Winston Devines had made agreat contribution to our culture during his time , and many of the calypso which he composed , are very much alive today , and will be for a a long time in the future . We are so fortunate for such talent , He will always be remembered . R I P
Goosebumps all over! This is the most powerfull illustration of what concrete creativity and thematic organization IS. Every primary school teacher should study this programme and implement his strategies in planning and implementing the 2013 curriculum. Moreover, this interview is proof that 'to be universal you must be truly local.' Thank you, Alvin. This is gold.
This was very educational and inspiring. This gentleman was a genius. And to think I have so many songs of his. Blessings. Sad to say R.I.P. A master in his own right, equal to the Beethoven and Mozart of Classical but in calypso .
Winsford "Joker"Devine a pupil of Mount Diablo Roman Catholic School & San Fernando Technical College. A self taught musician, he composed over 500 calypsoes during a 30 year career. He was the songwriter sought after by Calypsonians. Some calypso classics written by "Joker" include Mighty Sparrow's Rope & Drunk & Disorderly (1972)- 1972 Calypso Monarch & Road March. Miss Mary (1974 Calypso Monarch), Capitalism Gone Mad (1983) , Philip My Dear (1983). For Baron- The Jammer (1983), Feeling It (1983). He was awarded the Hummingbird Silver Medal in 1988. He had a stroke in 1998, and thereafter was confined to a wheelchair. Joker died in 2020 at the age of 77.

Winsford Devygins is the best calypso composer musical impresario
Are the dates quoted the actual date of the interview..it is needed for a real throw back
He says he had an agreement with Sparrow not to claim the song, but he spent the rest of his life saying Sparrow never acknowledged him. Hmmm
He was a genius he should be given a Post humous degree for his contribution to Trinibago art form.
