As a grocery store employee whose job includes collecting carts, the lady's not wrong about not everybody returning carts to the shopping cart receptacle, but they're usually disabled and physically CAN'T do it (those people usually have to use the carts as a makeshift walker sadly) or simply leave it in a way that it won't roll into a car, usually half on a median or something like that.
So how do they get the cart to begin with? They obviously have to get out of the car and walk somewhere to get one, so why can’t they do the same thing on their way back to the car and return it from where they got it from. There isn’t always a stray cart close enough to their car every time they pull up.
