The included Kia charger can be reset to charge faster than default charge rate, you probably were charging at 6 amps if it took 16 hours. The charger comes set at 6 amps but it can be raised to 12 amps and will charge the battery in about 10 hrs. On the control brick, depress and hold the button down and the indicator light willl flash. Multiple presses will increase the display in increments of 2 up to 12 amps. depress the button at the charging amperage and it will be set at the new rate. They offer a variable charging rate because some charging circuts may not handle the load and could trip the breaker at the power source.
I suppose if you need to charge faster then the 220V charger is great but I've been using the Kia 120V charger and just plug it in when I get home after my 15-20 miles daily drive. My car is getting well over 100mpg now (2024 Niro PHEV) .

How do you come up with this MPG estimate? I will be driving 120 miles per day all highway. I'm trying to figure out if getting the PHEV over the regular HEV is worth it?

Originally planning on leasing a 2024 Hyundai Kona (ICE or EV) but may NOW be reconsidering and will be looking at the Kia Niro (SX Touring, of course)!! Having a PHEV is the best of both worlds, as I don't have to worry about finding a charging station upon my arrival to my destination down to the family's shore house (it's a condo), or other trips where I may not be able to plug in the charger (like the airport parking lot). Meanwhile, by the time I take delivery of either Kona EV or Kia Niro PHEV, they both will have either converted their charging to NACS, or provide adapters to use NACS charging (at an extra price, I'm sure). Either way, EV or PHEV, I will get a nice tax credit from both my State and local electric utility company. Sweet. That being said, I still like the Kona better (until I test drive them, of course) for the larger cargo space and nicer interior layout.
