I still have mu hubby but his health not very good but where we retired our big land and rural living I could keep u the outside and inside we had so much snow even having plow I had much to shovel. So we decide in Jan 221 to sell our what we called our forever home. For we didn't want any stairs in or out and no yard work , but we did want patio and attached garage. We decide renting was the best thing really scary because we always own a house. It turn best move thing we we bank our money from our in the bank, We have a fairly good income hubby retired 26 year Navy. So rented Redwood apartments in our state of Michigan the pace is nice it's quiet. Mostly career could and retired no pool no playground . We pull into our garage enter our place with no step no matter front door or garage. It been 2 years and it's 1295 square that the smallest apartment I can't say enough good thing if something need fixing there right there to fix it. The years and outside are kept up well too. We waiting for this apartment being build so we moved into a brand new place, we did need to buy our washer or dryer which was okay with us. It,s home now if something happens to either of us we will be okay too. All my three children live within 10 to 15 minutes from us which is nice too. I agree with you take it one day at a time we did not do fast we took about 2 years where we knew we had to do something. We did sell our home less then 48 hour had three offers all above asking price. It when so fast and easy so I think God had his hand in this with us. I prayer you d what you want for your self your hubby would want that fr you I am sure. Hugs

Those of us on retirement/social security payments seem to all be struggling. It seems like food keeps going up every month. As well as rent and utilities. I’ve been cutting down on most extras. I have purchased most of my clothes and shoes at bargain prices, mostly at thrift stores. I appreciate this site as I read the comments and realize it’s not just my friends and myself struggling.

Thank you for the update. You are very inspiring. I went over by about a dollar for this past two week period. I am allowing 25 dollars weekly ( I shop every two weeks ) then I have fifty dollars that I can float month to month if not used, so that if a meat sale happens, or some other sale, I can get some for my freezer. My freezer and pantry are usable on my challenge. But I need to replace anything I eat from my 25 dollar budget sometime during the month. I do have five dollars left from last month and I am out of bread. I may go up later today and get a loaf of bread. I am getting fresh cherry tomatoes from the garden, and was gifted a zucchini. I did however spend money that I should not have, but not on food. So it is going to leave things pretty tight for about two months. But I did it to myself. These things I bought were either desires, or should get sometime in next few months. None were must haves. But I will be fine. Just ultra tight. I do not at this time include my dogs food, toilet tissue, paper towels, or cleaning supplies from food budget. I have a separate budget for that. I frequently find sales and coupons for laundry detergent. I do not favor a certain brand. All of my cleaning products come from the dollar aisle st dollar general or dollar tree. My toothbrushes and toothpastes are famous names and good quality and they come from dollar tree. I only have to get dog food Avery 2.5 months or so my small dog eats 1/4 cup of her Purina small bites twice daily and gets a green mintie chew once a day. Toilet paper and paper towels come from Walmart but occasionally there is a good sale at big lots, Walgreens, cvs, or dollar general. I have decided to get a part time job two or three days a week so that I can get my three major bills paid off within 8 months or so. I am also looking for some sort of other from home income stream. But I don’t plan on keeping the part time job more than 8 to 12 months. I tire very easily. My life has totally changed since I had type A flu this past November. I have not been the same since. Ultra fatigue all the time. I have a three wheeled motorcycle. It exhausts me to ride the motorcycle. And to think , just a few weeks before that flu episode I had started in France, and hiked over the pyranees mountains about 120 miles into Spain. I was 65 at the time. And now I am 66. I cannot believe the change over one flu episode. I have plans to return and do 500 miles in Spain hiking all the way to the coastline this time. I don’t think my body is going to allow this. Plus, all the military and terrorist unrest in the Middle East. And it is not that far from Spain. They are all on the Mediterranean. So I am not sure I want to go with everything going on.

Speaking of the zucchini - this past week I made oven zucchini fries and they were delicious. Mix equal parts shredded parmesan cheese (cheap stuff in the jar with the green lid) and bread crumbs. Add dried parsley, italian seasoning, garlic powder, and salt and pepper. Dip fries in an egg wash, then in dry mix. Spray sheet with cooking spray and bake at 425 for about 15 minutes, flip fries and bake until fries turn slightly brown. Serve with ranch dressing. Yummy. Diane

Thank you Robin for your strategy 😊.
I think, cause to the context, we pass from the fear to the reason, and manage, our life, with as target, satisfy, the primar needs...Less influenced by advertising, looking for the taste, be careful at the seasons...It may be difficult to respect day by day, but at the end, we feel in security...😊

16 years since my husband past also. I found great comfort in biting a lot of his tools to one of his closer friends. They were friends for decades so I know my husband would have approved and I think it was comforting for his longtime friend also.

I could have written that response from Coleen. I lost my love of 61 years less than 2 hours in September. One day sell, next day stay? I to feel I need clear direction but so far I love my home too much to leave. His work bench and garden stuff are where they were. I had almost 2 years to prepare for losing him. Doesn’t help.
