Hi. I’m from 2021. In this modern age Wii Party U has gone from a sophisticated masterpiece to *insert Poofesure screaming and breaking a wii remote* Ya’ll from 2013 won’t get it.
You forgot to mention the mini-game party modes which are focused on mini-game gameplay. For example, the unlock able Spot The Sneak, makes the mini-games feel new by adding a secret twist. My sisters and I play this so may time and play it whenever we had friends over. My Sisters don't even like video games that much! There is also Bridge Burners that has you working together and adds a nice co-op mode for those who want it. That is one of the best parts of the game and you didn't even mention it.
Having it be a luck based game means someone who sucks at mini games actually has a chance at winning, and since its a family based game its nice for children
This is quite likely the most comprehensive and educated review of Wii Party U that will be released over the next few weeks. Thanks for the fantastic review Andre, I am still going to buy this but it was great to have a better idea of what I'm getting into.
You hated way to much on this game. Have you forgot the original Wii party and Mario Party? They are EXACTLY like this but this game has interesting new twists. I can accept IGN's 7.5 rating on this game but definitely not yours.
Guys help me, i bought mario kart, now i have to choose one: Zelda (Adventure solo for me) Wii party U (To play with friends sometimes) What is worthy?
***** I guess Mario would be a nice choice, after all you can buy a Wii Party u with a motion by 45€ or something. If you buy Super Mario bros it's 50€ too, and no motion.
LifeIsARide I choose Zelda, thank you for the advice. With Mario Kart i already have a a game to play with friends, so i chose a game to play by myself :)
Can I play this game with regular Wii controllers, I know this game came with one motion but I have 3 extra more that are non-motion anyone know this issue?
I might get this game JUST for the fact that I need another motion plus controller, and the inclusion of a game I can play with friends and family certainly wont hurt.
Really depends on what your taste are, I mean Pikmin is amazing looking, and a great game, Multiplayer is cool, and the new stylus controls are top notch. However it does require strategy/planning, and does have a level of difficulty. Or a simple party game, that you will probably only play now and then.
Might pick up one of the controller bundles after the holidays. A "free" game with a Wii Remote Plus certainly isn't a bad purchase, especially if it'll be entertaining at least for a couple of play sessions.
I got this for free. It came with a Wiimote Plus. Can't complain at all at this price. Besides, it does keep you even more busy than Wii Party which made use of the Wiimote. Take Mario Party pre-8ish and you have games where you only sit on the couch. The fact that these new games do keep you quite in motion has to be appreciated a little more, especially when you have kids, because that way they get their exercise!
Hi! Your review made me think a little. I have a friend and I who would play this every once in a while. I'm a former player of Mario Party and Wii Party. Can't you just play minigames with computers if your solo? And by any chance do you know if Spot the Sneak is returning? Thanks!
Well I am actually very happy that the board games are based on luck. When I play Party Games, i don't want to strategize a lot and would rather just relax and see how it does. It is so with my friends as well. I think we will really enjoy this one.
I would love to see more branching game boards(I'm not sure how many, if any, there is), but if you get dices depending your success in skill based mini games, the game is skill based.
Hey Andre and crew I have a thought/fear for you. Ever since NDcube took over making the Mario party and making Wii Party feels like both are really starting to meld together in concepts. For example the Highway Rollers of Wii Party U looks almost exactly the same in gameplay as the Mario galaxy board in Mario party Island Tour. Strait long path and multiple dice. Do you think having NDcube working on two titles simultaneously has caused alot of ideas from one to pour in to the other?
RUclips is a very glitchy site. One of the current imperfections is the occasional comment reply not being linked to the comment to which it is responding.
you gotta do sonic man, it doesnt matter if you hate or like the game, just show ign and gamespot what a real review looks like. we're counting on you andre
One of the main problems was that they didn't being back Globe Trot from Wii Party. Globe Trot offered much mores skill and control over that game, and was my favorite iof Wii Party. Sad they didn't bring it back.
Does the inclusion of the controller affect your recommendation of whether or not to buy this game? A wii motion plus controller costs about $40, so this game is really only $10. If you ask me, a $10 game with 3 stars is pretty excellent, but I'm not sure if you had already taken that into account.
