The Quest 3 should not even be mentioned in the same breath as the PSVR2-PS5 VR gaming system, the article is just another PSVR2 hit job by a Meta influencer, they literally get paid to print negative BS while telling the reader not to buy a PSVR2 and choose the Quest 3 instead but they do not mention the massive drawback of the Quest 3 being that its powered by a mobile phone processor with just 2.4 tflops of computing power available for games, the PSVR2 in standard mode has over 10.3 tflops of processing power available but when the devs utilise the DFR technology inside the PSVR2 it supercharges the games by a factor of 3.6x and makes the PS5 do things only a high end PCVR system can do, the Quest 3 has to be plugged into a high end PCVR system to compete with the PSVR2, so they are not comparable the PSVR2 is a PCVR competitor not a Quest 3 competitor.

Lol the quest 3 destroyed th psvr2 and that's just a fact. It has better games and better tech. I agree with you that the psvr2 has better lenses and better haptic feedback but that means nothing compared to the tech that the quest 3 is offering.

But they would have had development kits long before it launched, and could be developing games even before they received development kits. If Sony had planned to support PSVR 2 with more first-party games, those games would've already been in development for years before the headset was released, like Horizon Call of the Mountain was.
Maybe they had more games in development but they were cancelled. Or maybe some (allegedly 2 at least) are still in development and just not ready. But Sony not breathing a word about future first-party support for PSVR 2 in the nearly 1.5 years since launch is a bad look. If the games aren't ready to announce that's fine, but Sony has made general statements about their future games output before (like they publicly said they had 10 live-service games in development at one point, and 28 first-party games with nearly half being sequels). They could make similarly vague statements about PSVR 2. Just publicly saying "we have more first-party PSVR 2 games in development" would be a huge improvement. Hell, they could talk about how they're partnering with indie and third-party studios to finance VR development and ports to their headset.
But they say nothing. It doesn't exactly fill the average consumer with confidence that Sony is supporting the PSVR 2.

      @GreyMatterShades 2 месяца назад

@@Alien_isolationist I've seen this in some of your other posts. Just FYI, first party means a game was developed by an internal studio wholly owned by the platform holder (in this case, Sony). Horizon and GT7 are first-party, and they're the only first-party games on PSVR 2.
Second party means a development arrangement with an external developer to make a game that's permanently exclusive for that platform. Firewall Ultra was definitely second-party because while First Contact Entertainment wasn't owned by Sony, Sony does own the Firewall IP (as per the publishing agreement for Firewall Zero Hour). It's the only PSVR 2 game that we can be sure is second-party.
Synapse might have been second party, but probably not. It was developed by nDreams (not owned by Sony), but we don't know whether Sony or nDreams owns the IP (I'd bet on nDreams), and we don't know if it'll be permanently exclusive or timed (like nDreams' previous game Fracked, which was ported to PC after a year), so it could be second-party but is most likely third-party.
Switchback could be second-party, but it's part of a franchise (The Dark Pictures) which is owned by Supermassive Games (the developers), so I doubt it. That said, it uses PSVR 2 features which are uncommon on other platforms, making ports less likely. That doesn't make it second-party though, as explained below.
Third party games are titles developed by external developers where the IP is owned by someone other than the platform holder (usually the developer or publisher). They may or may not be exclusive to one platform, either temporarily by contract, or just because the developer/publisher chooses not to bring them to another platform. The important thing is that they are not bound to be permanently exclusive via contract or IP ownership.
RE4 Remake and RE Village are definitely third-party. Capcom made them and owns the IP. Sony paid for Capcom to develop the VR mode, probably in exchange for 1 year of exclusivity. These were the terms of the RE7 VR deal for PSVR 1, which was revealed when someone hacked Capcom and leaked a bunch of stuff. However it's currently unlikely that Capcom would port them to another platform, as they don't do PC VR and the Quest 3 couldn't handle them. But they're still third-party. If Valve released a powerful and popular standalone headset next year, Capcom would probably be free to port RE Village and/or RE4 Remake to it.
Hope this clears up what constitutes first, second, and third party games.

