When you brought up hating Traxxas for rtr vehicles I basically shouted “YES!!”. I was heavy into the hobby from 1989-94 and got back into it around 2007 and when I went to the hobby shop I kept wondering what happened to all the build kits. It was apparent that Tamiya was the only one that was still offering a huge selection of build kits and I was so bummed that everyone else had basically gone exclusively rtr. The build was such a huge part of the experience and it was sad to see that going away! Luckily I’m a Tamiya fanboy so I wasn’t too terribly affected.
Yeah it really is a shame that so many kits are RTR. For me the build was the amazing bit. A lot of my RC4WD's were kits but that was just not possible with some of my cars. I really dont like that.
Finding myself resurrecting my oldies, during this crazy pandemic, that I can not part with. Came upon your channel while searching the web for various parts and upgrades. Decided to take my 1980's Blackfoot and bring it back to life with some vengeance!!! Love the AMPRO products and your passion of the hobby!!! Now I need to explain to my wife where all the money is going and why packages keep getting delivered everyday
In the late eighties I was in grade school, and had a Tamiya Grasshopper 2 Super-G as well as a Tamiya Lunchbox (I really wanted the Associated RC10, but couldn’t afford it). I sold both of them to a neighbourhood kid (both really beat up) towards the end of high school. A few years ago, I though it would be cool to get back into the hobby, so I picked up a Traxxas Summit for myself and a Traxxas Stampede 2wd for the kids. Wow! Things had changed A LOT since the 90’s. I ended up putting a Monster Momba 2 and a 2200 brushless motor in the Summit and I run it on 6s LiPo. I can’t keep differentials in one piece, but fixing it is half the fun. Hopefully my kids stay with the hobby. Great content!
Awesome Video, Thank you for all you’ve done, I’m still at 40 yrs old as exited with RC cars as I was at 8 yrs old, and part of it is watching you work on the rc cars that I grew up with....👍 keep up the great work, you’ve ruined my life....😂😂
Great vid. Great trip down memory lane. I just purchased the white ‘85 Nikko from my childhood out of pure nostalgia, so I was entertained to see it on your list. It actually has one flat front tire, which I’ve started to hunt for, but it’s otherwise minty fresh. Thanks for paying tribute to the glory days of RC!
I had the white nikko rc, I took it on vacation to Gatlinburg Tenn with my parents and drive it all over the hotels we stayed in and the trails too. Great memories!
I really like your 200th video and really would have liked to have found it sooner than I did. I too have an RC from the late 80's it was a Nikko Big Bubba; wife and kids got it from Toys R US for my birthday. Had a blast running it it the yard. It got small cracks in the front and one of the smoke stacks. I put it up because I wanted to keep it in semi good shape. Took it out of storage last summer and bought a 1500mah nimh battery and charger. Worked fine at home; then brought it up north Minnesota to let my granddaughter drive it. All it would do is run in a circle; when I got home saw that the receiver and esc was burned. Didn't know that I could have fixed it with new electronics until I subscribe to your channel and saw the amazing things that you do. I miss that truck; it was 27mhz. Thanks for the great video and it is going to be fun watching your next 200.
Great video I enjoyed very much. I love talking vintage rc cars but I only get to to that once a year at the Vintage Offroad Nationals. So watching your videos while I wrench on my cars holds me over. Hope to see you st the Vonats sometime. Also i took down 2nd place in the heavy metal class with my original 80s Blackfoot useing your Ampro no bump steer knuckles. So thanks for doing what you do
@@AMPROEngineering No I dont have any footage. Only way to watch the Blackfoot class is at rce.liverc.com/results/?p=view_event&id=288267.Im RC Picasso on the results I paint rc cars in the New England area. The track is RC Excitement biggest RC facility in New England. They Crawl Race Bash ect.doctormsfet has so Gopro footage from the drivers stand on RUclips. if you ever need any info on the facility feel free to ask
Man glad youtube put this in my recommendation list. Cool channel I would have never known to look for. Im starting a vintage Ultima, losi and grasshopper build. Since 1989 Ive dreamed of the fun I had with my grasshopper. It did 27mph the fastest on the block haha. Looking forward to seeing your hornet builds
Cool video. I often credit the Blackfoot my parents gave me for Christmas in '86 for my career as a mechanical engineer. I don't think parents always realize the impact "toys" can have on their kids.
They should have shouted out your channel! The article made it seem like shapeways was the story and not your genius designs! And that b.s. about superfly II not being able to keep up with a modern buggy?!? Pop in a brushless/lipo setup and it’d dust anything out there!@@AMPROEngineering
Omg! This video was amazing. The fact you included some non hobby grade rcs was very cool . And the stories behind all the rcs . If you can do this for all your rcs that would be awesome. Also whats your take on radio shacks golden arrow? I can get one still has the original box everything. If I get it it will be a shelf queen for sure . Love your videos . Please keep them coming.
