When I graduated from high school my mother bought me youth dew perfume for the prom and she said that I was now a lady and she introduced me to fragrances and fashion and I never forgot about that. I am now 71 years old and I still think about that. I had a wonderful mother and I still miss her every day of my life.
What a beautiful story! I miss my grandmother who was like a mother to me. She always had this lovely scent of soap around her and indeed she loved fragrant soap. She was also a wonderful mother to me and I miss her too. Since she passed over to spirit I have noticed this soap fragrance around a few times and it instantly reminded me of her.
A perfume that personally takes me back to my childhood is Estee Lauder Pleasures. My mom wore it when I was in middle school and I would sneak in her room and spray some on before school lol. I ended up finding it about a year ago at Macys and HAD to get it. I wore it one day and my mom said “I know that smell!” Lol
Thank you for this. I love fragrance, too. I am 63 and remember all those old perfume ads. I remember the 80's was a very potent perfume time. Poison by Dior was very popular. Paloma Picasso and Chloe were also popular. The 80's seemed to smell of those fragrances. My sister introduced me to Youth Dew in the 70's. I am now a perfume snob. Thank you so much for this. You brought back some fun memories.
Ugh, this makes me think of my mama rest her soul. She loved Giorgio and always had a bottle since I can remember. She passed away two years this July. I still keep a bottle to remind me of her. Thank you for the happy memories. It's funny because the perfume was actually banned in certain places because people said it was so overwhelmingly strong, which if you knew my mother it made sense why she liked it hahahaha. To me it smells like the most beautiful woman in the world in my eyes. My mama
Anybody remember Avon’s Sweet Honesty? My grandmother used it when it first came out as a 16 year old she said she was so happy that there was finally a young person’s perfume. Avon did a remake of the classic bottle and she bought it but never used it so she gave it to me, I love the scent so much!
What an accurate and amazing list. So glad to see Giorgio included, which on my mum in the 80s made me think she was the most elegant woman. I would have loved to see Samsara by Guerlain as well, but Guerlain is already hogging the limelight! This was absolutely lovely and nostalgic, Laura, and the videography, posters and vintage bottles were gorgeous. Thank you! 💖
I went to Pittsburgh on a business trip in 1988, and went in Saks 5th Avenue for the only time in my life. I discovered Paris perfume, by YSL. I still wear it. It has become too heavy for daytime for me, but I still wear it at night. Just suits. My niece loves it, it’s my “signature”. 🥰
Great video. I’ve been wearing Chanel No. 5 for 50 years. I have never found anything I loved more. Today’s Chanel has lost a bit of depth and staying power due to a change in formula I think but still divine
I find the reformulations of fragrances absolutely tragic! When you've adored a perfume for many years, you know instantly that something about it has changed. I wish companies did not alter their perfumes! 😕
Wow this brings back so many memories as I wore so many of those perfumes as did my Mom and Grandmother. Just to smell some of them again would be wonderful.
Ann Stevens I loved Paris! Back in the 80’s I had a bottle of the perfume that slipped from my hand and spilled all over the hardwood floor of my bedroom. Tragic, but the room smelled fabulous for a very long time!
Awww YSL Paris my first perfume i still love it ❤️ along with the original Dior Addict, and i wish Fendi would re release their original Fendi perfume it was packaged in deep yellow box with black writing ❤️😊
My daughter and I were out shopping several years ago, I had her smell Happy by Clinque, a perfume I had worn years ago. I asked her if she liked it.....her comment surprised me. "I love it, it is the smell of my childhood." I love your history about the perfumes and the time periods they came from......amazing to think of all the women that have worn them before........
I just LOVE seeing those vintage ads and glorious perfume bottles! Shalimar is a favorite of mine, and I wore Charlie in high school and college. Evening in Paris was given to me for Christmas, when I was around 13 years old, by the couple for whose son I babysat. Great memories!
I loved the old version of "Roma" by Laura Biagiotti. Absolutely wonderful perfume that was, it was launched in the 1980's when I was a teenager. Unfortunately the house of Laura Biagiotti sold out to Unilever and they changed the formula, it's just not the same and in fact I can't stand the new version of it. Everybody who remembers the old version says the same! Another great 1980's perfume was "Loulou" by Cacharel, this is still available and still lovely.
