You too have the best chemistry! I love watching your channel because I get the best of both worlds. I make jewelry using wire and semi-prescious stones and I paint using acrylic and watercolors. Watercolors is a new love for me. You both encourage me a lot. Especially with painting because I go thru boughts of "you suck" moments. Thank you both for what you do.

I am so glad that you both are in my life😉. I’ve been painting and making jewelry for a few years now. Just opened my own studio a couple months ago. Your insight is always so helpful!!! You both make learning enjoyable and easy to follow along😎

I think you just need to be yourself and try to have a selection of pieces set up, just like you said, be patient with your visitors and honest. Oh yeah a clean up is important too! Have a great day!

A lot of places in the UK have an annual Open Studios event. I wanted to take part, but rent a studio locally at a gallery, for the two weekends, but was told they don't have one available. They suggested I could still take part but open my home studio to be part of the event. It would be advertised in their brochure. I was concerned for my safety and security, I do not want random strangers turning up at my house. Sometimes people I know ask to come and have a look, that's ok with me.

Thank you so much for answering my questions! I've had so much going on in my life that I completely forgot all about this! This was all great advice! My studio situation is the same basically (it's my bedroom) and my gallery is above our couch! haha! Thank you so much! You guys are wonderful! I always feel super weird inviting people into my apartment. I have 5 cats, so... I get labeled the crazy art-cat lady. :p

Rafi.... what a great idea, thank you for the advice about actually asking clients what they may have in mind in order to create specific portfolios 👍

I keep looking at your studio way in the back and I see your kitchen cabinets and your microwave. And I have to ask you, do you ever cook fish in that kitchen? Do any of the food smells get into your art work?

I would be okay with someone that had 42 ferrets as long as they didn't mind if I had 40 cats. :p I don't have that many now. I only have 5 but I did have that many once. I was heavy into feral cat rehab and adoptions in younger days. I remember one first date I had. He was super attractive but also made me super nervous. I gave my boss his info as well as where we were going and when I would be back to get my car which I left in the parking lot because I felt better having my date meet me at work. My boss was cool and like a 2nd father. Everything was fine on that first date though but still glad I took some precautions. - Heidi

Me estoy especializando en southwestern and large art jewelry estilo. Gracias por inspirarme para seguir adelante con mi propocito!! :)....Adios!! :)

I've only had a few people in my studio and invariably the first words out of their mouths are "Wow, did you do all these?" At which point I usually start babbling like an idiot because I can't bring myself to say "Duh!, who did you think did them?"and it's all pretty much down hill from there. LOL!

Only time I've had people in my space is during a studio tour when people do the rounds visiting a bunch of studios over an annual tour weekend. Does the art community where you are do that and have you participated? Many choose to show their stuff in the home of another artist who doesn't mind having the serial killers knowing where they live or they have a separate rented art space where they work so several will show in there just for that weekend

What are your thoughts on going to college for art? Everyone is expecting me to go despite being unable to pay for it. I have always believed skill is more important than an art degree, but getting others to agree with me is like pulling teeth..

  • @DMPaul

So how have you gone about finding clients-other than markets? Have you taken art to galleries? Are you in a secret art group? (I wrote that as a joke, but am now thinking maybe I should create one!) I guess what I’m really asking is, where have your collectors come from?🤪

I think that if I opened my studio I would have to insist on a no clothing policy. So this way I get live models for figure drawing. I wonder if this would work, come on in and get comfortable. Also purchase my paintings, drawings, and sculptures.
Maybe a sign saying shirt and shoes no service. Or maybe some other more creative way of saying this.
Now I'm thinking that my studio is a drug house/lab. Every time I see these in movies the peoples working are not wearing much so they do not have the chance to steal.
Maybe the studio is crazy enough for this???
Sorry, very tired right now. Moving to Texas in a few days so lots of packing. :D

Studio visit? Ahh no lol. I do meet with my clients and walk them threw commissions because most of the time their not sure what to expect when investing in my art. Oh yah and home visits like if it will fit within their environment and that stuff. Perhaps my next studio move and location lol

How do you deal with sales outside of your home? I'm in a town where certain places don't like you to sell on their property, so trying to sell anything is less like having a casual cup of coffee, and more like a shady, back-corner drug deal. *eyeroll* *cough* Starbucks! *cough*

    • @gina-mariehammer8167
      @gina-mariehammer8167 5 лет назад

@@Rafiwashere I once showed some of my jewelry to a client at Starbucks and they told me that if I was selling anything, I had to leave. I calmly explained that I was simply showing my work, and I was forced to exchange money and the item elsewhere.

What are some ideas on where to meet somebody to show artwork? I’ve met at a coffee shop to discuss something I had on my iPad, I’d rather not meet in a parking lot and my artwork will be anywhere from 8 x 10 to 11 x 14. I’m also thinking if the weather is bad where to meet. Does anybody have any ideas?
