My mom has been an OB nurse for over 30 years, the dad can come along for the bath and assessment after birth!!! I’m praying for a healthy and happy pregnancy!!!!
I am a Pediatric nurse and Mom of 2. We always encourage parental involvement. When my girls were born I told my husband to be with my baby. It was a special moment for him. He was able to be there when they got her cleaned up, the pediatrician did a more thorough exam, and he got to video it all so that I could see what happened. Also they put security bracelets on them so that they can’t be taken off the floor without an alarm going off and mom, dad and baby have bracelets with matching numbers. Childbirth is such a beautiful thing. My husband has a hard time with ivs and gets squeamish but did fantastic during the birth. Josh you will do a fantastic job helping katie bring your beautiful daughter into the world. Katie you are correct about Drs quickly taking care of any poopy issues
Throughout my pregnancy with my daughter I was the same way. I kept telling my husband and mother to keep an eye on her, because my brother was accidently mixed up when mom had him. (Mom knew right away that they brought her the wrong baby.) Thankfully they put her in my room, everytime she left my room with the nurse, hubby went with her. But long story short though my hospital I chosen to deliver her allowed me to keep her in the room. Hope that helps some!! Loving your little bump!

Hi Josh and Katie! I am a nursing student with a focus on Labor & Delivery. Most hospitals have a policy where baby is supposed to be in the room 23hrs/day so they will try and do everything they can at the bedside. If she did need to be taken out of the room for anything you could of course go with her. They also put an ID band on the baby right after birth that will have your name on it as well as a barcode and MRI number which will match yours to prevent any mixups. Hope this helps!

I was a labor and delivery nurse and have a little baby girl of my own. For a girl, you can request for all assessments to be done in the room. A lot of nurses prefer to take the babies to the nursery for their heel prick and do assessments or baths but they can even do that in the room with the proper supplies! Only reason babies need to leave is usually baby boys needing a circumcision
Hi Josh & Katie! Labor & Delivery nurse here. It is very rare that babies are taken out of the room in general now a days. In my hospital we don’t even use the baby nursery (like you see in the movies) anymore. If anything, baby only leave the room for certain tests, but of course you guys can go with. If baby happens to be in the NICU for whatever reason, you should be able to go see her whenever you want. Our NICU is open 24/7 for parents so they can attend every feeding since babies feed every 2-3hrs. Labor & Delivery is truly the best and I hope you have the best experience! I’m one of 5 and my dad never left any of our sides in the hospital. That’s something he was very adamant about. Even when the nurses tried to tell him no it’s fine or whatever he wasn’t having it… we weren’t going to leave his sight.
For both of my babies my husband followed them to the nursery after to do all of the assessments. At our hospital they also immediately put a band with moms name on the baby and another one that has security so the doors get locked if baby gets close to any exit.
When I had my baby I refused to let her leave my side. After I gave birth we moved to a new room and I held her the whole way there. They also offered to take her to the nursery to let us (my fiancé and I) get sleep but we kept saying no and kept her with us. They did all her bath/newborn stuff in our room with us present as well. I don’t know if it depends on the hospital but I had her in Gilbert (I live in AZ as well) so I think you should be able to do the same!

I’m a nurse and at our hospital the baby will stay in the room with you 24/7 unless she needs some sort of procedure or unless you’d request it so that you can get rest or whatever
I’m a nurse, and when my husband and I gave birth to our son my husband AND I went where ever the baby went! I was able to get right up shortly after delivery so I wanted to go as well. Not weird at all! Other parents do the same thing!

Katie & Josh, the hospital staff puts bracelets on you, the dad and the baby as soon as the baby is born (as long as there are no complications that are life threatening but if so they do it as soon as possible), so you don't have to worry about your baby getting mixed up in the hospital plus don't worry, you will know your baby. Can't wait to meet her and see you both loving her.
For the Josh staying with her at all times DO IT!!!! There’s way to many horror stories about kidnapping and mixups! My mom told her nurses when they walked in that my dad or uncle had to be with me at all times or they weren’t allowed to take me. Some nurses won’t give a fuck and lie that you can’t go or not care and do it anyway so make sure you guys keep an eye on her!!!

I'm an L&D nurse, there should be no problem with Josh going wherever baby girl goes. You should be able to have most, if not all, baby tasks be done in your room if you ask as well!

My family comes first but I've got 2 older brothers but I don't speak to my brothers at all,my brother who is only 3 1/2 yrs. older than me,his wife and 3 kids do not speak and my eldest brother has estranged himself from most of the family and so I never speak to him and my parents mainly my mom doesn't speak to me only speak to me through email and comes and sees me in the weeks sometimes and even though I'm 46 my mom treats me like I'm 5 yrs. old and that is annoying
you can bring the spark back but must be willing to compromise with the issues that caused the problems in the first place I've been with my wife 11 years and def been a lot of bad and so much good but marriage is just a life of compromise with your partner

Do you feel like what you’re describing is proof that the spark hasn’t died, or codependency? Not being able to go 5 minutes without your spouse without texting them and asking where they are sounds like codependency and a weird thing to be bragging about.

I can somewhat relate to you almost losing your mom. My daughter lost her mom ( my late wife) at 19. This was before she met her now husband.
When I was born my dad followed the nurses everywhere they took me so I’m sure they’d be fine with it!
