@@lukegibson9410 I disagree. In the next two movies Celine is still very much the same person that she was. She just has problems living with her own insecurities and guilt over the fact that she and Jesse couldn't have had the life that they wanted to have after having met one another because neither of them chose to exchange contact information. In the second movie they both get a second chance at love and they decide to take it. In the third movie Celine while clearly in the wrong expresses to Jesse her fears, frustrations, and pain at 1. Having the fear that he would leave her for someone more beautiful and 2. Wishes that things could have been different and they could've met up 6 months later. The ending of the third movie was great in that Jesse assuaged her by telling her that he would never cheat on her and while they both made mistakes in the past their love is real and they both just have to learn to live with what happened.

Luke Gibson are you going to copy and paste the same dull comment all the time? You missed the entire point of this movie and their conversations clearly.
They are two young people in their 20’s travelling, talking about the concept of their lives and where it may be heading. The point is that they’re not “special” or unique or distinct in any way, the point is that they could be any ordinary person like you or me discussing mundane, every day life in yes, an often romanticised way.
It’s what happens when a secretly romantic cynic meets a romantic yet cautious individual.

I think this scene is unbelievably brilliant from a screenwriting/character development perspective. We've been watching these two people do nothing but talk for the entire movie thus far, then they do this little game and all of a sudden we get this radically different perspective on both of them as individuals, their connection, and on the events we just watched. And it's so incredibly simple and creative and playful; there's no incident that starts this, no other characters become involved (they're only referenced), but it feels like their whole dynamic cracks wide open right here. Their last layers of posturing, charade, and self-protection all start to shed. So incredible. I love it.

Also although that might be my opinion, at the very end first him then her discover that long lasting love is a compromise of both happiness and unhappiness rather then a perpetual feeling of joy.
