Nice video as always Marisa. Could you try to increase the volume on your future videos? I find this one has low volume and was hard for me to hear you.👍
The Pocket is my favorite! Modded a bunch, including replacing the voltage regulator. With the LCD drawing more power, that got me more mileage out of the AAA batteries and especially a more stable experience with flash carts.
I'm looking to install the CleanPower Regulator Board in my GBP. Do you notice a difference in battery life? I'll be using rechargeable AAA 1.5v constants as well
@@poppacdp Hey - CleanPower and anything else from RetroSix are not good products as they are a terrible company. If you want to actually 'clean up' your GBP's power, go for a replacement power board. You can build your own with something like Bucket Mouse's power board, or if you'd prefer something pre-built, check out Froggo Customs' Froggulator. Happy modding!
I only just found your channel, im always looking for more retro tech channels, this is super comfy, time to spend the day watching all the videos on this channel!
Came for the beauty, stayed for the brains 🧠 lol, cool Aesthetic videos as always, the pocket I feel is the definitive industrial design of the dmg, efficient size, pocketable, bigger\Monochromatic screen. Cool stuff 👍
I did a cool looking mod of this last week. In my version of the IPS screen you get a small OSD where you can see the settings and modify, there ist also an option to make the small frame around black instead of bright, but somehow I like the bright border more. I was surprised that there was absolutely no problem with dust. I bought another glass lense in white and it was perfect clean, also the display kept clean. My trick is to keep the surfaces downwards as long as possible, because dust particles also follow the gravity of our earth ;-) I bought two "faulty" pockets (both were fine in the end). I also recapped the one, that got the mod. It has a white board like yours with LED. The second one is some kind of yellow-green, definitely cooler, but it has no power LED, so I decided to chose the white one. Nintendo first released the GBP without power LED and after people were unhappy with this fact, they changed the boards and added an power LED. You somehow didn't put any effort into the design at all. I ordered an absolutely clear case, I had to remove something because the screen didn't fit in though I thought it would already be modded. That was a problem because it was partly in the field of vision, but I managed to polish the cuts (Sandpaper 320 - 1200 - 1500 - 2000 and Polywatch), so they completey vanished and it looks shiny and clear. I also added an amplifier for the sound and a new speaker. That really rocks! And I also changed the LED to another colour. I tried to design anything possible.
Just received this exact kit. I was super excited to install, but I realized RGRS didn’t include the wire necessary to give the screen power 🙃 just waiting on the wires I ordered. This video will be very helpful when I can finally install
I found out, I have that same display kit, you can actually cycle back a palate by holding your finger on the touch sensor, but not long enough to trigger the pixel grid. I hope this helps!
@@yourcoolunclemarisa No problem! I feel that your point still stands, though, and OSD would make palate and pixel grid options a lot more accessible. I don't feel that FunnyPlaying had a good solution here, a second touch sensor would have even been a great addition.
Ever since I started modding I've been on a quest to create a BMO device that's true to model but something is very cursed about it because every device involved has broken in one way or another. I am happy your BMO lives :') The pocket form factor is the best for BMO's body.
The original GB is one of those things I look at and go: "Gosh I'm so glad I grew up in the 2000s lol" But y'know... If I were a 90s kid, I would have definitely appreciated the Pocket over the original DMG...
Definitely has some votes in the comments here. I'll try it if I ever do another GBP. I chose the Funnyplaying this time around because I wanted to maintain the contrast wheel functionality :)
I would have to disagree with one statement: that the pocket is neglected. its treatment is nothing compared to its EL panel counterpart the Gameboy Light, which nobody ever touches or mods god forbid like it is a sin. I would love to see more content like this (and maybe a video on Gameboy Lights if you ever get one :D)
I feel like it's an unfair comparison since the light was a Japan exclusive 😅 I'll certainly do a video if I ever get my hands on one, but they're quite pricey due to the limited availability.
@@yourcoolunclemarisa If you have a P.O box I wouldn't mind sending over one, i've kinda ordered too much of them off sendico in the hopes of fixing them 😅
The last few screen protectors I've installed have me wondering if I need to invest in an air purifier. It was a nightmare when I had a cat and I'd go outside to install things.
I think the steamed bathroom trick did it for me last time I was putting a lens on. Steam up your bathroom with hot water, turn the water off, then do the install there :')
I've always wanted a GB Pocket, but as a 80's kid I want the DMG style shell. (And preferably with the power light. So weird they did run without it.) Do you hate the DMG 'cause the shell is too big for your grip?
Hi, you said there are no OSD mods available, but the top left one does have an OSD. I bought it and currently am looking for some help with soldering points for select, a and b. Also don't know the best points for gnd and vcc yet (perhaps on a voltage regulator in the corner of the board?)
I just scored two pockets that I’m itching to mod. Torn between TFT and IPS. Ideally something with a bigger screen, but only if it has perfect integer scaling. I’m also not into those borders. Any recs? (Comparison vid in your future?)
Yeah, I've got my wife's childhood GBP and I'm waiting for a laminated screen for it myself. I admit I'm tempted to do your GBP->GBC mod but I'm afraid I'd completely screw it up and just break her childhood pcb lmao
@@kazinwho I highly recommend going the brand new board route if you're going to make a pocket color. Bucket mouse, N64 freak, and skimzor all have their own boards. The PoCo I did a video on is a poor compromise in this landscape of options imo!

Uncle Marisa, your videos are always so cozy to watch. Thanks for another banger 👍
Thanks so much for watching and the kind words!

Ow, my heart. (But I still think you're cool 💜)
