The greatest rock and roll band that ever was.
greatest american band
They're definitley in the conversation
The Stones might have better hit singles but as a live band they don't come even close
Best American Band and its not close
My top Ten 🔟
Fuck. I cried right in the middle and it felt really good. My Dad was still alive at this time when I was seeing lots of shows, brings me back to this time. What Jerry evokes here is for all mankind...it doesn't matter if you are here or not here, you'll always be here. Jerry gave it his all on this one, humanity pouring out of him. Thank you.
this is Garcia at his finest. I was there. raw emotion, indcredible vocals, and absolute shredding guitar. the best!!
just watched it for the hundredth time, good god this is insane
101. holy shit
This is how you play rock n roll. Brilliant
This was the first Dead show I saw--I was 18 years old & was simply blown away. Needless to say I immediately "got on the bus" & saw another 100+ shows before Garcia passed. RIP Jerry, you really were something else...
Amen
My first show as well…amazing!!!
classic Weinstein video
Wow what a first show!!!!
Probably the highlight of my 100 shows
My 5th show. Best Dew EVER!!! The lighting ( or lack thereof ), Jerry's passionate vocals, THE GUITAR SOLO.....
9/18/87 The night Jerry levitated Madison Square Garden. Chills to this day. I fucking love you Jerome Garcia!
Gotta love the nights when Garcia turned the place into a spaceship & took off!! Miss this bad
The perfect storm. Bill and Mickey bring the thunder on the drums, Brent’s organ is a howling wind and Jerry lays down the lightning with Tiger. Wow.
This show was such a popular traded tape back in the day. Everyone had it. And it was one of the first Healy Ultra Matrix’s that made it into mass circulation. Dan Healy was a pioneer in the live concert sound, played a massive part in creating the Wall of Sound with Bear and Ron Wickersham. He was an ally to the tapers and would often let them patch right into the soundboard. (Which apparently the band was NOT a fan of and some say played a part in his eventual firing). But there’s no doubt his Ultra Matrix tapes, like this one, from this period are some of the best sounding recordings out there.
Some say this is the BEST Morning Dew ever.
It's up there, I'd say best modern version but there were many
It surely is amazing and how lucky are we that someone captured it on video and then took the time to remaster the sound. It’s fantastic. I’m still partial to Cornell 5-8-77 but this one is way up there
It was that night ;-)
i agree!!!
@@augustwest5273 Totally agree
Who in the hell were the three people that gave this a thumbs down? Top five version easily. I've listened to them all. I don't care the keyboardist or the year, this is magic.
What’s your top 5?
Simply the best version I've ever heard and I want it played at my funeral! 🧡☮️🙏
You ain't lyin'
i was there. until someone shows me a better version, this is it.
Top five? Have you ever heard any Morning Dews from 77-80?
This song rips me to shreds. It always taps some deep well of emotion within me. Never fails.
And msg you can get fallafel on every corner just like.any parking.lot
I was 17 and tripping at this show. Needless to say it was a good experience.
nobody gives me the chills like this here....
Close my eyes and I am right back at MSG goosebumps and all
My last show was the next night. Epic Dew. Jerry’s mastery of the instrument and emotion on full display. Favorite performance.
Your all a bunch of lucky bastards to have seen this live and in person!!!!!!!
Fuckin incredible
I recognize how lucky I was. I miss Jer so much.
I caught 170 shows between ‘77 and the end. This night was one of the most memorable.
This is probably my most favorite Morning Dew ever. I've never heard Jerry sing it with such emotion before. His voice is sounding a little rough here, but for me that just adds to the emotion of it. His guitar solos are superb. Some of Jerry's best work right here. And to think that he was in a coma just a little more than a year before this.
WoW!! I was at this show.. so cool to see these vids ...its like a peek into the past. Thanks for posting.
What a performance. Always amazes me to see how little Jerry would move in his solos. Made it look so easy. His fingers were flying, though!
10:16 is the most punk note I ever heard The Grateful Dead play in all of the shows I saw. That shit was epic.
Brent's swell just before this perfectly sets it up.
that golden tone and supreme, relaxed melodicism
Only two minutes in and already have goosebumps. Best Dew I ever saw. Thanks so much for posting this.
5:00 mark.....tears flowing.
..seen jerry hundreds of rimes and this was one of the sickest things I have ever seen ,great run at msg in 87
One month before I was born. Beautiful.
Jerry's jamming at the end is so sweet, it brings tears to my eyes every time. What a shame that talent is no longer with us.
best show i EVER SAW
Love the genius of this beautiful rendition apocalyptic humanity love Jerry giving it everything and then sum man I miss Jerry
This was my 4 th show of many, man after this night I had the uncanny ability to be in the right places at the right times, I consider myself a luckyfucker !
Indeed. Saint(s) of circumstance
Jerry Thank for teaching harmony 😊
Nice 87....a good year saw the DEAD A TON OF TIME'S!!!
