Try timing it so you hit 0 going westbound on I-70 in Colorado after Silverplume. I hit 0 once while still heading up the mountain on the interstate in middle of nowhere(all national forest) through the dark(no way out mile long Eisenhower tunnel) and put it in neutral and coasted 9 miles down the mountain to Silverthorne and then went the extra couple of blocks past expensive gas station to get to the cheap gas station. Best feeling ever and your video would go viral if you attempted the same. That was not in a bronco and I was stressed about engine stopping and brakes/steering losing automatic pressure heading down mountain, etc.
My sister's 2014 Mazda 3 has around 3 gallons left when it shows 0 miles left which means there's anywhere from 90-120 miles left before you run out. My '06 Explorer has about 2 gallons or so left. My mom's 2011 Explorer is actually fairly accurate when it gets down to 0. It's weird how much they can differ.
Great gas reserve especially for an offroad capable vehicle . I will try to not count on this fact and continue to relay on my fuel gauge . Good to know though.
It’s nice to know in a fuel emergency, that you have more than a few miles to get to your destination. It will make us less nervous when the warning light goes off.
Wow you make it away with this once, it's definitely not good to do. You'll be dropping that tank and putting in a new fuel pump. That will not be enjoyable
@@alpinegarage8548 correct me if I'm wrong but I believe it's the same style of fuel pump being used even today. So that fuel pump is immersed in the fuel and cooled by the fuel. It's a high pressure pump and kind of difficult to get to in most vehicles.
@@alpinegarage8548 enjoyable videos I have subscribed Just some information that may help you it probably won't cause any trouble I did run out of gas quite a few times in my race built Mustang. Not intending to but the car burned a lot of gas and sometimes I would just lose concentration when I was running my business and if I was driving it back and forth between my car lot and my home I ran out of gas quite a few times maybe three or four I even started to carry rubbing alcohol isopropyl alcohol in the backseat for self-rescue. It does work and you can buy it in the United States it wouldn't be good to run the car on that for very long but it would certainly clean out the engine and get you to a gas station. I was a car dealer for many years there so that's how I came by this information.
I had not accounted for 21mpg. I had expected closer to 14, however it would seem 2 gallons is the size of your reserve. I was a full 33 percent under in my mpg estimate.
Seriously just curious, why would you pay THOUSANDS of dollars for a vehicle and tear it up ( potentially destroying your fuel pump)? I get testing the limits, but why? For you tube?
You don’t test the limits of your gear? Then how do you know where the limits are? Running out of gas is a normal thing. If it broke this Bronco I would have a serious issue with Ford. I would like to know that now instead of when it’s out of warranty.
@Alpine Garage 25 years Active duty Army, 3 years in Iraq, trust me I test the hell out of my gear, we train to NOT run out of fuel on purpose so i do my best not to veer to far from that goal...I don't know many that intentionally run out of gas for experiment purposes, but hey, there's a first time for everything. You ran it out of gas on purpose, on video, acknowledging what you were doing and posted it on social media, you really couldn't get mad at Ford if they didn't honor the warranty... like I said in the beginning, I really was just curious and you gave an honest answer so thanks. I'm sure you have others to deal with so I'll leave you to it my man, good luck I guess.
@@BrooklynNY1979 I have at least that much experience with autos. Fuel pumps won’t fail due to lack of fuel unless they are run constantly without and overheat. Injectors are not damaged unless and until they are left with fuel in them for long periods of time without running and gum up due to ethanol. Ford doesn’t list a reserve, but we all knew there was one. I found out what that was and now everyone that watches this video knows. Thank you for your service sir.
How long did you expect the “reserve” to last and is it enough?
We originally thought 10 miles. Was actually nervous we wouldn’t get that far.
I thought 30
Around 20 I thought maybe a gallon of reserve gas
That’s crazy 40 miles over zero great video trying to watch as many videos on this channel to
Thanks man!
@@alpinegarage8548 growing up my dad always had a 79 trans am and he also had a lot of fords him and my grandfather 1970 ford F250 I remember the most

Thanks for this video. We was having the conversation about what kind of reserve do we have. Now we know.

Ha! Don’t know that I am that invested, but it’s an idea! Thanks Dan!
Thank you for the experiment! I can’t show this video to my wife though as she would say see its fine to drive on empty😂

Ha, it’s funny that 0 means 0. That’s the way it should be.
Great to know!!
I wonder if the reserve in a 2-door tank is significantly different?
That’s a good question. Let me know if you try it out.

I think I read somewhere that it has a 21.75 gallon tank!! 🤔

If the truck was years older, that could be true. Overall, running out of fuel is not all that dramatic.
