There are screens as a part of culture of living in Croatia. In Slavonija and Baranja it was common thing to have fixed screens on the window. I said it was because now days as Miloš says AC made screens obsolete.

I'm not sure about things in general, but everywhere I've lived in Europe (Austria and Croatia) there were no screens. Our apartment now is the FIRST place I've lived in Europe where we have screens. They are great, of course! :-)

Great video you two. Since I’m American I need my flat sheet and window screens and dryer. 🤣 BUT, if I lived where you do I can see his point to just want to lean over the window sill and enjoy the open air.

Hahaha! I hear ya! You don't realize how much you miss a dryer until you finally get to use one again after hanging your clothes on racks for months! Hahaha!

It’s a Milos channel take over. This is very insightful. Where in Indiana were you exchange student and did you participate in sports? They probably could use decent water polo players.

Haha! Milos was an exchange student in Centerville, Indiana. He played tennis - and did REALLY well! (His record was 24-1.)

No top sheet here :) Screens are a must with cats!

Wow to no top sheet! :-D
Our windows open to balconies, so there's no issue there with the cat. (We have cat netting all along the balconies, though!)

you will appreciate the screens when at 4:00am you hear a sound around your ear, turn on the light and try to find where that mosquito landed to kill it and hope its not the only one......when you wake up in the morning and have several bites you know he wasn't the only one

    • @JenTheSingingTraveler

Definitely! No one wants that mosquito in the room, let alone a bunch of 'em!

meanwhile almost everyone I know (Zagreb) has a dryer and I agree it's a must have in a household, I also had screens everywhere I lived in Croatia... But flat sheets, yeah, that's not gonna happen like ever, the bedding gonna washed 2 x a week and if it's not washable I won't buy it🤷🏼‍♀️

Dryers yes, flat sheet yes and window screens that go up and down also 100 % yes 👍

So relatable on all counts as a Canadian (no offense taken ;)) who lives part time in Croatia. Had to laugh at laundry especially. ..in Croatia it's an event!
The small things such as toilets and pulls and buttons for flushing are amusing to us. So are the half shower doors (or merely tiny ineffective "shields"). Not to mention a few squat toilets we've encountered in Croatia and elsewhere. The differences are fascinating! I can't wait to hear what's next! Hoping this is a LONG series! :)
    Thank you!

Thanks so much! Yes - there are so many little things that become very noticeable! We do have enough filmed footage for at least one more video (Part 3), but I do have to get around to editing it. (I promise it won't be too long!) And yes, I hate those squat "toilets!" Fortunately, they're rare.

@@JenTheSingingTraveler Spending extended periods of time somewhere is definitely enlightening! I get a kick out of our differences. In Canada we don't see scorpions in homes (needless to say) but they are common in Croatia. I was a bit disconcerted the first time I saw one in the living room. Our house is in rural Istria so little critters are the norm. But, as you know, so is magnificent beauty.
I'm looking forward to your next video!

Re: hanging your clothes to dry them. Make sure there is not a farmers field next door and make sure it was not plowed recently. Ask me how I know!!!