You welcome. :) Mario Party 1-7 are a big part of my childhood with my brothers.I hope the inevitable WiiU one just uses the gamepad and pro controllers...Also MOAR BUTTON MASH MINIGAMES!THERE FINGERS WILL BLEED!!! Never said me and my bro's had a good relationship because of the game lol.
Well Nintendo Land uses the Wii U Gamepad more smarter. But Wii Party U is muuuuuuuuuch bigger than Nintendoland. I would suggest Wii Party U, because it won't get boring that fast because of its size.
I just bought a wii motion plus controller and was torn on getting the one that was packed with this game. I opted against it partly on the bases of this review, although now I'm having doubts. I wonder if it would have worth it as, although I'd hardly use it, it might have been fun to play with my 7 year old niece. That said, it doesn't sound like it competes well with Nintendo land.
In the upcoming 3DS Mario Party, all the boards actually play differently; some with vehicles, some without. Too bad I don't know anyone else with a 3DS...
I don't get the comment about snakes(shoots) and ladders. Shouldn't the boards be simple given the case the game is a technically a competitive title that's rated 3+ and part of the audience is probably going to be that young so a more approachable(luck based) board be better in this case?
Oh definately. I had fun with Mario Party 9 and my friends, but it just wasnt the same. The minigames on that game are incredibly fun however. Maybe its fine they try something new, but then I would like them to atleast achieve the same level of strategy that the previous titles had.
I want Mario Party back!! And not the "all in the car" Mario Party, the ACTUAL Mario Party with huge branching paths boards and minigames at every turn!! Thats the party game Nintendo needs.
So as much as I love Nintendo, they need to stop with the party games, Mario Party, Wii Party, Wii Play, Wii sports, Nintendoland, Rabbids land, the list can go on. Not saying they're bad games, but Mario Party and Wii Sports sound the most useful right now.
Yea, the "originall" Mario Party was great, but Mario Party 9 wasn't that bad! It's was an experiment trying to create something new and fresh. Yea. But you're right. We need it to come back ;D
Please do Sonic Lost World. There's no reviews that aren't just big corporations obsessing over numbers. I also wish there was a 3DS version review. :c
Alright, well, this has at least assured me that I don't need to pick this game up myself. Maybe I'll get it for Christmas or something though. Idk, depends on if my friends are interested in playing it or not, cause with other people can be pretty fun, but if nobody's really interested then there's not really much of a point
I know this might not be much, but I STILL want to get it! Me and my family have a great time playing this game, and no, I am NOT 13 - 16 years old. Over that, I am. =P The game can be really enjoyable, when it's 4 players, instead of just 2 humans and 2 cpus.
I still think this 3DS Mario Party isnt actually Mario Party or the one we want, and I think we would propably never get it again. Clearly Nintendo thinks that 8 were enought. I just wish they could recreate the same sense of strategy in combination of luck that made the first 8 so enticing and fun, and not oversimplied everyting like thy did with 9 and seem to be doing with this latest one on 3DS.
Some games are not that great there are a lot of good ones and I disagree with you And you didn’t even mention spot the sneak which in my opinion is the best one and I still play it tho this day
Hi. I’m from 2021. In this modern age Wii Party U has gone from a sophisticated masterpiece to *insert Poofesure screaming and breaking a wii remote* Ya’ll from 2013 won’t get it.
I had a lot of fun with friends. I love this game even with the luck.
Andrew William I still play it with my family to this day . Name that face was the best .
Wii party and wii party u are the most played games for my sister and me. We love it and play it all the time!
That is one of the best parts of the game and you didn't even mention it.
you dont know what your talking about wii party is GOLDDDDDDDDD
That's kinda the point of a family based game.
Having it be a luck based game means someone who sucks at mini games actually has a chance at winning, and since its a family based game its nice for children
I'm getting this as the free game, when I pick up Mario Kart 8.
same
This is quite likely the most comprehensive and educated review of Wii Party U that will be released over the next few weeks. Thanks for the fantastic review Andre, I am still going to buy this but it was great to have a better idea of what I'm getting into.
I still have the original wii party and love it.
You hated way to much on this game. Have you forgot the original Wii party and Mario Party? They are EXACTLY like this but this game has interesting new twists. I can accept IGN's 7.5 rating on this game but definitely not yours.
I want a wii party switch.
I love this game as much as Wii Party, I wish the disc could still work... I'm sad now.
