Total Annihilation - The Story (with expansion)

I noticed no one has uploaded the plot / story of Total Annihilation so I thought I would.
After cleaning out my computer desk I found my CD and instruction manual.
Total Annihilation is a 1997 real time strategy game that was made to rival Command & Conquer as well as Starcraft. It was different, focusing on 'streaming' resources (constant flow but you had to use it within your means) and huge battles rather than small engagements. It wasn't as successful as those franchises, but is still fun to play every now and then.
I've always been intrigued with the story this game has. Basically in the far future humans discover a way to live forever by transferring their minds to machines (The Core). Some resist this (The Arm) and the machines get mad so... war. After 4,000 years of war, there still wasn't a winner and the resources of the galaxy are nearly diminished. Ultimate victory or defeat could be decided by just a few battles, which is what the game's story focuses on.

The Core and the Arm have all but exhausted the resources of a galaxy in their struggle for domination. Both sides now crippled beyond repair, the remnants of their armies continue to battle on ravaged planets, their hatred fueled by over four thousand years of total war. This is a fight to the death. For each side, the only acceptable outcome is the complete elimination of the other."

This also includes the plot of the expansion- the Core Contingency. Basically in this story, the Core loses the war but they have a backup plan to destroy the galaxy so if they can't win, no one wins.

I wish someone remade this. SupCom is a cool and pretty spiritual prequel painting an idea of what could've happened before TA, Planetary Annihilation just looks too clean and cartoony and it's not quite the same. I liked the grittiness and moodiness of TA. Would love to have that back, in grand scale.

Check out Beyond All Reason. It's based off the spring engine. It really feels like the TA sequel we wanted.
Other than that, check out TAF, total annihilation forever. It's a multiplayer utility.

@@akaroth7542 Nah, BAR and SupCom and PLanetart are none of them worthy sequels. TA had something truely amazing. Only creative genius, backed with a hungry team, unmolested by publishers or money men, can make such things.
Braben had complete control of Elite Dangerous, which is why it turned out how it did. He had the money to back up his own ideas, in his own time, to his own standards and of his singular vision.
TA 2 would have to come from the same kind of canvas, to truely be TA 2.
You see the success of Starcraft II, and how it basically took SC1 but made it modern, and tightened things up. That's what we need, with TA 2.

@@TheVanillatech BAR is literally TA, just better graphics, UI, physics, simulation and VFX. It's nowhere near as corrupt as most spiritual successors *cough* supcom2 *cough* and not as cartoony as PA. hell the units and the factions are literally the same with newer units being copies from maximum annihilation.

@@chadspessmehren2418 BAR is literally a heavily modded, non-vanilla TA with new units that essentially change it into a different game. It's a decent "remake". But it aint TA.

@@akaroth7542 Have you seen BAR's graphics? It is like putting Warcraft 3 next to Starcraft. Idk about you but it is somewhat offputting for me who really loves TA style.

My dad played this game and he showed it to me when I was 5. I have loved it ever since. I still use the same disk. it has a crack and is very badly damage. still works. Best game ever!

Got to admit, I was always curious as to what the arm may have been. They arn't robots, but I'm not sure if they are still human since their pain receptors got mucked with that one time lol.
