I love this video! Your voice narration can be so cute at times too lol. I want to do a bio active enclosure for my jumper so i was looking for videos and found this! The video earned my subscription, i can’t wait to watch more of your videos!!
ty so much i have the same enclosure and i literally had no idea what i should make in the enclosure and when this video popped up i was inspired and tomorrow ill go to the store and buy the accesories
this looks great for a first ever enclosure! i have been scared to get started for a couple years now but im finally getting everything i need and gonna make one for a couple ivory millipedes. super exciting
So Happy to see this. Also doing a bioactive in the Nano Tall when mine have grown. You could also add one of the Dwarf Isopods to help with soil and to eat the carcasses.
This “voice narration” is like the lady version of listening to a Thomas Shahan macro video….. Which is a complement. I’m now a subscriber… and just want to say this channel is unrated like another commenter pointed out. Keep making videos, pleased ❤️
this specific exo terra enclosure would not work for a sling because they would fit through the vent holes in the front :( the decor and everything in a different enclosure with smaller vents would work great though !
This was a great first video. I shudder to think what a disaster it would've been had I tried to film mine. I saw you used a butter knife and I facepalmed. That had to have sucked. I made multiple mistakes, personally. I used a razor blade, but I had to hold it in my fingers lol. I ended up using a steak knife. I looked into Biodude substrate and I do NOT recommend it. While I'm sure it is high quality, the price is exorbitant, to say the least. You've gotta be ready to spend like mad to use that company. I used NEherp. They seemed to be cheaper than joshs frogs, but it's very close, I think, and it is very good stuff, and it comes with everything you need, microfauna, mesh, drainage, leaves, and plenty of everything. It was slightly under $100 including shipping, for an 18x18 footprint tank. I got some plants from them, too. One of which is a Peperomia caperata "schumi red". Another mistake I made was not using gloves. I used drylock instead of silicone and substrate, got it all over me just the same, but it was the expanding foam that really gave me grief. It came off though, after about 4 days lol. Probably my number one mistake was not allowing the foam to cure long enough. That's how my hands became covered in it. I did bg and sides, and since I lodged cork and sticks into the foam, when I turned it on its side to begin another side, I was able to almost finish foaming the third side when the foam and wood from the first side began to sag and stretch and pull away from the glass and it was a disaster, though I was able to mitigate it sufficiently somehow. I have some cork flat pieces I wasn't able to use though. Another mistake I made, this is actually the biggest, was using twiggy wood. It'll be fine for the crested gecko while it's still small, but I'll have to make significant changes before it is full grown. Vivarium wood is so expensive. I skimped and now I'm going to have to pay the price. The entire endeavor is just seriously expensive lol. If I knew how much it would end up costing, I probably wouldn't have done it. I heard it would cost around $400-500. That would have been a dream. Luckily I got a great deal on a gorgeous gecko :) I learned an awful lot though. Binging hours and hours of bioactive howto videos on youtube for 2 months wasn't enough. There should be more videos of people doing it for the first time. Those would be most instructive, I think.
i mainly buy plants from etsy, reptile shops (including online ones like josh's frogs), and local plant nurseries that i know don't use pestisides! sometimes i buy from lowes but you just have to wash them really well to make sure they dont have any pesticides (or pests for that matter) or fertilizers left on them! since jumping spiders dont eat plants you dont have to worry about them being toxic or anything like you would for a dog or a cat or some reptiles. just make sure the care of the plant matches the care of the jumping spider (for humidity and water requirements) :))
I found this so helpful! I'm trying to find some good info for natural habitat of my phiddipus regius but there's many conflicting articles, could you give me any advice?
This enclosure is great for adult Phidippus species like Phidippus regius. Juveniles and smaller species would be able to squeeze through but I had no problem with escaping for my adult Phidippus adumbratus featured in this video :))
i chose a peperomia because they don't need a lot of watering !! (once every 1-2 weeks and allow soil to dry out between waterings). i do not recommend choosing a plant that requires anything more for this build :)
i haven't had that problem with this specific spider in this enclosure but if you have a smaller spider then i recommend the spider condos from BigFatPhids !! i use them with my smaller species and never had a problem :) i made a video about jumping spider enclosure decor that features those enclosures if you want to see how they look and the spider i keep in them ! i hope it helps :D
I don’t know why, but i thought there was a small snake coming down from the top into the camera’s view. It took me a few seconds to realize that it was a lock o your hair! 😂
Nice set up just came accross your channel , i got some jumping spiders too now in my channel , i am maining a mantis channel but you can check it out and see my set ups there if you want, shes a cute little jumping spider haha 😁! -Darren
her little giggles are so adorable

What species of jumping spider did you put in here?
sorry for the late response!! she was a california red jumping spider (phidippus adumbratus) i believe
Do you think this enclosure would be okay for a sling?
this specific exo terra enclosure would not work for a sling because they would fit through the vent holes in the front :( the decor and everything in a different enclosure with smaller vents would work great though !
I LOVE THIS!! I'd love to make a bio-active enclosure for my jumper one day :)
omg did you say fingee? hahaha gold

Just wondering is it ok to mist the plants when she's in it?
yes! don't spray her directly but they will drink from the water droplets created :) i only spray once a week so humidity doesn't get too high
where do you get your plants for these enclousures? is there a list of safe plants somewhere? im brand new to this!
i mainly buy plants from etsy, reptile shops (including online ones like josh's frogs), and local plant nurseries that i know don't use pestisides! sometimes i buy from lowes but you just have to wash them really well to make sure they dont have any pesticides (or pests for that matter) or fertilizers left on them! since jumping spiders dont eat plants you dont have to worry about them being toxic or anything like you would for a dog or a cat or some reptiles. just make sure the care of the plant matches the care of the jumping spider (for humidity and water requirements) :))

hii i'm glad i could help!! what exactly do you need advice on? and you can always dm me on instagram for an easier convo (@bioactive_b)
Just to be sure since I'm considering getting this tank. The jumping spider won't crawl through the ventilation holes? At the front

Its nice
Is the foam safe for them?
once it's cured, yes! :)
wondering how the watering went since jumpers are sensitive to too much water
i chose a peperomia because they don't need a lot of watering !! (once every 1-2 weeks and allow soil to dry out between waterings). i do not recommend choosing a plant that requires anything more for this build :)
Spring tails are for? :)
they eat fungus and mold and overall breakdown organic matter so they help clean the enclosure and fertilize the plant !
Ohhh omg ✍️ taking notes I have a wild caught so I’m learning everything I need to know
Any issues with the jumper escaping? Mine keeps finding a way out 😔

I really like the background you made her! out of curiosity, can jumping spiders walk on glass walls? "jump into it" ... no you didn't hahahaha
thanks ! sorry for the late reply but yes, jumping spiders can walk on glass walls :D
I don’t know why, but i thought there was a small snake coming down from the top into the camera’s view. It took me a few seconds to realize that it was a lock o your hair! 😂
I'm 4min in and all I can think is, there goes the security deposit on that apartment lol