IWT, my first show since ten years and two weeks earlier at Englishtown, due to a last-minute call from an old friend I'd seen for the first time since Englishtown at a friend's wedding in NJ the weekend before (we all had been together in Springfield and Boston in April and May, and the last-minute ticket-providing old friend, Deadhead Red Ned Levine, and I been with Jerry (JGB) on the boardwalk at the Asbury Park Convention Center (opening act: The Persuasions) on 7-9-77, a fantastic hot Summer night (I suggest you find and enjoy it here).
This one grabs me and shakes me to tears, every time I listen to it. Best ever!
Back when I was trading tapes in San Francisco I found a good quality tape of this show. Morning Dew blew me away! It remains my favorite
My personal favorite dew. May also be my most listened to/favorite set of the 80's.
grateful dean brought me here.................
Ha! Same
Grateful Dean sent me
Everything that followed from the Watchtower onward was pure celebration. Everyone on the 3rd level was hand in hand dancing in a counter clockwise motion around the garden. Oneness consciousness opened up. The garden was bouncing. I remember after the encore ended and the lights came on wanting them to come back and play forever so the moment would never end. It was perfection.
The way jer sings that it doesn't matter at 8 minutes and the crowd erupts, I fuckin love it
I just fuckin love that dude
It's the best!!!!!!!
8:11 Instant goosebumps
So awesome to see/hear one of my favorite Dew's of all time!!! Thanks!
Now if you could only find footage of 6-23-88 Alpine Valley Morning Dew! It was blistering!
I was there for that run of shows, and for Dylan the night before. Hot as hell, and had the time of my life!
lord have mercy!
thank you Lo
I do believe this is right after he relearned 🎸🔥🔥🔥🎵🎵🎵
LOVE this Dew. 3/26/95 is odd and eery. I love that one too.
Goosebumps. Tears. Everything at once in this passionate dew
Im straight balling my eyes out. They'll never be anything even close to Jerry idk he was just something else he played for the heart and soul and to take pain away in his tones and voice its truly amazing
Msg was such a great place to see them....when we saw them there in 90 with Hornsby I was blown away. Our buddy hooked us with tickets. I will forever be grateful for that. The show with let it grow in the second set was one of the best I had seen before or since and I saw a bunch of em. This is a great version of dew.
Go check out the Philly 1984 show for the best let it grow ever (IMHO).
Best show I saw, of about 35
RIP JERRY!
Thank you for posting this whole thing...This is absolute magic.
Yes I totally agree with you I will always need this music the best
Jerry at 8:14... That's just the most damn magical singing moment. The whole damn song is wonderful but he pulls out the stops for that line. Holy cow.
He just poured his soul out for us in that line. Sounded like it came from the very belly of his being. This one, loud in the headphones, has made me tear up more than once. Unbelievable Dew.
Jesus. That is powerful. That's still traveling across the universe.
Very good 1987 show 5 run of shows at MSG. Jerry singing was very soulful , at times emotional this night they played good lovin , la bamba sugaree the singing on this version made me cry a little absolutely nothin like a G Dead show let the good times roll / the music never stops
Thanks for posting...an absolute monster
Happy BDay dear ol' Jerry Sir !
I think that Dew rivals Cornell. Of course, I wasn't at Cornell but was at MSG :-)
This morning dew is prob my fav all time
9:20 to 10:20 is exhibit number one why Jer was the BEST guitarist in history. 30 years of doing just THAT.
Dear Sir : Good heads-up call and INDEED ! I'd even go further to 10:55 ... The Best
YUP.
Gotta agree.
MAGNIFICENT!!!!!!
I don't know if this is right of course but with Jerry being so prolific and brilliant on this it seems as if Bobby and Phil are laying back a bit. I don't mean that in a bad way.
Rest of show uploaded next monday, after vacation !!!!!!
This show probably had the best Morning Dew and the best Terrapin.
Holy shit......and what the fuck did I just watch. 😢😅❤😮😊 I don't know what I feel right now. Thank you boys for everything you've done over the years and thank you to you for posting this so it's accessible.

My Fav Dew...
Wow! Now that’s a “Morning Dew”!
3-30-1988, Brendan Byrne Arena, New Jersey
Best Dew ever? Idk but it’s close
I was there
10:17-10:21 makes me feel like I'm being hit with a cattle prod--amazing
I don't recall another version where he hits *that note* and holds it during those chords.... it feels like 'the wrong note' at first but then it fits perfectly...
Anybody get in through the fire eascapes these shows? YOU'RE WELCOME!!! LOL
I TAUGHT I TAW A YOUNG MAN CRY TODAY
Powerful!
This song got better as the years went by.
Holy shit.
and of course 08:13
06:50
6:50
Apropos for the times
No. It doesn't matter. Love ya Jer.
❤😢
Always saved the best for MSG
pure jerry magic!!!!
I feel like I just went to church
I wonder what the people in Manhattan thought when the garden started levitating that night
Someone told me that this was the first east coast or new York dew since coming out of his coma which would seem like the reason for the loud audience
They opened the 2nd set with Morning Dew at Giants Stadium a few months before this but I guess that’s technically a NJ Dew.
Wow I’m so fucking blow away jerry is God
Joe Capozziello
I miss Brent and Jerry.
So funny, one of all-time great Dew's and they blow it at the end hehe.
