I agree with you. The real part of my city is largly different from what they showed in this video. I hate the crowd and traffic jam in my hometown. the car and popluation are dramatically changing in the last 10 years (Ten years ago is was a quite and clean old city, and now it is fully occupied by cars and cars. ). However, it is also not as bad as you've seen. Tourists can hardly touch the real face of this city. The best parts of city, the university area, some part of the city heart were hardly visited by tourists. This is a city had a lot of famous artists, writers, governors and even scientists in history, even more than Beijing or Shanghai. It is still one of the culture centers of the contury. Local people's language, the life and the food are the soul. It is a fast fast developing city with very long history. If anyone expected to see an complete old city like some Italian towns like Bologna or Ferrara, he or she would feel disappointed. However, if somebody wanted to understand the real traditional Chinese culture, it is definitely one of the best place to visit. Stay here for a short period, and you will see the beauty of this town.

I sent two years there, living in Wuzhong, Sip and Wujiang and yeah i saw how different life was for people from those 3 districts. My only complain would be that Wujiang, as it is mostly inhabited by migrants workers from what i have understood is far behind SIP in term of living standard. While SIP is super clean, Wujiang is quite dirty. Some part of the old city are not as dirty and crowded as some people says...well at least if you compare with Shanghai. However people from this city are really really nice. I love Suzhou and i hope i can live there again in the future.

Suzhou is nothing like this. Smelly, loud and difficult to travel around.
