"Cancer brings people to sobriety." As a man afflicted with cancer for the past 5 years, who will one day die with cancer (or from cancer), and who has come to the lord during that time, I can say that there is wisdom in that statement. What an incredibly beautiful ascetic re-framing for me.
My God grace you and yours with the strength and understanding to make it through the struggles of health and that which comes with such struggles. Though he wasn't EO (atleast to my knowledge) Norm NcDonald had an interesting take on those that pass with cancer. His idea was those that passed didn't lose their battle with cancer, but at worst finished at a draw with the cancer. I like to take it a step farther and say we know those in Christ will not die, so though their body dies, they live on and through Christ have victory over cancer. Stay safe and stay strong out there brothers and sisters, Jesus Christ loves you.
Any situation when death becomes something real that can happen any time and not just in the distant future this brings us to sobriety. Death is the best philosophy.
@@4ja2vi0 amen , much time, NormMac Donald I learned of him through David Wood, favorite Christian Pshycopath, he is very funny and charismatic so is Norm, I agreed this is the positive optimistic perspective, Not edgy nor emo, nor in love with death nor cynical, but the fight at best is at a draw where both loose physically, yet the Christian has lived on in spirit comforted by Christ in heaven, no longer tormented by evil, Cancer, Satan, evil humans which make us drained of graces, We Christians truly win when we persevere to the finish line and die believing not rejecting. Christ, were not Judas who didn't persevere, were Peter who persevered though he rejected God we will still make it and be forgiven amen in the name of the father the son the holy Spirit!
I am a breast cancer survivor. I could write a book called the Gifts of Cancer. The first gift is, you have to face your own mortality. Once you have accepted the fact that you could die, then every day after that is a gift from God. And you learn to embrace life with gratitude. I also noticed something quite unexpected. For many people cancer is their greatest fear. When they hear you have cancer, they immediately go into their compassionate self. And become very loving. My life became very beautiful because I was surrounded by so much love. Another gift is humility. You have to accept love and help, and learn how to ask for help when you need it. That takes humility. This was a great video. Thank you for posting it.

Went to my local Greek Orthodox Church for the first time today. Was the best experience of my life. Coming from a Jewish background I finally feel that I’m home. God bless you all.
I have a grade IV Glioblastoma (brain cancer) as a 25 year old. I am now learning theology and diving deeper with Christ almighty. Looking to move towards priesthood or pastoral work. Blessed be the name of the LORD!
I'm a recent convert. I've had 3 different cancers and each one was difficult and life altering. I do view them as gifts from God. They helped lead me to belief and repentance. Glory to God! He is loving and merciful!
Thank you for this beautiful word, Father. As one who has recently undergone treatment for an aggressive type of breast cancer I can say that it's been a precious gift in my life. I witnessed so many people open their hearts to God to pray on my unworthy behalf. People who never talked about God before prayed for me. I was blessed to behold numerous faith affirming indicators of God's ever present attentiveness to even the seemingly most inconsequential details of my life. God arranged so many blessings on this journey and I would not change a thing about it. I pray we are all healed of our maladies in this life, but more importantly I pray that we our found worthy in our repentance to gain ultimate healing and life unending. 🙏
In 2017, a little bit after having gotten married, I received the dreaded phone call from my gynecologist informing me that my latest pap smear was positive. I had a CIN 3 which is the last stage of precancerous changes on the cervix before cancer. I was 26, for the next few years my whole world felt like falling apart, but it was this experience that eventually brought me back to the religion I was baptised in - orthodoxism. 7 years and many happenings later my husband and I are expecting our 2nd child, I am healthy, I'm a mother, my pagan raised husband considers himself a christian. I could have lost the ability to conceive, carry, birth a child and of course my own life. But that miraculously never happened. God has given me not only everything I ever wanted, but some things I never knew that existed and never dared to dream of. There's not one day in the past years that I'm not overwhelmed with gratitude.
My paternal father was taken away from us two weeks before I was 1 from pancreatic cancer. Told my mother he was sorry he couldn't be here to help raise us. I hope he was able to make it, even though I never really knew him I know that God will judge rightly for his deeds. This gives me hope I might be able to see him again when my time is up.
Father Cleopa was a miracle of man, he had the gift of speaking to the people and making them convert to the Holy Orthodoxy or coming back to Christ from atheism. He was a simple man with little education but had the power to make anyone listen carefully the word of God that he was preaching. I live 50 km away from Sihastria monastery and when I was a child my mom took me numerous times to listen father Cleopa preaching, he and Father Ioanichie Bălan from the same monastery were the voices of God in our country in those harsh communist years and right after. They spoked and wrote many books that teach us the pathway to Heaven. May God help you finish the book about his life and Father Cleopa bless you and pray to God for you and your family!
Very hard to concur with your message father. My wife got cancer and I was her caregiver for ten months. She survived the cancer and when her treatment finished I crashed in burnout and had a nervous breakdown losing my job, my livelihood and my career. It ruined my life and so now I am to be thankful for that?
Through the greatest of your sufferings, God provides you the greatest of medicine. Your trials will produce great pains but take heart, Christ overcame all of it and He will give you more strength than you can imagine. This will help cure our fallen mindset if we persevere. ❤
When conversion does take place, the process of revelation occurs in a very simple way; a person is in need, he suffers, and then somehow the other world opens up. The more you are in suffering and difficulties and are desperate for God, the more He is going to come to your aid, reveal who He is and show you the way to get out. - Fr Seraphim Rose

My father passed on 17 June 2019 after he had beaten cancer. It was the day of the Holy Spirit and right after Father’s Day. I had just written my exam I had been studying for which prevented me from seeing him for 2 months and I went to see him with my whole family. We took him to the hospital because he fell over the day before when falling asleep on a chair… it wasn’t anything serious… they did a lumbar puncture on him to test him and the next morning when we were all in the hospital the doctor came in saying “I have great news, your results say you are perfectly healthy”… then she found out he had passed. We couldn’t find a priest because they were all busy with the service for the day of the Holy Spirit and we managed to get the priest who worked at the chapel at the school. I lit him a candle for him today. There were 300+ people at his funeral
