The video did not mention north west company, which was the rival company to Hudson's Bay company and was on of the reasons why HBC started forming more trading posts farther from Hudson bay
Not even a mention of the French fur trade that took place for nearly two centuries, no mention of the Northwest Company which was a major rival of the HBC until the early nineteenth century, or the trade in sea otter pelts on the BC coast.
This is a very good video, I would like to use it in my college class, I teach in California. However, some of the closed captioning has errors. Would you be able to correct it? My tech team at my college will not approve it unless the CC works. Thank you!
It's pretty incredible some beaver hats are responsible for the development of Canada (and Manhattan too as the Dutch were sourcing their pelts from New York).
Feels like there's a lot of stuff being glossed over in this 3 and a half minute HIS-story of a trade that existed before they came here, and probably only really died off because of them.
It would be idiotic to have a beaver on the flag as they came close to being extinct. MAPLE trees provided nutrition for the new settlers and no WASP would ever tap trees & go through the process of boiling sap for days on end. 🤣