  • @shpearg
    @shpearg 2 месяца назад +9

When you consider how many studios Sony have, the fact that there are 2 INTERNAL VR games in the works is pretty amazing. We know they're far more interested in utilising 3rd parties to work on their IP for VR - it's a specialist field, after all. Doesn't help that Meta has hoovered up (and also shut down) huge swathes of the VR industry in recent times. Some of the best Sony IP on the original PSVR was developed by partner studios. Whole article is filled to the brim with bias and poor assumptions.

I really hope the sale helped move a lot of headsets. That could drive home to Sony that the price is a problem and they need to permanently lower it ASAP.
Honestly though I'm not sure if sales or price cuts are enough right now, as Sony has let this "PSVR 2 is dead" narrative proliferate unchecked since launch. They basically let its fans try to defend it, and honestly they aren't giving us much first-party ammunition. They need to make some sort of public statement about their current and continued support for the headset to instill consumer confidence. That will make a sale/price cut much more effective at selling headsets. After all, $450 is still a lot for an accessory that most people think is "dead."

They certainly could have done more. I saw no advertising, no demonstrations (admittedly the covid pandemic hadn't officially ended at launch) and no promotion at all outside of online media with dedicated VR coverage. When you have this headset sitting in the "accessory" section for $150 more than the console, it's not going to be an impulse buy for most PS5 owners. Even just a stand with all the supported titles would have helped a lot.
That said, PCVR is still stuck at about 2% of steam users (although the number of Steam users continues to grow), so it's not like VR has been a massive growth market.

I got into the PSVR2 becasue I got sick of a VR market that is dominated with basically android VR mobile apps. There is a point when some of us realize we want more than what a mobile processor based quest product can deliver. I am happy with my PSVR2 and have gotten value out of it. I am excited about using my PSVR2 with my gaming rig. I only give it a bit of time before game moders figure out how to get the features of the PCVR2 to work with PCVR.

As I wrote elsewhere, maybe I live in my own little bubble, but I’ve been using the PSVR2 a lot since it came out, and with great satisfaction. As a VR enthusiast, it would be unthinkable for me not to have the Sony platform, in addition to PCVR with a displayport headset (Reverb G2, and hopefully Pimax Crystal in the future), and secondarily the Quest 3 in PC streaming or standalone mode.
Ok, we didn't have exclusive titles after launch, but in my opinion, even playing the same game on the Quest 3 standalone vs. Psvr2 is a no-match: the experience on Psvr2 is on another level completely, due to the much more refined graphics, the haptics, and the amazing blacks, colors, and highlights of the Oled HDR panel. Among the latest games I played, I can cite Runner, Song in the Smoke, Zombieland, Border Bots and even Ghostbusters.
I completed Genotype last week, and I can assure you that it's a completely different experience on the PSVR2, from a visual and haptic standpoint,
compared to that on the Quest 3 standalone. Way, way more satisfying. And then you have amazing, top-notch third-party experiences like Cyube, No Man's Sky, Legendary Tales,
and Madison that run incredibly well on the PS5, due to the dynamic-foveated rendering, to the point that you have to use, at least, a RTX 3090 if you want to reach the same
visual level on PC (I tried this myself, of course). And even then, you don't get the amazing colors and blacks the PSVR2 has.
I’ve been following this kind of news since before the headset was released, and I’m convinced that such articles, often based on fluff and speculation, have done much more damage to the PSVR2 than Sony's evident lack of interest (we all agree on Sony's faults). I mean, where is the official statement from Sony that they'll cease any kind of PSVR2 support? And even if this is proven to be true, to what extent should this change the future game schedule? To my knowledge, we haven't seen a single Sony title since Horizon and, to some extent, Gt7. All the other great PSVR2 titles are third-party ones and porting. And speaking of those, the are still A LOT of potentially great games coming for PSVR2. More than 20, in 2024 alone.
I don't know, but seeing the content and frequency of these news pieces, it almost seems like someone outside of Sony is intentionally trying to undermine the PSVR2,
way more than its real demerits. Moreover, they don’t realize (or at least I hope they don’t, because otherwise it would be even worse) that they are undermining the entire VR industry.
Lastly, I'm sorry to say but some content creators are having a part in this too. I'm seeing some videos where they are stating "PSVR2 is dead, that's a fact", without any real proof, like it won't work or be supported from anyone, starting tomorrow. The tone in some of them is -unreal-, to say the least, and has gone out of hands.
It's the times we live in: hate/doom culture at its peak.

