This astonishing Concerto completes my evening of Rodrigo. All of the pieces I've heard tonight have been new to me. I've probably been guilty of overlooking much of his work due to over-familiarity with Aranjuez and Gentilhombre and assuming it was all going to be the same.......How wrong I was! I don't think I'd really considered before how distinctively sensuous his orchestration can be, even earlier pieces from the 1920s. Thanks for making so much available.
Wonderful piece/performance! Just as a curiosity: the Preludio was written in 1933 for the Spanish guitarist Regino Sainz de la Maza, with the title Tocata. A horribly difficult piece to play, that's probably why it took a truly long time to be premiered :)
So grateful for these postings, as I have NEVER been able to locate and purchase copies of my own to play in my car on my road trips. Where do you locate the CDs of these works anyway? I am so envious.

Sentimental, but a good song with a gentle melody
Being sentimental is a good thing. It means the heart will be touched.
