Before regularly visiting Thailand, I thought the only clean restrooms were going to be inside the major shopping centers, but I was so wrong! Everywhere you go in Thailand, I find bathrooms and restrooms very clean! I also love how the toilet stalls are completely sealed, unlike the ones in the US with the large gaps between the panels. You can do your business inside the toilet stalls without worrying about others watching you through the gaps. Even the nicer shopping centers have Japanese-style bidets to wash your bum. I've stopped at many gas station rest stops along the highways and the restrooms are always clean and constantly maintained by cleaning ladies. One of my biggest surprises was a single-room restroom at an MRT station (Bangkok subway) that was so clean you could eat off the floor!

People in this region are sensitive to comparisons. Thais are not narrow-minded and are willing to listen and improve on the negatives. You will see a lot of diversity from what you have experienced yourself, and that becomes something that many groups of people are not happy with and Thailand is often attacked.

  • @Ajhmee

I'm Thai and I like to know how the world see my country. But Thailand has so much diversity, some people may not like to be compared with others. We have all the political spectrums from super conservative (ultra royalist) to very progressive. Some may not like your content, but I can say many of us like your content too, so keep doing your great work.

Sweet and sour everywhere you go but this is your job and if you speak the truth, no shame in it and for those that don't like it, get a new job as a blogger/vlogger or influencer.

Good to hear in-depth insights from another Asian American who's new to Bangkok. I've been here a long time (over 10+ years) so a lot of the smaller details that you've outlined like "woman janitor cleaning a bathroom" gets overlooked as it's just a normal thing to me. Here are some additional comments...
7:55 You gotta practice being chill on the back of the motorbike (don't tense up your body). If you notice how the Thai's do it, they don't hold onto anything. Most of the time they're just on their phones or something. Just relax your body.
10:40 It depends on the gym. At my gym, I pay 600 thb per month (~$18 usd). It's downtown (Asoke/Sukhumvit area), modern equipment, Air Con in a modern building, etc. There are other gym brands (like Fitness First Platinum) that are way up there in price though.
11:21 The Chinese EV's here are cheap because China and Thailand have goverment subsidies and agreements (can Google this). Also, Thailand is 1 of the leading auto manufacturing countries in the entire world. There is no shipping. A lot of the Chinese EV brands (BYD, Deepal, GAC, Neta, etc) all have factories in Thailand now.
12:30 True about the levels of fashion. In Thailand, before Zara/Uniqlo, you've got:
    1) Low quality stuff at a night market and/or daytime market (ie. Chatujak market)
    2) Online shopping for cheap clothes (Shopee / Lazada)
    3) Cheap fashion at malls where you can bargain price (ie. MBK or Platinum mall)
    4) Then you reach Zara / Uniqlo level.
19:25 There are a lot of testers. But I see it as a positive thing. For example, when I was visiting home (DMV area) and NYC back in October, pretty much all the merch in Target and CVS had to be locked up behind glass (to prevent theft). Pretty embarassing to be honest. In Thailand, I'm not saying theft doesn't happen, but it's not as big of a problem like it is in the west.

28:15 - I think the best way to respect the Thai culture or Asian culture this way is to do vs where Thailand is just better. For example, Thailand better than America in cheaper food, better rail/train station, better hospitality, better medical care and prices, better internet, better condos. These are all true things that can show how good Thailand is while encouraging US to step up and do better.

@@PFG888it's not just for Thailand. Generally, if you're staying long term in a country, then it's best not to comment about their politics or govt. There are some countries which have laws on speaking against the govt or in the case of TH, the Thai royal family (lese majeste law).

I really enjoy you and Andrew’s video topics recently and can see the maturity in the content as well compared to years ago.
As with most south eastern countries, I noticed it is the “young to maybe at most middle aged group who are out and about. One doesn't see many of the older and senior citizens out and about unless they are still making a living doing blue collar work. Would you be able to do some interviewing with the “older crowd” and see their input on the modern/westernized Bangkok society. Same with couples with young children and schooling there. Is Bangkok good for raising a family or is it like the US where the suburban areas are better for raising children.
I believe your channel will grow even more if you cover all age groups and interests.
Thanks for sharing your experiences there and you are definitely by no means hurting anyone in Thailand by comparing their lifestyles and culture to North Americans, Australians or Europeans. You are just stating the facts and sharing what you see and your experiences. Keep the great content coming!

Thailand does not have the system like Singapore where you need to buy a licence plate before being allowed to buy a car. You can buy a car new or second hand and then have it registered, paying a few hundred baht. That's all. Singaporean must pay at least 50 times of that for a right to own a licence plate/car. FYI, vaporing cigarette is illegal in Thailand for both consumers and sellers, period. But it spreads gradually among the young. Meanwhile cigarette smoking is declining yearly and there is no cigarette tray available anywhere. Smoking is prohibit in public places such as govt office, school, bus, train, plane, parks. Fines are heavy by Thai standard. Cigarette ad is banned and display of cigarette is not allowed. It is kept in drawers and you must specifically ask 7-11 staff to buy them.

Please don’t!! I lived in Sài Gòn for for 3 yrs recently and the dating seen is 1000 times better than the US. Enough said. But then again, I’m also Việt, speak the language, and moving back to the motherland to rediscover my ethnicity is important for personal growth considering how abruptly we had to leave due to the war. But for the ones that go to SE Asia that aren’t SE Asians, like David Fung, ChinaMac etc…it’s VERY Cringeworthy!! SE Asia is full of perverted sex tourist who come and make a mockery of the country, a mockery of themselves, and bring a bad image to Asian-Americans as they try to date locals. There is already plenty of videos on this topic on RUclips, I hope David doesn’t. He can do it in China…his own motherland, just don’t do it in Thailand or Vietnam unless your Thai or Việt, as it comes off really cringeworthy.
