the reason not to is that bread goes stale faster in the fridge, this is due to the cold fastening the crystallization process of the starch in the bread.
freezing on the other hand is cold enough that it slows the process properly.
to keep your bread nice longer keep it wrapped up in room temperature.

Bread, when kept in the fridge, accumulates additional condensed moisture every time you open it. This results in making your bread's taste and texture unpleasant and will cause it to develop mold quickly if accidentally left out. Sliced bread has, since it's inception, included some basic preservatives, but even home-made bread lasts days if properly stored.
The refridgerator will actually draw moisture out of the bread and cause it to go stale faster. You can freeze bread, but it's best to store bread at room temperature while in use.

The bread thing could be more income based than racial, to be honest. My grandparents did that when I was growing up. They even froze some leftovers. Bread kept longer. I've started to do it recently because cost wise I get a full loaf, yet I don't eat it in time unless it's in the fridge (or even frozen).
Tbh i dont eat enough bread fast enough so that's the main reason why I wanna put it in the fridge or freezer

@@Maazz_yt The reason you don't put bread in the fridge is because the cold air in the fridge makes it go stale faster. So largely it depends on how you use your bread. Freezing doesn't do the same thing because it actually stops the process that would allow it to become stale.

About the Bread in the fridge, as a white dude;
I used to do it, cause it does make the bread stay fresh longer.
However;
It also makes the bread "sweat" so the bottom may get soggy and the rest a bit dry, so I no longer put the bread in the fridge.
Besides, I've found that my homemade bread tends to last at least a week on the countertop before it starts going bad, which is more than I can say for storebought bread.
And it tastes better too.
So, as someone who used to work with bread, you rarely refrigerate it unless you want it to harden. You either keep it at room temperature, or freeze it.
I suspect refrigerating bread might make it better for things like baking and toasting making it crispier, it may also make the bread fall apart easier, IDK i never tested it, was just told not to do it or it will get hard and we'd have to toss it.
To clarify, as a rural white family, we used to use the fridge, until i started working with bread at my first job, now its counter, or freezer.

Commercially made bread does not need refrigerated. It will eventually go bad either way, but putting it in the fridge, taking it out to use and putting it back in the fridge will actually cause condensation (moisture) to form inside the bag with the bread, making it form mold quicker... No thanks. Also, fridge space is valuable for more important food, therefore the bread can go on a shelf.

i noticed yes putting bread in a fridge or freezer makes it last longer, BUT once oyu take it out of the fridge it gets moldy WAY faster.
when it comes to bread in the fridge it comes down to logic;
if you only use it for toast, that's fine as it last longer, but in the fridge the texture changes and goes firm.