  • @corey_massey

I have said this before and will repeat it here....The VR space is too small for the platform war that takes place in flat screen gaming! Lets be honest here....VR in general doesn't get many, if any, triple A VR games...most games are smaller budget, smaller teams, indie developed games. And the VR community has taken this larger industry issue with VR and thrown it at the PSVR2 and Sony's feet and said this is your fault. At thier peak...Sony had 2 studios that was known for having made VR games....Firesprite and London Studio. Every other Sony studio has historically been a flat screen developer and maybe have dabbled in the VR Space but we would certainly not consider them VR devlopers, yet the expectation for PSVR2 has been that Sony would be the paragon of triple A VR games. I've never understood this expectation because it seems more hope than rooted in anything factual. We hoped PSVR2 might usher in Triple A VR games..... but that hope was never Sony's intentions with VR. Sony.....like Metaquest....is intent on creating a platform for people who want VR and don't want to get another platform to get it. What we have seen of the game media and the social media gaming community is that they have allowed Metaquest to be a platform for VR but Sony and PSVR2 has had to be the gold standard for triple A VR games and anything short of that is considered failure.
If you were to ask any Metaquest user to name the Metaquest 1st party triple A games the way we have expected Sony to lead the charge for Triple A VR games you would end up with a very short list about as long as the PSVR2 list....and the kicker....as pointed out here in this video.....the biggest games coming to the Metaquest are games that are also on PSVR2 . This attempt to downplay PSVR2 while simultaneously propping up Metaquest does nothing to address the issue however, regardless of platform, regardless of which headset you prefer, or whose ecosystem you are in....the simple fact remains....the VR space is not the place for platform war when the majority of games are on both systems and both have extemely thin 1st party VR game support. Rather than fighting for the few supporters on either side to go in one direction or the other...the VR community should be focused on becoming a space that is more conducive to more big games coming to the medium, because at this rate we are gonna end up with two communities that are still not getting the major Triple A games that we hoped for.

But, my follow up question was... why don't they drop it and where is PS5 Pro? Random guy told me that the supply chain is tied up in more profitable AI tech and Chinese trade issues. Jim Ryan was betting on gaming services primarily, which was untenable once the pandemic ended. So... Playstation is basically rudderless right now. Maybe VR is a market? Maybe PS Portal? Yes GT7 is astonishing but that alone is not enough for a product that costs more than a PS5. I have both a PSVR2 and a Quest 3, and I enjoy using both of them (I find the PSVR2 more comfortable to wear), when I have time to enjoy VR at all.
But I must say, most of these comments sound like their writers are the same sort of fanbois that the Android Authority writer proved to be. The 8th Grade called, folks--and it wants its juvenile attempts at "sophisticated" comebacks back.
The unfortunate reality is, Sony is not giving as much energy to VR as it first appeared they would, and it shows in the lack of larger new games that are available. Like Jammy, I hope that time will show that they, or at least some of the independent developers who seem to enjoy creating for PSVR2 will change that in the near future... but I'll have to see it before I get as excited about my PSVR2 headset as I was when I first got it.
Now, with THAT said, I've also gotta say that the article writer's conclusion was just ridiculous. It smacked of such pure, unadulterated fanboism that it sounded like maybe Meta paid him to make to say what he said, and he wasn't exactly smooth about it, either.
As Jammy pointed out, lack of foveated rendering and HDR or not, a roughly $500 PCVR headset that can work thorugh at least a version of Displayport, and which does not require owning a PS5 to run, has tremendous potential to succeed with both PCVR players and with simmer--enough so, that I'll believe that the PSVR2 is a "failure" when I see it.
Not listen to a writer whose Quest 3 bias practically sticks out in lumps.

2 first party titles with VR support in development is not 0 first party titles with VR support in development. The actual bits of insider information mentioned in the article indicate that Sony has reduced but not stopped its spending on VR. But the author really wants to hype that up to becoming complete abandonment and PSVR2 is dead. But those parts are just his own speculation or outright misrepresentation like you say.
I actually think this article is good news because I was under the impression Sony had 0 first party VR titles in development and was relying on 3rd party software alone.
My take on it remains that Sony is clearly not strongly supporting VR but also not leaving it either. I think they're running a conservative strategy of keeping their toes dipped into it so they're developing their experience with the technology and not risking being left behind, but waiting for the right market conditions before they will push. Sony appears to be letting Meta burn buckets of money trying to establish momentum in VR adoption while they're saving their money and staying poised to ride the wave when it comes.

