- I was in London at a conference and the day after I went sightseeing. I of course watched the changing of the guards at Buckingham Palace.
I couldn't believe what I heard when they started playing... :D
Do you recognize the series whose themes they're playing? It's four of them!
I did and this was quite possibly one of the best parts of my visit to London!
Sorry for the bad quality that's all my cheap photo camera is capable of.
As Spock would say "Fascinating!"
In order: Star Trek the Original Series, Deep Space Nine, Generations, Voyager, Next Generation, and an ending flourish back to the Original
While the Queen's away....
Hearing these themes live like this must have been amazing... the band played well...just not sure how the hell anyone could just talk through this whole thing though.
It's not just that they're playing Star Trek themes. It's that they're playing them beautifully, especially the first one.
Brilliant arrangement of the themes.. Thanks for sharing!
They're playing an arrangement titled "Star Trek Through The Years"; arranged by John Moss.
Thanks for beeing awesome, Buckingham Palace Guard! Whoever chose this approach should be awarded or something..
In order of TV series they're playing the themes of 0:37: TOS, 1:19:DS9, 3:07: Voyager, and finally 3:47: TNG.
This is epicness!! May the Queen live long and prosper! ^^
That was great, hearing the Band of the Coldstreams perform the theme from Original Star Trek, Next Generation/The Motion Picture, Deep Space Nine, Voyager and even Generations! Makes me want to book a flight to London!
No doubt in honor of Patrick Stewart becoming an Officer of the British Empire.
You mean Sir Patrick Stewart??
2010 would’ve been him being knighted. The OBE came in 2001.
There's five, actually: TOS, DS9, Generations, Voyager and TMP/TNG.
That was awesome! Thanks for uploading the Buckingham Palace tribute to the CBS-owned 'Star Trek' franchise on your visit from Germany to the United Kingdom. Live long and prosper! Lebhaftlange und erweitern sich! Greetings from the United States of America!
Fantastic! I got married to one of those pieces, so it was VERY familiar!
Breathtaking. They played beautifully. Thanks for sharing
Actually, I think you'll find that the themes go as follows (with timings a bit loose):
0:00-1:10 Star Trek: The Original Series Theme
1:19-1:45 Star Trek: Deep Space Nine 9 Theme
1:45-2:34 Star Trek Generations Overture
3:07-3:40 Star Trek Voyager Theme
3:47-4:30 Star Trek The Next Generation Theme
4:30-end Star Trek TOS reprise
Mad amount of awesomeness!!
This is actually quite a good arrangement, particularly given the limitations of a military band.
To boldly go where no Guards band has gone before.......
Gotta love the Band of the Coldstream Guards.
Oh man, this TOTALLY makes my day. Pure awesomeness!
I'm just now seeing this in 2013? I must turn in my Trekkie Card.
Instant favorite! What a great job done by the Buckingham Palace Guards! I don't use twitter much, but this is worthy of its own tweet.
Liked the first theme, the second theme started correctly but then it started to sound nothing like the theme. It's funny some of the songs they play, would love to go down there and listen sometime. Thanks for uploading the vid.
This is EXCEPTIONAL!! Thank you for posting this!
Beam them up, Scotty! This is so cool!
That´s the most amazing thing i saw this week!
Love to hear the theme of the movie "Generations" in the middle. Clap Clap Clap!
Nice medley! Considering the best source for science fiction shows in America is BBC America, I'm not surprised! Just wanted Red Dwarf and Dr Who themes as well! What fun!
Believe it or not but i get the Shivers from that, i mean that Positively. This guys are GREAT ;o)
The only part I didn't like was the chuckleheads giggling in the background.
I'm glad to see the quality on the video was pretty good. I hate it when people turn their cameras around to get themselves in the shot, or when they're talking over the performance. There are so many bad videos of the Guards' performances. So thank you for a good job.
what Roseburg93 said. put Star Trek in your tags....that will get this more views.
this is AWESOME!! have favorited it and gonna share on twitter.
The Palace Guard was forced to play for a Saudi ruler known for ignoring human rights. The song they played was Darth Vader's Imperial Death March. The ruler loved it.
Very touching........Trek is back!