Oh yeah, I am working on that! They are called the "My Car" series. As for the Golden Arrow, it is a cool car. Take a look at my video on the Nikko Bison. Nikko made the golden Arrow for Radio Shack/tandy. It is an upgraded Bison.
Thanks that's great news. So glad to have access to stuff. I have thoroughly enjoyed your channel. The 3d print stuff you create is so impressive to me. I have an appreciation for it that I didn't have previously and your interest in less popular "toy grade" stuff connects with me. Thanks for taking time to create enjoyable content
This video is Absolutely Fascinating. I haven't watched many of your videos yet but will definitely watch more. I'm glad it all worked out for you. Congratulations on 200
Great video! Glad a TRX4 (have a modded Defender in orange) made it as well as the shout-out for the Tamiya Honda City which I couldn't afford as a teen, but was my first RC car just 2 years ago & got me properly hooked. Love the Tamiya buggies too as without them we wouldn't have the momentum in RC cars now. Alas, had a Mad Fighter but was turned by a Traxxas Bandit VXL. Sorry!
SPOILER ALERT ... Loved it, my friend! Watched every minute. Surprised that the Hornet, Bandit and Panther wasn’t no. 1, but I can see how the RC10 was the most influential. Great vid. Looking forward for the next 200. Congrats!
My first car was the Subaru Brat bu Tamiya, I still have the Magnum Junior controller, the only thing left of the car is the gear box, Leisure 540 motor, nice video, had to watch the hole thing..
My LHS has a track so Traxxas never completely took over there, but I sure noticed a huge difference at places like HobbyTown... Funny that you mentioned the top speed emblazoned on the 4-tec and T-Maxx, it is the same reason the Slash 4x4's do so well I think. Every practice some noob and their kid show up with a Slash 4x4 on 3s and just nuke the whole place. They crash into everything, then hit triples and fly over the wall into the pits. If there is more than one, trucks are literally flying everywhere with no rhyme or reason, upside-down, flipping, you name it. These days pretty much no knowledgeable adult drives a Traxxas at the track, but at the same time Traxxas really did give a financial boost to hobby shops, and a stock Slash is a great starter car and a great basher in general. My first car was a Blackfoot and it broke constantly lol. I spent more time fixing it and saving up for parts than driving it. You can drive a Slash off a roof and it will be fine. The original Slash class was also really fun and set records for participation at our track. It eventually merged back with the Novice class, but I think it really injected some new blood into the hobby. I don't know any figures, but Traxxas must have smashed every sales record that existed beforehand despite being a bit player for years. I raced a Traxxas Blue Eagle LS in the early 90's and it was hard to find parts. The was they pushed RTR was genius. A pre-built hobby grade car used to be MORE expensive to buy, which actually makes sense, but somehow they flipped the script and the rest is history. Almost everything is RTR these days.
I'm only up to the Pumpkin, but so far your RC story is similar to mine; except you still have your old ones and the Blackfoot I got in '89 is long gone. It was the best Christmas present ever. I always loved the King Cab and the Optima Mid. Recently I got my Optima Mid, a Turbo Optima Mid SE, but with no body. Great video. 👍
Well done I absolutely love your content and channel!! Here’s to 200 more and ,I love your number one. That was my first hobby grade rc and still have it today and because of watching you I restored it back to running condition (with a few others) thanks your the best on RUclips keep it up!!
Superb video. Congratulations on the big 200 😀👍🏻 It's really interesting and entertaining to hear your take on where it all started for you and how things progressed. All the best for the future and for the next two hundred. 😎👌🏻🙂👍🏻
Love the stories in this episode. I felt like I just got to know you a little bit better. When I was young my family could bearly afford a roof over our heads, so RC vehicles were never a consideration. I loved the idea of being able to control a car from afar. It was like I could control my destiny but alas they were far too expensive. So I watched other kids play with theirs and watch those amazing adds on TV. Now I'm older (and slightly more successful 😉) I'm able to try out some of those toys from the past. It's an odd feeling, getting so excited by a toy but I love it. Even though I can afford brand new cars now, I feel a certain duty to bring some of the old ones back to life. I recently found an old Jet Racer 4WD last month and with the help of fusion 360 and a 3D printer I'm slowly bringing it back to life. Thank you for the inspiration on your channel. It has helped keep the dream live. I look forward to your next 200 episodes. Regards Tiv
Thank you for taking the time to tell me that story. I was lucky enough to have thoughtful parents that really did work incredibly hard to give me a great childhood. It is true they were not swimming in money and I think that this made me appreciate the simple things like my little forward and Reverse/turn left RC's that everyone hates. I had friends with higher end RC's but when I got my little Turbo Panther, it was one of the best days of my youth. I am thrilled that you are also getting your Jet Racer back on the road. Message me when it is done! I'd love to see it!