Guys help me, i bought mario kart, now i have to choose one:
Zelda (Adventure solo for me)
Wii party U (To play with friends sometimes)
What is worthy?
Have you played Wii or Mario party before? Or played Zelda before?
Wind Waker (HD) is a amazing experience, its fun, challenging, remember-able.
Can I play this game with regular Wii controllers, I know this game came with one motion but I have 3 extra more that are non-motion anyone know this issue?
you don't need wii motion plus :D
I might get this game JUST for the fact that I need another motion plus controller, and the inclusion of a game I can play with friends and family certainly wont hurt.
don't forget the new gamepad stand too! How much do you think that would cost alone?
Got mario kart should I go wit pikmin or wii u part I already got all the other games previously
Really depends on what your taste are, I mean Pikmin is amazing looking, and a great game, Multiplayer is cool, and the new stylus controls are top notch. However it does require strategy/planning, and does have a level of difficulty.
Or a simple party game, that you will probably only play now and then.
wow. a game that has sold over a million copies worldwide gets an average score.....makes me wanna try it out.
Might pick up one of the controller bundles after the holidays. A "free" game with a Wii Remote Plus certainly isn't a bad purchase, especially if it'll be entertaining at least for a couple of play sessions.

Good to know. Looks like i'll be passing on this for a little while.
1:46 *tries pushing ball* if only
Do i need wii motion plus to use this game cuz i don't have wii motion plus please help
Hi! Your review made me think a little. I have a friend and I who would play this every once in a while. I'm a former player of Mario Party and Wii Party. Can't you just play minigames with computers if your solo? And by any chance do you know if Spot the Sneak is returning? Thanks!
Becoming a big fan of your reviews. Good stuff. Keep 'em coming :D
0:54 looks like you guys are having lots and lots of fun
Will you be reviewing Sonic Lost World? I know its Nintendo Exclusive, but some people dont consider it a major Nintendo Title.
Good Review, I was looking forward to this game but I might wait to get it. Are you going to do a review for Sonic Lost World ?
looks good
I love this game! I give it a 9/10!
Have you had the chance to play the game with 4 people? The review was great (very informative), but I noticed that most of the footage was 2 player.
Well I am actually very happy that the board games are based on luck.
When I play Party Games, i don't want to strategize a lot and would rather just relax and see how it does. It is so with my friends as well. I think we will really enjoy this one.
Do you know of the Ace Attorney series? Because I'd love to see a review of that if you have the time.
is this a good game to get for Christmas?
Yes, I got this for Christmas all the way back in 2013, and it's a blast
I would love to see more branching game boards(I'm not sure how many, if any, there is), but if you get dices depending your success in skill based mini games, the game is skill based.
GX you should get back to the series you made called Ask GameExlpain because i wan to ask a question about mario 3d world for wii u
Hey Andre and crew I have a thought/fear for you. Ever since NDcube took over making the Mario party and making Wii Party feels like both are really starting to meld together in concepts.

Do you think having NDcube working on two titles simultaneously has caused alot of ideas from one to pour in to the other?
is this game work on the regular wii remote.
yes, some minigames work better with motion plus but all have very simple motion that is compatible with a regular remote
Will you be reviewing Sonic Lost World?
Is there still a spot the sneak mode? That was my favorite part of wii party! My friends and I could play it for hours
yes
*The sad thing is that I love this game but I have no brothers or sisters and my friends barely come over...*
RUclips is a very glitchy site. One of the current imperfections is the occasional comment reply not being linked to the comment to which it is responding.
***** As a free game for buying Mario Kart 8 is this worth it?
Good review, but you need to slow down. You talk way too fast and it sometimes feels as though you're rushing your points out.
you gotta do sonic man, it doesnt matter if you hate or like the game, just show ign and gamespot what a real review looks like. we're counting on you andre
One of the main problems was that they didn't being back Globe Trot from Wii Party. Globe Trot offered much mores skill and control over that game, and was my favorite iof Wii Party. Sad they didn't bring it back.
How much is this game in the states? I need a new wii mote and might just get this since it comes with a game... Just don't know what the price is.
Considering the bundled Wiimote, the barrier of interest is actually very low. For what is essentially a $10 game, this looks great.
Are there minigames where motion plus is required?
I am thinking about getting this game. I did like the Wii version. Should I get this, or should I just skip it? Anyone can give me some advice.