I do worry about their conservative strategy though. Meta is trying to pull the tech in a different direction than Sony would, and if they're allowed to set the trend and establish the tech in the mainstream, they could be doing it in a way where Sony couldn't compete. If they're able to get their metaverse established, Sony could have a really hard time drawing people away from it.

More PSVR2 hate, totally agree with point at 11:00, yea all those games are coming to PSVR2. And Im sure they won't be as shite as the Quest versions. I have Quest 3 and PSVR2 and I find Quest games quite casual, or an attempt to be something bigger but feel held back by the lack of processing power of the headset, Asgard's Wrath 2 for example. I think articles like this are damaging to PSVR2. But it seems to make sense developers make games for all 3 platforms (PSVR2, Quest and PCVR) like behemoth is . The VR market is so much smaller than flat screen. Make it the same way a game releases on PS and Xbox. Also I think hybrid games are a way forward, like RE4.
The reality of it is Meta almost killed PCVR with Quest, PSVR2 IMO was hope to get back to more immersive VR for the masses, with over 60 million PS5's out there it looked that way with early releases like GT7, Horizon COTM and No mans sky. Also seeing how much better games were on PSVR2 like Moss, Saints & Sinners, Red matter 2, Star Wars TFTGE, Arizona sunshine 2 than the quest versions. I would like to imagine what it would have been without Quest, PCVR being too expensive for the masses, then PSVR2 coming along, where people are not used to the subsidised princes of meta. I think it would of been much more successful. I also feel alot of people are jumping on the PSVR2 hate wagon without really trying it.

"No PCVR games support these features" is just dead wrong when it comes to eyetracking and dynamic foveated rendering. Which I would say is the most important feature, since it reduces the required specs for a VR PC at the bottom end and also stretches the performance envelope for high end PCs. Why do PSVR channels keep repeating this? Even if you don't have a PCVR headset, just google which games support Dynamic Foveated Rendering. DCS, Pavlov, Bonelab, Skyrim, Phasmophobia, MSFS, iRacing, Assetto Corsa Competizione to name a few. Of course it's PCVR, so it's rarely a "plug and play" console style implementation, but nothing that should be beyond the capabilities of any PC gamer that's ever used a mod.

There is no real compelling reason to buy PSVR and quite frankly dismissing studio closures or downsizing, because they currently are not making one is a mistake. Sony currently across the board is not doing well and they are not going to prioritise VR over standard games.
Two questions I have regarding the PC adapter:
    1. Are they trying to clear stock using pc vr users?
    2. Are they saying we are passing off VR to the PC space and developers can port games to PSVR, or just stick to the PCVR market as PSVR headset users will have access to that?

Sure, it's fun to dream about, but it's never going to happen. Sony literally can't afford to pay Rockstar enough to make this worthwhile for Rockstar. GTA 5 earned more than the GDP of some countries. Rockstar's development efforts would be more profitably put toward making more content for their flat audience to pay for rather than a VR mode.
It would sell headsets for sure, but Rockstar doesn't care about that, they care about profit.

I think Sony is just pumping their brakes till more units sell . Games will still come but people have been expecting way too much from Sony on this since before launch . Even the pc adapter I think was planned for a while and took a minute to work out the details , not a sign of giving up imo but people always wanna predict rather then work off the facts we have .

I also don't think they're 100% giving up, but it's not going to sell more units unless Sony pushes it. They've let the "PSVR 2 is dead" narrative thrive unchecked for way too long. Even a price cut might not be enough to move the needle if the public thinks they're done supporting it.
And considering games take 2-5 years to make, it would take a long time for Sony to ramp up support if it DOES start moving units. Honestly 2 first-party games is 2 more than I thought they were making.

