  • We have officially made it to New England! For our first stop we're in Vermont and we couldn't think of a better way to start out our time in the state than experiencing the #1 thing we think of when we think of Vermont...maple syrup! 🍁 We went on a free tour of the AMAZING Baird Farm where we learned all about the process to make maple syrup, sampled different grades of maple syrup, and then tried maple creemees for the first time!

    My Father is French Canadian and maple syrup was just part of life. They would have sugar parties where they would pour the syrup onto the snow and everyone would dig in with their fork to eat the taffy like candy it made! It’s rather funny since I grew up eating nothing but real maple syrup when friends would have me over for pancakes, I would ask what that stuff was in the bottle? It’s maple syrup they would try to tell me… once you have the real thing, there’s not turning back.

    My mind has been blown by this video. I looooove maple syrup, but the proper stuff that isn't watered down in the UK is so expensive compared to alternatives such as honey and golden syrup, but listening to the whole process, you can understand why. Your guide was so good, reminds me once again of how great your customer service is out there. Not only was he remembering names of everyone on the tour, but facts like your composting loo!!! Awesome that you're off to Burlington. I only ever saw the mall as it's where we took the campers whose parents couldn't get to camp to visit them on parents visiting weekend so it still felt like they were going on a fun adventure! Will be nice to see what was outside of it!

    • @AdventuresofAplusK

      Yay! So happy you enjoyed this one! It's definitely A LOT of work to make maple syrup, which is why it is so pricey. We have definitely mostly purchased the cheap fake stuff before to save money, but now we want to support those who work hard to make the real stuff! Jacob was truly the best, he took the time to learn about everyone and reference things about us, which made the experience so personal. Burlington was amazing, we can't wait to share it. It's definitely the kind of city (its size, outdoor focus, and overall vibe) that we could see ourselves living in someday, although Vermont is too cold in the winter for us haha!

    I hope you guys get to experience some beautiful fall color while you're there!!! So glad you're going to be staying in New England for a while because if they're anything like us here in Michigan the fall color is a few weeks behind where it is normally. Dennis's family has been making maple syrup for generations as well so our sons grew up getting to tap the trees and collect sap every spring. And they love drinking maple syrup and eating maple sugar candy as well. I didn't grow up using real syrup so I can't handle that much super with eating it plain like that but it sure is delicious on pancakes. Enjoy!!!

    • @AdventuresofAplusK
      @AdventuresofAplusK  2 года назад +1

      We’ve been out here for about a month now and finally got to see some colors, they definitely were more delayed than we thought they would be!

    • @TakeATripTogether
      @TakeATripTogether 2 года назад

      @@AdventuresofAplusK If you do participate in maple syrup making try to find a smaller operation that still uses the individual spiles and buckets on trees rather than the tubing so you can get the authentic experience!
      Yeah, we're planning to drive up into Northern Michigan tomorrow to try to see some color ourselves. The trees are just barely starting to turn where we live and that's not typically the case for mid-October. I hope we get to enjoy some color before it snows because it's hard on the trees when it snows before they have dropped their leaves.
      Safe travels!

    I grew up eating the massed produced syrup from the supermarket and had no idea how delicious the stuff fresh from the source was. We picked up some in Wisconsin and it didn't last long lol. I'd be in heaven trying all the different kinds! People are SUPER serious about their giant pumpkins! There was a new state record at the WV Pumpkin Festival this year, 2,194 pounds... literally bigger than a Smart Car. I've always wanted to attend one of those pumpkin chunkin events where they launch them with a trebuchet.

    You guys are my new favorite RUclips channel! Planning family trip to New England this summer so I watched all your videos in New England. Yours are hands down the best! I’m looking forward to checking out your other videos. I’ve got a long list of places for future family vacations. Utah and CA are coming up for us next couple years. So I can’t wait to watch those videos.

    I just got back from New England & your videos were such a helpful introduction to the area. Thanks in particular for highlighting Baird Farm. My friends and I were there to do some photography and I could tell they were wondering why I was insisting on stopping at a maple farm but afterwards they couldn't stop talking about our tour with Jacob. He's wonderfully entertaining and informative at the same time. And their syrups are wonderful.

    I always enjoy the behind the scenes look at how things are produced. Do you recall what date you were there? I noticed that trees hadn't started to change much yet.

      We have loved learning about things being made lately! And this was September 25. We timed our Vermont portion of our trip a bit too early (it’s so hard to predict!), but we did see more colors towards the end of our time in Vermont!

    What's really great about you guys is that you are seeing the whole country. You're from Texas but you don't diss the East; likewise I think many Easterners like me need to see Texas. At a time when the nation seems to be coming apart at the seams, politically, we need to be reminded that all of it belongs to all of us. We share this great country. While you are in NE I hope you go to the White Mountains in NH and also to Booth Bay Harbor in Maine. Best to you.
