  • In this video I discuss in detail why I use EQ both before and after compression and the benefits of doing so. Where you should apply your EQ if you only have one and how you can utilise in the box EQ to gain more from your analogue mastering chain.

    Generally speaking I favour the idea of corrective EQ, then compression, otherwise compression exaggerates imperfections that weren't EQed out

    Surgery digital EQ vor the first comp, then SSL Bus+ Glue, then AA Erin comp or Aquamarine - for example - as mastering comp, then a broad colourful EQ if needed. As AA Smoke EQ or Erin EQ.
    2 EQs and 2 Comp.

    Small mastering chain, SSL The Bus+, Neve 8803 EQ, Neve MBT - in what order would you place them? Saturation and some EQ happens in the box before going out, limiting after coming back in. Thanks.

    Me before playing the video: "Paul is gonna say both." Video starts, Paul: "Why not both?"

      Haha, that's only because I'm in a luxury position to do both. But if you had one EQ, I'd say EQ then compression.

      @@AudioAnimalsStudio Definitely -- and that's one thing I love about your videos. You try to consider many perspectives, use cases, and budgets, then provide advice and solutions for different people/scenarios.

      Yeah that MBT is awesome. I'm contemplating if I need the MBP still.

      @@AudioAnimalsStudio I am having a hard time parting ways with mine but Fusion is leaving for sure

    • @AudioAnimalsStudio

      @tytansoundlab the Fusion it is a simple choice. Direct swap. Only thing you may miss is the mid side insert if you use it. Apart from that the MBT replaces every feature of the Fusion.

      @@AudioAnimalsStudio no mid side use I have the Buss+ on the insert for slight buss compression that’s all

    Strange...other sound technicians said the opposite. So... do what you think is better for you.

      Opposite to before and after would be after and before?

    • @Ve8g
      @Ve8g 11 месяцев назад

      @@AudioAnimalsStudio no, you said : EQ before compression. And not compression before EQ if you have only one EQ. If you do both, it will obviously work well.
