For me the best band to come out of the 80s. Their debut album Crocodiles is almost punkesque, and still stands up today. Try the songs crocodiles and Villers terrace from that. Then they got big and songs like the cutter and back of love put them into the big time. Ocean Rain is a wondefrul album, if a little over produced. The songs Ocean rain, Silver and seven seas also worth a listen. They have also had some more recent albums out and have some hidden gems on them.

Great band, 'Echo and The Bunnymen' this is one of their weakest tracks in my opinion.
Tracks which I recommend by them are:
    "Killing Moon",
    "Over The Wall",
"Pictures on My Wall" (The 'Zoo Records' version if possible),
    "The Back of Love",
    "Bedbugs and Ballyhoo",
    "Do It Clean",
    "Lips Like Sugar",
    "The Cutter",
    "Silver",
    "Never Stop",
    "Villiers Terrace",
    "Show of Strength",
    "A Promise",
    "Ocean Rain",
    "All That Jazz",
    "Zimbo",
    and of course,
    "People Are Strange".
There are many more but these are good ones to continue with.

I saw Echo and the Bunnymen live three times back in the 1980s. I was a bit obsessed with them back then. They were a superb live band. In my opinion, Pete de Freitas was one of the most expressive drummers of that era and Will Seargent's guitar work is simply mesmerising.
    My favourite tunes are:
    Killing Moon
    Back of Love
    Ocean Rain
    The Cutter
Over the Wall (I was in Berlin in 1988)
    Bed Bugs and Ballyhoo
Although not necessarily in that order

Yay! Okay, I’ve remembered. The song is called Slow Crash by 32Crash. I’ve always thought the he sings something about cauliflower mash (presumably part of his Atkins diet), but I do concede that it could be an epic case of a misheard lyric fail that Peter Kay would be proud of.

I sing this song on the karaoke , they are a legendary alternative band in the 80's and 90's from Liverpool, and in America alternative bands were mainly ignored in the U.S., and Canada follows the U.S. , so this is why North Americans missed out , i think North American people like bands like the Bunnymen but the record companies had other ideas .

Nice song. The Bunnymen are good at layers of instruments (as were the Waterboys around this time). But i do think the drum machine has always let them down slightly. May i suggest one of their peers - Julian Cope with Trampolene or World Shut Your Mouth? Added bonus - real drums.

Echo and the Bunnymen easily my favourite band of the 80s
Elements of surrealism in the lyrics as well as the videos..
    "Villiers Terrace "
"The Cutter" "Silver" "Back of Love"
The Whole " Ocean Rain" Album
"Rust" "Lips Like Sugar" "Nothing Ever Lasts Forever"
My take on this is the names at the beginning are of servicemen lost in the war (probably sailors.. The band is from Liverpool ) Water and The sea are recuŕring themes for Ian McCullough (Lead singer and songwriter) Also relationships and introspection.
They do fun stuff too though "The Game" is about football (soccer)
As with all good poetry/lyrics multiple meaning can be at play
This song is sort of cynically anti war and bad politicians but also about trust in a failing relationship.

The dancing horses, "headless and all alone," are statues. In a Songfacts interview with lead singer Ian McCulloch, he explained: "It's about the way people would sooner look at statues than themselves. We revere things that tell us about ourselves. It's that thing of how we think art is very important. A life without art, who knows what that would be like? We think the Mona Lisa is this thing that's valuable, when something else isn't."