Great video! Seeing your channel really gave me a kick to get my old Brat going again. Now that it is dialed in, I'm hoping to build a Blackfoot or monster beetle.
Congratulations on the 200th man! Good job. Please tell me the bandit suspension parts are staying on shapeways and you still plan on putting the wheel adapters up?
Great vid! So much truth! So glad you have all your old stuff. My cousin does but idk what the hell even happened to my old Tamiya cars. I miss my Boomerang most!
Love the video! I have to agree with your list of your model choices and your thinking behind them. I have a lot of the same vehicles and equipment, for the same reasons.
Cool and interesting story. You're like me that likes the small details of things only you have vision and TALENT. I just have 30 million ideas crashing around in my head lol
Love the videos. A potentially easy design or redesign idea for you: Monster beetle rear window. The new kits don't have a rear window and it would be great to put one in.
Thanks Jimmy! Yeah that window is a problem but the clarity of the prints. It would be foggy. I used a sheet of lexan and a few drops of hot glue. Seemed to do the trick.
(subscribed) This is a great video, we must be close to the same age, I grew looking but could never get any R/C cars, I built my first r/c out of a toy push car. I was raised by misc people none were my real parents. When I grew up and was on my own my first hobby grade car was a Black Foot that I bought used for $20, it was a POS, But the First real r/c I bought was the TA02 F-150, at that time you had to build everything, that was what I loved the most about it, now almost everything is RTR (thanks Traxxas) it kinda took some of the fun out of it. There's nothing more satisfying than building something from hundreds of small parts and then running it.
Would midnight pumpkin tires fit on a super black foot truck or the mud blaster I am looking and I'm trying to get away from the nobby tires when I run it on the road I do not Use them much in the dirt it's either in grais there a grass Or on blacktop please comment back thank you very much for this video still waiting for those king Blackfoot parts
my first was also the turbo panther. first tamiya was the monsterbeetle and that is also awesome on grass. always wanted a hornet. the seller in the shop talked dad into buy the much more expensive super astute. loved it but the looks is not really so cool as the hornet. the super astute was a blast on gravel and small jumps. thanks for sharing this list. thumbs up!
Me and my buddy first RC mine was the midnight pumpkin in my buddies was the lunch box which are both the same vehicle but I understand what you were saying cuz my third RC was Traxxas T-Maxx
If you can win races using a Super Hornet, can I win races with a Super Hornet? Or are the other cars too modern now? Not talking about pro class, just more intermediate classes. What mods would I need?
What tires would you use on the super black food for the road were the ones that come with it are so nabil in narrow I had commented to you about the midnight pumpkin tires and wheels which ones would you use please comment back thank you
Nice shirt lol..I raced a Falcon in 88' for a season then I raced the Gold Pan for 3 seasons..Ended up being a dirt Oval Sprint Car..I wish I was able to keep those rigs but I did a lot of stupid stuff in my late teens and early 20's that landed me in some bad places lol
Awesome video buddy. I like to hear back story of how a channel I watch regularly became how it is today so thanks for sharing. I have or have had most of your top ten RCs. Keep up the brilliant work my friend! 😉👍
Oh man I had the radio shack version of that Nikko Turbo Panther. That was my first car too. I still have it in the original box in my garage. of course I had to paint it black and took off all the decals. ha ha. I always ran alkalines in mine.
@@AMPROEngineering Wow I have never heard of those programs. Thank you for your reply, I like using tinkerCAD it reminds of building with Legos when I was a child.
my first car was a radio shack 300zx, then a tyco , turbo panther, futaba fx-10, kyosho big brute, kyosho ultima, kyosho big boss, e-maxx, ta-02,traxxas stampede, rustler, bandit, hpi wheelie king and many more.............learned alot from the kit vehicles
Can’t do donuts with the lunchbox or midnight pumpkin 🎃. BUT awesome beach and off-road trucks. I’m on Long Island 🌴 so we got beaches everywhere. Great stuff dude this is great just found the channel.
Nikko Turbo Panther black was my first RC. Great memories. I remember removing the decals and using Jif cream cleaner to remove the residue, totally ruined the body 🤣

Congrats on your #200 videos man. Looking forward to #300 #cheers
Thank you Rese!
What's up with the tread on your KingCab's rear tires? looks like a front tire tread.
No idea. they are some crappy rollers.