This game is fantastic, Fuck the haters.
AbdallahSmash026#1Fan Just like AbdallahSmash
Does the inclusion of the controller affect your recommendation of whether or not to buy this game? A wii motion plus controller costs about $40, so this game is really only $10. If you ask me, a $10 game with 3 stars is pretty excellent, but I'm not sure if you had already taken that into account.
Well, thank you for the review. Now, I know, I'll be buying it for this holiday season.
You welcome. :)
Mario Party 1-7 are a big part of my childhood with my brothers.I hope the inevitable WiiU one just uses the gamepad and pro controllers...Also MOAR BUTTON MASH MINIGAMES!THERE FINGERS WILL BLEED!!!
Never said me and my bro's had a good relationship because of the game lol.
i remember name that face being listed first on my copy, must have changed in NTSC > PAL or in an update or somethin'
He's talking about Mario Party: Island Tour for the 3DS, but MPIT has no boards like the ones you suggested, so his point is invalid.
Well Nintendo Land uses the Wii U Gamepad more smarter. But Wii Party U is muuuuuuuuuch bigger than Nintendoland. I would suggest Wii Party U, because it won't get boring that fast because of its size.
Wait. So Sonic Lost World, Ducktales Remastered Retail Edition, Super Mario 3D World, and Wii Fit U?
I really like the last one so I get this one as well.
Wii party for the wii has the best minigames. Will you forget the 3×2 matches with your friends?
I don't get the comment about snakes(shoots) and ladders. Shouldn't the boards be simple given the case the game is a technically a competitive title that's rated 3+ and part of the audience is probably going to be that young so a more approachable(luck based) board be better in this case?
to those who already owned the game, does this game required using Wii Remote Plus, or it will work just using normal Wiimote? thanks before. :D
Oh definately. I had fun with Mario Party 9 and my friends, but it just wasnt the same. The minigames on that game are incredibly fun however. Maybe its fine they try something new, but then I would like them to atleast achieve the same level of strategy that the previous titles had.

Please do Sonic Lost World. There's no reviews that aren't just big corporations obsessing over numbers. I also wish there was a 3DS version review. :c
well im still getting this FOR christmas
Can u play online? I' don't have this game
God damn i should have watched this before i bought the actual game
Table Soccer is called Fussball in English? That is quite funny, as we call it Kicker in Germany.
is it as good as the original game on the wii. and r the mini games as creative
Please review Sonic Lost World, I'm sure you are the only one who can give us a legitimate review.
Alright, well, this has at least assured me that I don't need to pick this game up myself. Maybe I'll get it for Christmas or something though. Idk, depends on if my friends are interested in playing it or not, cause with other people can be pretty fun, but if nobody's really interested then there's not really much of a point
It looks fun for casual gamers which is what my family are, if that, and I could do with a remote. Easy Xmas present!
I'm so happy there is a new wii party!!
It's a 50 USD Wii Remote with a game bundled... I didn't expect much.
Thanks!
P:S I miss the old Mario Party games.
Very unfair rating, 4/5 for me :)
Who are you talking to??
I got the same red Resident Evil Xbox
Haven't we seen already a whole bunch of party games???
Nintendo Land
WarioWare (Wii + U)
Party (Wii + U)
Mario Party (3DS, Wii and upcoming U)
Looks like a fun game.
I just went from wanting it to maybe waiting for another game
Honestly this game only costs like 10 bucks considering you get a remote, so it's great for that
yeah im buying this game looks fun.
jadames13ja was it any good
I know this might not be much, but I STILL want to get it! Me and my family have a great time playing this game, and no, I am NOT 13 - 16 years old. Over that, I am. =P The game can be really enjoyable, when it's 4 players, instead of just 2 humans and 2 cpus.
I still play Chutes and Ladders...
will u do pockmon3ds?

basically it's the same as the past party games.
Oh, right, forgot about that.
Nothing can beat Mario Party
Y do u guys always give bad ratings.
ugh, I might not getting this after watching this review, I'm afraid it will be another Nintendo Land, short lasting fun..
lol ign before this vid??
Some games are not that great there are a lot of good ones and I disagree with you
And you didn’t even mention spot the sneak which in my opinion is the best one and I still play it tho this day
Friday I get the game!!
Well then again it does come bundled with a $40 wii remote. So the game is essentially $10.
