replicate. Maybe Bam is the closest player I can think of.

    You have to bring up there is a difference between good defense and lack of offensive player skill. This is a Hella casual analysis. He doesn’t take number one assignments. And when he was younger, Klay Thompson took the number one assignment. This video is a good showcase of lack of offensive players skill while he roams. This is a good defense. What his answer for Jokić? What’s his answer for current Jaylen Brown? Damn near anybody can guard anybody if you only need them to guard for a few moments. Love your content, but you gotta be able to see through the weeds. If you look back through these highlights, it’s a bunch of non-scorers being guarded and or hacked.

Even when Bogut left, Warriors kept that defensive mentality with them. But all the casuals want to see is another Steph 3. Whenever they see Green, they think he's just there to kick it out to Curry on the offensive end and that's all he's needed for.

    • @cwj_721
      @cwj_721 Месяц назад

      easily draymond. wemby is just not dialed in very much at all on defense. out of position a lot of times, not the quickest to rotate. in a few years wemby will probably be better

    • @rjnaive4825
      @rjnaive4825 Месяц назад

      The reason why Wemby finished 2nd in DPOY last year was because of his length - shot blocking, which is pretty much expected out of him, but other than that, Draymond is still better. The ultimate defensive anchor!

    God I think it's downright criminal that in the entire time Draymond has played in the NBA, he's only received ONE defensive player of the year award ever. I feel like he's more than capable of winning 3-4 before retiring yet I think he's always been robbed or never even mentioned in DPOY talks year after year except for his single award year.

    You forgot to mention that one of the things that make Draymond a good defender is that he keeps fouling opponents on most possessions but officials do not call these fouls because of his constant objections and the fact that he plays for a dynasty.
    To say that Draymond "make reads better than everybody" made me lose any respect I had for you.
    I can't see anything extraordinary in any of the footage in this video.
    You need to look up the word "smother" in the dictionary. If it has the meaning you are using here, then I can smother KD's shots.