I used to adore Miss Dior by Christian Dior. . .until a friend bought me Diorissimo. I love it and it features a top note of lily of the valley. Lily of the valley was Christian Dior's favorite flower. Mais oui!
Great list!!! This brings back a slew of memories for me. I'm 70, went to high school in the 60's. I used to wear several of these in the 60's, 70's, & 80's. I have to say that now they don't smell nearly as good as they used to! Some, nothing like they used to! Formulas have been altered and changed. Some of my personal favorites back in the day were: Chantilly, Wind Song, My Sin by Lanvin, Memoire Cherie by Eliz.Arden, Most Precious or White Shoulders by Evyan.
Love love this video! I'm a perfume nerd. My mum's signature scents was Chanel No5 and Miss Dior. I have those in my collection, I take a sniff and think of my beautiful mother.
Thank you for this! I learned so much! I remember my Mom and her Youth Dew! It was really strong, but I kind of liked it because I associated it with my Mom going out in the wintertime all dressed up. She also wore Shalimar and L'aire du Temps, which my brother brought back from Paris for her. Perfumes really bring back so many memories. I appreciate the research you have done for this video!
@Jann. That's exactly what I thought! Brings back memories! My mother also had Estee Lauder....none of my friends had it and I would wear it when going out in HS! NOW, I can't wear too much fragrance, because of allergies. Depends on the day, I guess! Right now, I love 'Angel' and 'Boucheron', and ' LaVie est Belle'.
Jovan Musk was huge, along with Skin by Bonnie Bell in the 70s. Opium was a huge success starting in 1978😊 this video was great fun, lots of memories ❤️
This was a lovely video, obviously well researched, and put together. I like the fragrances with the accompanying photos/ advertisments. I would enjoy seeing another video of this nature. PS- You have some nice perfumes there. :)
There’s not many perfumes that are as dramatic and elegant as Shalimar. Frida Kahlo wore it, flappers wore it. Perfect perfume for dramatic cinema and refined women. Bergamot, resins, and powdery facets.
Thank you Laura! This was most enjoyable! I always look forward to getting home from work at night and checking to see if you have a new video! I appreciate your hard work and research that you do. I have learned a great deal from you. Thanks again!!

Now, because of allergies, I can't wear as much! Another big fav of mine was 'Ciara', I think it was very popular for awhile. Maybe in the '70's. Thanks for this, I enjoyed it! Like I said, great memories! 💝. Oh I also loved ' My Sin'.
Wonderful presentation! I enjoyed this video very much!! Please do more like this one! I wore Tabu and Charlie, Shalimar and Youth Dew through the years! Thanks for your efforts to present and describe these lovelies!
What a lovely an well done video! You always do such wonderful research on your subject matter. Perfumes are a weakness of mine and at some point in life have owned several of the fragrances you showcased. However, Giorgio... I was an adult during the 1980s and that scent was everywhere. You would smell it on women coming and going for 2 city blocks. Giorgio became so obnoxious that while riding an elevator with a lady who doused herself in it, I wanted to grab her by the shoulders and say, ' Honey, please ease up on the Giorgio.'
Oh my I really agree with that statement. I worked in SICU in the ‘80’s and this woman (Dr.) resident drenched herself in it. That smell lingered long after she made her rounds. Ugh.

Thank you Laura for another great video- I would have commented sooner, but I guess in a small way, I was depressed from realizing how ruined these gorgeous scents are now. It really gets to me how perfection and beauty, were purposely destroyed. As I've stated before, younger women will never be able to smell the original formulas- so I guess most of you will accept them as they are, but their true glory, is gone-
My mum still wears Charlie, she also loves Anais Anais which my nanna also wears. I remember an Avon Perfume called Sweet Honesty that reminds me of growing up. You should do a 70s/80s/90s video.
I still love Sweet Honesty. My mom got me some when I turned twelve. I haven't worn it forever, but when I see it or smell it, it just brings me back to that time of innocence. I used to have a solid version that I rarely wore, but I would just smell it every do often. It always brings me a sense of comfort. It's like a a security blanket.
I was 12 when Sweet Honest came out and I LOVED IT... About 10 years ago I bought a bottle through Avon online and like so many classics, it too has been seriously watered down.