@@GreyMatterShades yea , I feel ya but Sony was never going to do what some of the VR community keep being told over and over is coming with zero evidence to support their claim . Sony isn’t the one that made people think a bunch of AAA games were coming , that would be the gaming community that barely understands what’s happening …. but sure as hell control part of the narrative by spewing guesses online is mass.
Hate to see it but VR gaming is starting to go the way of regular gaming with a bunch of negative arm chair experts that barely even half research and just go off of how they feel the companies should move forward …. Instead of merely paying attention to what the companies say and do and just go off of facts.
I think they should be much happier with the ports they are getting from meta …… but noooooo lol most Psvr only people crap on meta and their games constantly , but imagine how the Psvr 2 would be doing without those ports ???
We are all in this together , rivalry between headsets is dumb . I have quest , pcvr , and will be getting Psvr 2 eventually but every time I hear Psvr 2 only or pcvr only people say the whole “ meta is holding back VR “ I laugh but makes me frustrated because we have morons IN VR working against its progress all because they want their platform to be the “ best “ ..
The tech and the games are advancing just fine … VR’s biggest issue is people that don’t understand it and even worse is the people IN VR that THINK they understand what’s happening .
Psvr2 is gonna take some hits on the way but IF the people playing can figure out to appreciate what they have instead of bitch about what they want maybe they can learn to ignore the negative articles like Sony and Meta have been for years .

@@GhostShot-mk9tq Yeah some people definitely had unrealistic expectations, but Sony has also done a poor job of controlling the message.
And some of those expectations came from credible leaks about Sony exploring a hybrid strategy (the same leaks included 100% accurate specs for the headset around 6 months before they were publicly announced). But some people jumped from that leak to the hope/assumption that every first-party game would have VR support.
As for the Meta stuff, I think it's fair to say they're a double edged sword for VR. They're investing WAY more than anyone else, which is good. However they've also bought up some great VR studios who were doing really high-end PC VR stuff and forced them onto mobile hardware. And that hardware is definitely still holding some games/teams back. But it's also expanding the VR market and making it easier to get new people into VR. It's complicated.
I agree though, there are a lot of people who don't understand market realities, or the nature of game development, or especially the tradeoffs of hardware. God the number of times I've heard people say something like "PSVR 2 should've had pancake lenses and Micro-OLED screens and been standalone/wireless, and COST LESS" ...smfh. Or "Sony should just pay Rockstar to port GTA6 to VR" as if a) that port was even fucking possible, and b) Sony could even afford to pay enough to make it worth their while.
At the end of the day though, I can understand people being upset/disappointed with Sony's support (or lack thereof) of PSVR 2. Yes there's lots of great games on it, but when a company like Sony launches hardware, you should at least be able to count on two waves of first-party software for the thing.

@@GreyMatterShades I think people try to compare with meta too much . One thing that is true for all other companies , trying to match or outspend meta in VR development is a ridiculous notion. In fact it makes more sense if meta is willing to set billions on fire annually AND let a lot of those games travel to Sony …… well , it is just logical for them to sit back and let meta most of the heavy lifting here .
Even Apple isn’t trying to compete with meta yet . Makes no sense for ANY of these companies to compete in a tech that is damn near too cursed to make it to mass acceptance for DECADES.
The tech has to be accepted by enough people that VR is a part of our lives and THEN they can compete … until then ANY negativity effects ALL of VR and sets everyone back .
Meta is the cheapest way into VR …. sooo the majority in VR are on quest . If they find their way into the VR community, they have to put up with a lot of the community bashing the device they just bought and calling the games they have access to crap ……………………
This is the dumbest thing the VR community does to its own numbers . The VR community literally does most complaining directed at the one company willing to LOSE money in the billions annually until VR makes it , but the VR community cannot see past their own personal stuff to realize that half the library HAS to be ready for a VR virgin because we are growing the community everyday .

@@GhostShot-mk9tq The problem is, whether it's fair or not or whether Sony wants to or not, they ARE competing with Meta. People are deciding whether to buy a Quest 3 or PSVR 2 right now, and the vast majority of people are saying the Quest 3 is the best option hands down.
Sony can't afford to burn as much money on VR as meta. That's unquestionable. I think that's why so many people were optimistic about the prospect of hybrid titles. If Sony had better supported VR with hybrids (either of new PS5 games, or even ports of PS4 games), it would allow them to spend less on VR game development than Meta does, with potentially better results (depending on how good the VR conversion is). Instead it seems like Sony made one VR game and one hybrid, then just started paying other developers to make VR games and hybrids for them. It's disappointing.
The problem with letting Meta do all the heavy lifting in establishing VR is that they're not just trying to establish VR, they're trying to build the metaverse. If they succeed, there will be no competition, just like nobody is proposing launching a parallel version of the internet. That's why they're willing to dump billions into it. Market dominance and control.
I think there's a lot of legitimate complaints levelled at Meta, but there's also a lot of counterproductive griping and console-wars style hate thrown around in every direction. And yes, the VR community can absolutely be its own worst enemy a lot of the time. The community should be open to all newcomers regardless of the headset they chose. Some people are new to VR and bought in with a PSVR 2. Now they're constantly being bombarded with a narrative that the headset they bought is crap and it just gets Quest ports and Sony abandoned it. It goes in all directions, unfortunately.

