If its a malayalam song composed by Devarajan. Dakshinamoorthy, Raveendran.. Mostly they or surely they will be based on a Raga and mostly a penatatonic like mohanam, hindolam, abheri, arabhi, madyamavathi etc..so mostly we cant go by western scale notes as per root note.. There can miss many notes or can come sharps of the western scale.. If it is johmson, Ousepachan there is good chance that it can be based on scale but not necessarily.. For example moham kondu nhaan by johnson is raga Jog.. Mandara cheppundo is E minor.., "Theeram thedumolam" by Ousepachan is Nattai ragam.. The more slides the song has in notes they mostly will be based on Raga.. This is my understanding ..
