Eagles mate (copulate) year around to maintain their bond. Eggs are only laid during the short period of fertility. There are no outward signs that tell if Jackie is ready to lay eggs (I wish!). It will be a surprise for everyone😊
Egg-laying is mainly driven by photoperiod (amount of light birds are exposed to). Birds in southern latitudes lay eggs earlier and have longer nesting periods than their counterparts in northern latitudes. In Big Bear, eggs are usually laid in January - March 🥚

Shadow was feeling big and manly after mating with Jackie…and then completely missed his hop to the next branch and had to fly off with red cheeks 😳 A busy day for these two!

Yes, snag means a dead tree. There are several videos of Bald Eagle nests built from scratch on YT. I would recommend the Dale Hollow nest 😊.