Love Chanel #5, but Coco Mademoiselle is my favorite scent. My mother would spray Tabu on me as a kid in the eighties. Youth Dew was my grandmother's favorite perfume. Love that scent! Georgia Beverly Hills can still be purchased at Walmart. The scent lasts all day.
I've worn a few of these.Shalimar was a favorite. My Mum wore Tabu,Wind Song and Charlie.I remember Wind Song in a crowd shaped bottle. When I was little and she put a little on me,I felt very grown up
My mom had no 5 as a gift. She thought the world of this huge bottle of perfume. She felt like the queen. Back in the 1960 you had to go to France to get it. So it was a very special gift
This has been so much fun watching my Grandmother and some of her daughters wore Shalamar and Youth Dew I'm 58 and remember when Charlie came out I have a bottle of Tabu I am finding myself enjoying the older classic fragrances Quality and Elegance never go out of style. My goal is to purchase a bottle of Channel Thank you for sharing the history as well
Loved this video, scent has such a strong memory sense! Really enjoyed listening to you for a bit longer than usual, your voice is so calm and soothing!! 💖
I enjoyed this very much, Laura! I love perfume, reading about old perfumes and getting lost on Fragrantica, adding perfumes to my "to try" lists. 😆 How have you gotten your hands on these lovelies? I loved your pretty set-up, too! Great work! Thank you for highlighting the beauty of the past so accurately.
The video was wonderful, I love vintage things, and perfume especially I to collect the pretty designed bottles, I'm going to look into getting some of them. ❤❤❤
20 is a great job! Yes I have and love my Vintage fragrance collection and know these are highly collectable classics that never go out of style I find mine on ebay. I do admire how you can find those matching cardboard ads.
I really enjoyed this! I’m old enough that I wore some of these in the day, others I’ve not heard of. Now I just wish I had the money to buy them all...sigh😊 Thanks so very much for sharing ❤️
Great video! Thx for the tip on Vol de Nuit. I didn’t know that this perfume was inspired by the novelist Antoine de Saint-Exupéry and his book Night Flight. (He is the author of the famous book “The Little Prince”.) You have inspired me to try this perfume and to also pick up the book. 😀
Hello Laua what beautiful video I actually love all your videos. Its so relaxing today I will make some milk tea and curl up to some of your videos.Thank you for making these I proudly subscribe.
This was lovely to watch as a perfume connoisseur. But why has no one mentioned Babe by Faberge? That was my favourite during my teen years and I think it's a shame that it was discontinued.
I love your videos, and especially this one. It certainly took me back. I am a perfume junkie and owned about all of them at one time or another. My perfume love started when I was about 11 years old, and my mom received a large bottle of Ma Griffe from her employer as a birthday present. She did not care for it ; she was a Tosca woman. However I sneaked a splash for many years. When we moved about 9 years later, the Ma Griffe disappeared. I imagine she gave it away. Blue Grass was the first Cologne I bought from money I earned myself. I thought it smelled heavenly. And right now, I have Shalimar, Vol de Nuit, Mitsouko and Tabu in my collection. Oldies but goodies.
Excellent video. I have several of these perfumes. I have both youth dew and tabu, they are often compared, I want to like youth dew more, but I really prefer tabu. I wear the Charlie and simply adore it. Inexpensive lasts all day, and I get compliments. Love Giorgio, actually been thinking of gifting myself for Mother's Day, possibly the red. I have always wanted to try J oy , so expensive. Thanks again, I will rewatch
My great aunt and forever style muse wore Estée Lauder perfume and nobody could sway her to try any other brand! I’m more partial to Chanel perfumes but I definitely want to get more into Estée Lauder and Guerlain perfumes. These brands are timeless and it’s wonderful knowing they’ve stood the test of time and are still thankfully available!
I had so many of these fragrances. I love perfume. Chanel #5 is one of my favorites. Shalimar too. By far one of the most compliments I have ever received on a perfume has to be Youth Dew. It’s very strong and you only need a drop of it, but I’m always asked what I’m wearing when I have it on. It has to dry down to get the true scent. This was a great video.
Thanks for such a wonderful trip down perfume memory lane. My mother used to have Youth Dew and as teenagers my sister and I called it Puke Dew because it was so strong. I would love to see a video on the 1990’s and 2000’s maybe up to 2010. Will definitely subscribe.

