    In the state of Hawaii, April 12th was designated as "GENERATION KIKAIDER DAY " by the State Governor in 2002, and in Maui May 19th as "KIKAIDER BROTHERS DAY" by the mayor of Maui in 2007. And the 2014 reboot movie was a huge success in Hawaii. Also, the actor who played Kikader's unmorphed form (Jiro) was given the title of Honorary Hawaii Citizen. So, it sounds like KIKAIDER is quite popular in Hawaii.

    The 2001 version is the only one I’ve seen of the series and I really enjoy it. The series doesn’t get nearly as much credit or love as it should. The premise is fantastic.

      Dillon Haggett if you have Netflix, give Cyborg 009 vs. Devilman and Cyborg 009: Call of Justice a chance. I don’t really care for the cgi of the latter series, but it’s good to see a new storyline with the characters we love so much.

      The English language dubbing of the third Cyborg 009 series was utter garbage in my opinion: Cyborg 007 who was a British national spoke with an American accent. A bad attempt at a British accent would have been far more preferable; that would have showed that the company who adopted the series at least cared about the original source material (not that that would make matters that much better.)

      The 1979 series was much darker, great OST and oddly compelling. Also, less cartoonish.

    I wish there'd be an official subtitled release of the 1979 series. I grew up with and loved an atrocious Swedish dub of the series, and I'd also love to give the associated movie a shot.

      They would have to do a LOT of context explaining with the racial stereotyping of 005, 006, and 008.

    • @JediMB

      @@amyyoung2830 A quick on-screen notice before each episode would probably be fine.
      If they wanted to explain why Pyunma is purple, though? I'd welcome some extras about the history and production of the series.

    The second Cyborg 009 anime series from 1979, a joint Toei and Sunrise production, was an attempt to be more faithful to Shotaro Ishinomori's manga series. By far the biggest problem with the 1979 series is that it opened in _medias res,_ making viewers feel as if they were missing something. This was especially apparent when they made references to Skarl and the Black Ghost (whom they defeated well before the events of the first episode took place), and the Neo Black Ghost story arc that made up the second half of the 1979 series.

    • @SlapstickGenius23
      @SlapstickGenius23 3 года назад

      The 1979 tv series is in fact a somewhat source-faithful soft reboot of the 1968 series, despite being called a remake.

    There’s also the fact that Devilman Crybaby and Devilman x Cyborg 009 are on Netflix. Crybaby was hugely successful and it got a lot of people watching the crossover OVA on there since it had Devilman but also introducing them to 009.

    Besides the 2001 series, and the Cyborg 009 vs Devilman OVA, I don't think any other recent anime adaptation were good. Re Cyborg was confusing and terrible with one or two good scenes with CG but the rest was mediocre or bad. Call of Justice was terrible with one or two good scenes. The CG and the art style was worse than Re Cyborg and the story was okay but not good. If Japan isn't doing so hot with Cyborg 009 lately, then Hollywood would just push garbage especially with how political it is in 2019.

    But wait minute cyborg 009 still aired on toonami. In fact toonami moved to Saturday nights so shows like cyborg 009 , yu yu hakusho, and samurai x can get away with more violence

    • @MercuryFalcon
      @MercuryFalcon  6 лет назад +3

      When yu yu hakusho aired on Saturday Nights it was on the adult swim block. Cyborg 009 never got an adult swim run. They did play season 1 on toonami until they reached the end, but season 2 was only played on the cartoon network block at very late time slots (I think it was 1:30) which is not to be confused with the Adult Swim block

    • @xblade149
      @xblade149 6 лет назад

      MercuryFalcon really are you sure because I remember them playing all the episodes on the toonami Saturday even block 6 to 9. And I already know yuyu hakusho fate .

    • @MercuryFalcon
      @MercuryFalcon  6 лет назад +2

      I checked to see what Aldo the Fox said about the time slot issue. Aldo is an admin on the cyborg 009 wiki and a super knowledgeable guy. This is what he had to say:
      "By this time (Episode 27), Cartoon Network moved Cyborg 009 over to their AM hours block on Friday nights/Saturday mornings, with the episodes airing at 1:30 am. One theory was that this happened due to the darker content of the second season, which prevented them from showing it in its original time slot on Toonami. The more speculated theory had to do with season 1's ratings doing poorly on Toonami, which caused the rest of the dub to be shelved and then burnt off in the late-night slot."
      Also, (and this is me just remembering this) since season 2 never got a home release all the version of the dub online are TV rips. I have the TV rips downloaded and they were not ripped very well so you still see a bit of the commercial in between. At the time, Cartoon Network was doing this thing where before and after commercials, they'd have skits with the characters interacting with each other in a city. The TV rips ALL have these little bumpers where the Teen Titans are trying to get money from an ATM (or something like that.) These bumpers with characters interacting were only used on the cartoon network airings.
      I'm not saying that I'm 100% right but everything I've heard, read, and remember tells me Cyborg 009 season 2 was not aired on adult swim. However, I could be wrong as information from that time isn't the clearest. But working with what I have, this is the best I could find and it seems correct to me.