PSVR2 users are in cope mode. I have been keeping my eye on the PSVR2 because I want one, but I also know Sony. No matter how powerful the unit is, how much tech is in the headset, or how much better the headset is over the Quest, the games need to be there. Sony can't do it alone, and they can't get 3rd party developers on board if they aren't supporting the headset themselves.
We have seen this same thing with the PS Move, PS Vita, PSVR1, and PSTV. Sony puts a lot into a piece of hardware (all of those devices were technically superior to their market competitors), supports it basically only at launch, only to abandon it shortly thereafter, 3rd party developers jump ship, then Sony kills if off. We have seen this same story play out many times. How big of a graveyard do people need before they see Sony's pattern?
VR already has a pretty large barrier to entry. Even larger with PSVR2 because you have to have a specific piece of hardware to use this hardware, then you need games people want to play, and conditions and space to play it in. Nobody is avoiding VR because there's not enough tech in the headsets. Meta has solved for 2 major factors: price and hardware requirements. Sony reintroduced those issues and brought along no backwards compatibility and a sparse game library.
On top of all of that, the headset loses a lot of it's beneficial features when you use it for PCVR. You might as well be a Quest Pro or HTC Vive.

I wish PSVR 2 was supported as well as the Vita! Sony kept manufacturing the Vita for 9 years, and published more than 30 games on it, including major first-party franchises like Uncharted, God of War, Wipeout, Killzone, Resistance, Jak and Daxter, Ratchet and Clank, Sly Cooper, and Little Big Planet. PSVR 2 would be lucky to get a quarter of that first-party output.
I agree though about Sony giving up on things that aren't obvious hits. It's down to a lack of vision, imo. Even when they decided they were going to make a huge (and I think misguided) live-service push. They bailed on a bunch of LS games before they'd even launched, including surefire hits like The Last of Us Online.
One of the most telling things to me is that Sony won't even talk about the things they ARE doing for PSVR 2. They've funded or co-funded probably dozens of titles, but they haven't breathed a word about their current or future support of the headset since launch. It's almost like they're scared people will find out they're supporting their own hardware.

I think the price is the real sticking point for pcvr used, when those features of the headset can't be used. No features, should be cheaper right? Even buying a used psvr2 headset, no one seems to want them. They should knock off at least 100 bucks off in a future sale.

    • @SargonDragon
      @SargonDragon 2 месяца назад +5

Even without those features, the PSVR2 becomes a PCVR headset with OLED panels for $600. In console land, that may be considered expensive, but in PCVR land, that's cheap! Compare that to Bigscreen Beyond at $1000 for headset only.
In addition, while Sony didn't implement official eye tracking support themselves, they did deliberately unlock the PSVR2's proprietary protections in a firmware update when they originally announced upcoming PCVR support. I believe this was done to open eye tracking and other PSVR2 hardware features to opensource.
If that opensource support comes, PSVR2 will be the only PCVR capable headset on the market with OLED and eye tracking. And it will also be by far the cheapest eye tracking capable headset period, the next cheapest being the Quest Pro at $1000.
That's a big deal especially for all the orphaned HP Reverb G2 owners out there who are looking for another PCVR headset to move to at around the price point they paid for their G2.

    • @GreyMatterShades
      @GreyMatterShades 2 месяца назад +1

Yeah one thing that's very unclear to me is whether those features are locked out by the adapter/PC software or not. Sony might've simply been stating that those features won't work with PC VR games since those games would need to be patched to support the features (and Sony might not think PC VR developers would bother). On the other hand, they might be intentionally holding those features back so that PSVR 2 is still more appealing to play on PS5, and there's a reason to buy a PS5/PSVR 2 version of a game over a PC VR version.
I imagine we'll get an answer from the modder/hacker community within a week of the adapter being released.