HELL YEAH STAR TREK!!
No doubt the guards have their weapons set to stun!
me too! How did we miss this?
Maybe this is just some extraordinary coincidence... the British Army came up with Star Trek like marching song!
They need to play the Psycho theme.
I love Star Trek....in all forms.
Back in 1994 when I had the opportunity to visit the Changing of the Guard the band played the Ghostbusters Theme
Absolutely brilliant! :)
our best buds, I love England !!!!!
Fucking great. XD Awesome! :-O
And - i really think, at least the sound quality isn't that bad. I don't really care about the picture quality, as there is not much changing so not much who really have to see. Most important is the sound quality which is good enaugh.
I think the best Star Trek soundtracks are:
- original theme by Alexander Courage
- James Horner's theme for ST-2 and ST-3
- Jerry Goldsmith's theme for ST-1 ST-5 and The Next Generation
wow even the Generations theme!
@aeckvon The theme music to Next Gen is a rework of the theme from 'Star Trek: The Motion Picture'.
queenie must be a fan!
If we make peaceful relations with an alien civilisation, is Patrick Stewart gonna be our ambassador while wearing his TNG costume?
fantastic!
ok you guys are awesome.
Fantastic!
Mindblowing!
I think the theme song from Star Trek Generations is in there somewhere also
Your photo camera did quite well, the audio quality pierces the enjoyment threshold.
@TheWMDhacker Nope, it's the Generations theme. I know Archer's Theme by heart, and that's not it. They do sound similar, though.
Thats just so friging awesome!
Simply Magic,terrific
Thanks for sharing!
@sswarowsky really everyone should know that
@aeckvon
Actually you've forgotten to mention the Star Trek: Generations theme between the DS9 and Voyager theme
That's hilarious!
goosebumps
Royal humor :D
GREAT!!!!
For non-trekkers, themes in order of appearance
Star Trek The Original Series
Star Trek Deep Space 9
Star Trek Voyager
Star Trek The Next Generation
@borg2424 I'd be tempted to go with the sound being slightly out of sync. You'd truly be amazed at some of the tunes they play. Everything from Star Trek to Kashmir to Austin Powers! Not forgetting, of course, the time honoured military music you would expect to hear. ;-)
AWESOME!!
the whole thing was made in one piece and over the years they took different parts of it for the opening music for the different shows
wow they sound great tho ;)
bout fucking time :D
To late that idea was out about 30 years ago an audience with Billy Connelly
awesome! I wonder if they've ever played Journey.
@cteran70 she already has
What other American series themes would be played in England other than that of the most popular series of all time>
I love being English
@willtoulan Haha, thanks very much :D
live long and prosper :)
🌟
TOS, NG, DS9, V, any others?
England FTW!
what the hell are you talking? The Enterprise theme was the best of all
@sswarowsky As a Trek fan I would be laughing as well ....
The Queen is a trekkie? XD
I think you need to get Star Trek into your tags or title. Then this could get millions of hits. Seriously.
First Contact was a movie, not a series.
I've always regarded the Brits as dry and stiff upper lipped. This changed my opinion.
Good stuff! Live long and prosper!
someone gag the hyena
Where the hell was First Contact?
You laugh like Beavis and Butthead
Star date .....
Etc Etc
Except for the disrespectful talking while the music was playing I gave this a thumbs up. Next time not off the chatter and show some respect for your country.
+John Lane What? I've never heard that it's disrespectful to talk. It's not like quite talking is going to drown out the band.
Howie Lane Show some gratitude mate. They recorded this and put it up for you to watch, and all you do is come here and give them a telling off. In MY eyes YOU’RE the one being disrespectful.
I'm VERY glad they left out the Enterprize them because that was AWFUL.
this is so nerdy
I am not sure I'm buying this. Sounds like a hoax as the conductor seems to be off on a lot of notes, unless the sound itself is off. I also noticed "skips" in the video and the music did not miss a beat. Hmmmmmmm?
Whoever is filming stop talking
sure if your into low budget cinema.
@World0fWhorecraft Take your own advice dude...Trekkies get laid far more regularly than trolls do! :)
This is actually quite a good arrangement, particularly given the limitations of a military band.
