Super Mario Bros. was simply an evolution of this

The idea that this game would be for two players did not come about until Shigeru Miyamoto was inspired by Williams' Joust. The name for Mario's brother, Luigi, who is introduced in this game, came from a pizza parlor nearby the then-new Redmond, Washington headquarters of Nintendo of America called "Mario and Luigi's."
I love this game. There aren't any more changes after phase 35, so I completed phase 36 (the last level of that group of six) and phase 37 because it was a bonus stage and then I lost on purpose at phase 38. Story-wise that would be the end of the adventure, Mario and Luigi cleaned the sewers and went home. My favorite enemies are the sidesteppers, and they are also the fastest and most dangerous ones, lol. I would have an arcade cabinet of this game if I could.
It was easy to tell that this guy gave up the last couple minutes of this video/the game and just kept purposely killing himself off, except that I don't understand why he decided to do that with one lousy crab left that he could've gotten. At least finish a level first if you're that close to doing so. Maybe the next level would've been different. But if he was having even more trouble with it and there were still several enemies left, then he could've just killed himself off. But I do agree that if after a point, the levels are each exactly the same, then it isn't so fun and interesting anymore. And it did look like it was starting to do that. But he still should've killed off that last enemy and finished a level before quitting.
I like to think that after they went home the next day later Luigi and Mario go investigate the pipes but both of them get sucked into the pipes and get sent into the mushroom kingdom
It's kind of funny how many people think Chris Pratt got the game wrong when they themselves for some reason don't even know this game exists and is technically the game that started the whole formula. Two italian plumber brothers, getting coins and hitting blocks, turtles, etc. I mean, he's technically not wrong that you can "stomp" on Koopas, but I'm pretty sure you wouldn't get very far. xD

@Pedro GonzalesIf you wanna check the dates, use wikipedia or some other site for dates. You can check gameplay of the game and watch on youtube to see that it has luigi
The first video game I ever played. My Auntie took me to the Laundry Mat back in the Mid 80's gave me a quarter and I played this while she was washing clothes. 1985 or 86' to be exact. I was 4 or 5 years old and needed a step stool! The Original Mario Bros, Ms. Pac Man and Dig Dug are all tied for my favorite Video Game of All time! and I can say I love my Atari 7800 who brought great versions of all three of these games!
I can't tell you how many times that when I played this, I thought it had Super Mario Bros physics, i.e. that you could change jumping direction mid-air.
@@RodConvoy1987 The game actually does, albiet due to a glitch in the game's programming. Once you reach over 975-990k points (depends on what the machine's rate of giving extra lives is set to), the game's routine for 'what next score threshold has to be passed to get another bonus life' overflows since you can only have up to 999999 points, causing it to think that the next bonus-life score is 0 points instead. And of course, since you have way above that amount of points, it'll give you a bonus life every frame when it does the check. After a few seconds, this'll cause your life counter to overflow from 255 to 0 (gotta love 8-bit arithmetic!), and the game will automatically declare a game over if the lives counter ever reaches 0, even if the player hasn't actually died to cause it. So thus, whatever Phase you end up getting such a score on (coincidentally this is around Phase 98-99 at optimal play) is the end of the game.
How is it that nobody has made a hack that removes the squeaking sound from the arcade game? It's kinda annoying. The walking sound from the NES version is a lot easier on the ears.

Here's a long story of how I would make a Mario back story during the early days, Mario and Luigi were brought up by the stork just like in Yoshi's Island and lived in the mushroom kingdom until they grew up and went through sewer pipes to the real world specifically Brooklyn, New York. Mario preferred to stay in Brooklyn over the Mushroom kingdom while Luigi stayed home and then the Donkey Kong arcade games take place. Mario meets Pauline and has a rivalry with Donkey Kong and became a carpenter. After Donkey Kong 2 after feeling bad for being the bad guy, he retires as a carpenter and became a plumber and let Stanley deal with DK. Meanwhile Mario convinces Luigi to come to Brooklyn and that's when the Mario Bros arcade game took place. After getting rid of the turtles and crabs, Mario breaks up with Pauline by telling her he's seeing an old special someone (Peach) and moves back into the Mushroom kingdom with Luigi starting the Super Mario Bros NES game we all know and love. As for DK and DK Jr, they move back to the jungles and then DK III from the Donkey Kong Country series is born while DK Jr mysteriously disappeared. That's how I would do a back story of Mario in the early days.