I love fragrance content, thanks a lot !
Diligently taking notes so I can purchase these perfumes! Love the aesthetic of this video and the historical context behind the perfumes!
Thank you! I also linked them in the description box
My mum still wears Charlie, she also loves Anais Anais which my nanna also wears. I remember an Avon Perfume called Sweet Honesty that reminds me of growing up. You should do a 70s/80s/90s video.
Anais Anais is a great fragrance -- it just won't last very long on me. Sweet Honesty, that was on every girl in junior high. Very coming-of-age :D
@@evadedenbach1226 I got my first bottle of Sweet Honesty at age 12 also💛
Love Chanel #5, but Coco Mademoiselle is my favorite scent.
When I was little and she put a little on me,I felt very grown up
I love Shalimar too, it is so mysterious.I feel like it takes me back in time to the 1920s
Because Wind Song stays on your mind :)
maldenom ah, that’s why I can’t seem to forgot you. Lol
I just brought Tabu , it’s very similar to Incenses! I love it!
I know it was about 20th, but the 4711 is just gourgeous parfum! I love your videos, just love it!
Hi Jessy You can still buy 4711 I get mine from Amazon it reminds me of my mum xx
I NEED TO BUY THEM ALL!!! but my favorite perfume that my mother owned is Chanel number 5, it smells amazing and it lasts long on my skin!
Love Chanel No 5 too
My mom had no 5 as a gift.
My goal is to purchase a bottle of Channel Thank you for sharing the history as well
AMAZING video, your presentation was exquisite 👏🏽👏🏽
Oh laura i am green with envy from your perfume collection! I loved this video and added several new must have perfumes to my own collection.
Wonderful presentation Laura Jane
Wind Song is my favorite classic perfume to wear! Hello from Tyler Texas!
Just ordered a sample of the Tabu . Sounds right up my alley as far as scents. Super excited to try it!
Loved this video, scent has such a strong memory sense! Really enjoyed listening to you for a bit longer than usual, your voice is so calm and soothing!! 💖
Very educational Laura...thank you
I enjoyed this very much, Laura!
My grandmother used to love wearing a perfume called "April Showers" she said she used to love wearing it all the way till they discontinued it.
I have heard of that too bad it is discontinued.
The video was wonderful, I love vintage things, and perfume especially I to collect the pretty designed bottles, I'm going to look into getting some of them. ❤❤❤
@@jakobcordova2389 Thank you! I love the vintage bottles too! I will keep these forever
20 is a great job! Yes I have and love my Vintage fragrance collection and know these are highly collectable classics that never go out of style I find mine on ebay. I do admire how you can find those matching cardboard ads.
Nice, I know I have slowly built this collection and appreciate them so much
@@Laurajaneatelier Someday you can make a video on all your vintage fragrace collections!

Thank you for your videos , they are very interesting and informative
My Grandma wore Shalimar until I was in high school. I always smell it at the department store bc it smells sooooo good!
Ya! Luv ur content ♥️💕💞
Thanks so much Valerie
I really enjoyed this! I’m old enough that I wore some of these in the day, others I’ve not heard of. Now I just wish I had the money to buy them all...sigh😊 Thanks so very much for sharing ❤️
i have like half of them...and almost all of the rest are in my Wishlist! that was fascinated !
That’s amazing! I need to read the book too
Hello Laua what beautiful video I actually love all your videos.
Such a great, well researched video. Thank you! 💕
Thanks Sari
Dior Hypnotic Poison should join this list. 💜💛💚💙💖
Lou Lou and Anais Anais by Cacharel of the 80's is also iconic.⭐🌟☄🌠💝
Youth Dew has been my go-to perfume for many years and I love it as it has so many spices that I love. You have made a great video - great job!!!
I prefer Jasmine absolutely 😉
L💙ve the scent. 😊💛
I enjoyed this video, I remember Halston and oscar de la renta was popular in the 80s.
Venus Taureau love Chanel perfumes as well. You might like Modern Muse by Estée Lauder, it has a few similarities with some Chanel ones.
I've never liked the smell of Youth Dew!
The evening in paris perfume is calling my name 😂😍
I love Shalimar. My sister gifted it to me when I was in high school. I still wear it today.
It’s so good!!
