    Spent 4 hours trying to get new belts on then found your video and 15 minutes I had my new belts installed. Also bought the package of belts from Amazon which cost $7.00.the ones I put on measured 1and 3/8. Wish I would have found your excellent video sooner, thanks

    Great video. I have not worked on an audio cassette player for 20 years and needed this review to not screw up. You should have cleaned with isopropyl alcohol and a Q tip the pullies where the belts fit into before replacing the belts.

      I actually did do this off camera when I took the old belt off the first time I bought this. The belts were completely disintegrated and there was tape goo everywhere. That stuff is nasty! Thank you for watching!

    all of a sudden both my decks completely stopped. The lights were on and i could hear a humming so it was on, couldn’t understand why the wheels could t move at all. I could see one deck maybe but not both being dead. Rather than just junk it, I was curious to see what was going on inside. Before opening went on RUclips and found your video. I found all the belts on both decks were melted to the wheels. It seemed easy enough to get them off and put new ones on thanks to your video, but it was incredibly hard to get all the melted rubber off. With alcohol I tried but got to a point where I just gave up and decided to put the new belts on anyway. Wasnt sure if the tension would suffer with maybe the belts not rotating right like sticking, but luckily it worked and both decks are back! Amazing and thanks again for the video for guidance.

    Looked at other youtubes on this subject my model was aTC-W380 no one did one on that model, but yours made it seem easier. The hardest part was my belts had reverted back to the goo they were made from..cleaning was a mess....had to guess the lengths but just seeing how they needed a little tension but not too much..well It worked great...BTW if one doesn't have magnetized screw drivers, just rub the size you need against a magnet a little bit and they will be magnetized.

      Thanks for the tip. Yeah Sony cassette decks from this era were not bad at all. Sold this model to someone else a few years ago and never got a complaint. I've even bough myself a big bag of different belts to have on hand in case I find another one. Thank you for watching!

    FYI you don't actually have to remove the motor to get the belts on. You can slip them through and onto the pulley with something pointy like a small screw driver.

    Just had this same problem with my SONY dual cassette. It just wouldn’t play one day when I tried it. Looked at your video when I decided it might be the belts. I ordered new specific ones for my player. They were less than 10 dollars. I changed them myself & wa la . Got cassette music again. For what it’s worth, one belt was melted & gooey on the belt wheel. Be sure to check them. The other one was clean. Thx.

    Loved the video to replace the belts to remove just the right part/motor and to find a flat type! What is the flat belt thickness size in mm? Did a search and many came up, which is good they are still out there just trying to narrow down the right assortment!

    • @joelsdiy9469
      @joelsdiy9469  3 года назад +1

      I did this totally by feel. I took the old belts out and compared them to my baggy of belts. Luckily it all worked! My baggy did not come with a specific size it just said assorted. However, I would make sure that the baggy you get is specifically for belts used for cassette players or ask the seller if these can be used for cassette tape players. Many times sellers will not specify on the belt widths in order to make sure people don't undercut them by buying assorted bags that are much cheaper.

    Hi
    I have the same model and I will replace the belt. However I notice another wheel connected to tape counter. My question : where is that connected to since I only have two belts? Thank you for sharing your video!

    • @joelsdiy9469
      @joelsdiy9469  3 года назад +1

      I don't recall if the counter gets a belt on this model. It depends on your type of mechanism. If your counter doesn't work, you'll have to do some research or attempt to disassemble (only if you're comfortable doing so) to find out, but do so at your own risk!

    • @ytskeptic6834
      @ytskeptic6834 3 года назад

      I am trying to replace belts on a TC-WE305 this afternoon. Almost all of mine are completely disintegrated. But, I see a belt that operates the counter mechanism on the recorder. The white pulley for it is on the far right hand side (almost directly behind and approx 2" below where the model number is on the front of the chasis.) The other pulley appears to be hidden under the housing (where the drive belts are). So, I'll probably have to take the housing off. (I won't know whether this is necessary until I remove the drive motor for the record side.) If you have a kit, one of the 5 belts is a long one that may be a tiny bit thinner than the other two longer belts. Since this belt does not have a twin, I assume it is for the counter. Good luck. If you have replaced the counter belt and have some advice, PLS share! Thanks.

      @@ytskeptic6834 I’m just looking at the same thing on mine, and it appears that the whole Deck B “mechanism” needs to come out to replace the counter belt, unless I’m missing something.

      Excellent video. The long belt for my tape counter is also broken, hanging over the white pully and I can't see where the other pully on the deck is located. I guess I can do without the counter if I can't find it.

      Honestly it is hard to say because unfortunately all cassette decks have different sizes, like turntables. I would still recommend getting the assorted bag (just my opinion) because out of 5-6 cassette decks I've fixed only once did I not find the right one. This is just my experience (mind you). That round belt is not designed for tape decks. You need a square belt, because of the v shape of the groove if the pulley.

My question is more fundamental and I am working from a kit of 5 belts so I have a decent "hint" what to do. Which belt is smaller (shorter) --- the belt on the 1st pulley you installed or the 2nd pulley (that attaches to the drive motor housing on one end)? I've looked at the Service Manual (available at HiFiEngine) and it's not helpful about the belts. Good video, thx.