So about the Superfly wheels... Will they fit Tamiya standard hubs?
Will they fit modern tires?
If so what size tire?
Superfly 1.0 wheels will fit the stock hornet. 2.2' tires i think. Super Fly 2.0 will not.
I had the white nikko rc, I took it on vacation to Gatlinburg Tenn with my parents and drive it all over the hotels we stayed in and the trails too. Great memories!

I love hearing that! The ORV's are always fun!
Congratulations on the 200th man! Good job. Please tell me the bandit suspension parts are staying on shapeways and you still plan on putting the wheel adapters up?
Yeah they will all be there and I will add the adapters to the front suspension kit.
Great vid! So much truth! So glad you have all your old stuff. My cousin does but idk what the hell even happened to my old Tamiya cars. I miss my Boomerang most!
Thanks man, my pleasure. I think Tamiya re-released the boomerang....
Love the video! I have to agree with your list of your model choices and your thinking behind them. I have a lot of the same vehicles and equipment, for the same reasons.
Glad to hear it. I think it shed a lot of light on my channel.
Cool and interesting story. You're like me that likes the small details of things only you have vision and TALENT. I just have 30 million ideas crashing around in my head lol
Oh dont say that! Trust me, the only way I am able to get these ideas out is to focus on one at a time. It is all about the focus.
Awesome video! Love it. Glad you featured the Turbo Panther, as per my previous comments on another video.
Keep up that great work.
Thank you! Yeah it is a special car for me.
Your #10 is my #1, Alberto.
Good taste!
Very interesting episode! Thx for the memories!
My pleasure!
Glad you liked it
Would midnight pumpkin tires fit on a super black foot truck or the mud blaster I am looking and I'm trying to get away from the nobby tires when I run it on the road I do not Use them much in the dirt it's either in grais there a grass Or on blacktop please comment back thank you very much for this video still waiting for those king Blackfoot parts
The tires for the MP are different than the ones from a BF. The wheel diameter and width is different so the tires wont fit without forcing them.
Awesome video with a bunch of amazing rc's. I'm partial to my hpi and rc4wd rigs personally
Thank you so much! I love the RC4WD cars too! Never actually had an HPI.
Holy moly! I'm going to save this video for when I can sit down with some snacks!
Haha! Thanks!
my first was also the turbo panther. first tamiya was the monsterbeetle and that is also awesome on grass. always wanted a hornet. the seller in the shop talked dad into buy the much more expensive super astute. loved it but the looks is not really so cool as the hornet. the super astute was a blast on gravel and small jumps. thanks for sharing this list. thumbs up!
Sure thing man!
Great video man. That’s awesome!
Thank you Astrid!
Me and my buddy first RC mine was the midnight pumpkin in my buddies was the lunch box which are both the same vehicle but I understand what you were saying cuz my third RC was Traxxas T-Maxx
Heck yea, those are great beginner trucks and still loads of fun to drive now.
Awesome! I love watching your engineering designs. Thank you.
I appreciate that.
If you can win races using a Super Hornet, can I win races with a Super Hornet? Or are the other cars too modern now? Not talking about pro class, just more intermediate classes. What mods would I need?
This was a couple times 20 years ago. It is a bad car and in no way worth trying
Great video!
I really enjoyed wery much!
Thank you!
What tires would you use on the super black food for the road were the ones that come with it are so nabil in narrow I had commented to you about the midnight pumpkin tires and wheels which ones would you use please comment back thank you
They are some old prolines that I gave away. They were awful.
@@AMPROEngineering Do you know what pro line tires they were please comment back thank you
Great channel , love it . All the best .......
Thanks Scott!
i had one of those NIKKO buggy. it was a great first time rc car
Yeah it was a gem! I love that thing.
I enjoyed the stories, congrats on 200 👍
Thank you!
lOVE THESE VIDS, THIS ONE TO SHORT, REMINDS ME i'M GUNNA REWATCH THE OTHER COLLECTION AND UPDATES.
fkn caps, sorry
Not a problem! thanks for the kind words.
Keep up the great work and really enjoyed this episode
Thanks! I am glad you liked it!
I thought so! Haha! Well it would be hard for anyone to keep a Falcon going...that was a rough car to keep in a single piece!
@@AMPROEngineering Oh yea..I broke it in half once or twice lol
😎👍 Hornet!! Associated rc10 is the champ of all time!
Yeah it is. A real Icon.
Awesome video buddy. I like to hear back story of how a channel I watch regularly became how it is today so thanks for sharing. I have or have had most of your top ten RCs. Keep up the brilliant work my friend! 😉👍
Thanks man. Nice to hear you have great taste too!
Congratulation !! and I know exactly what you mean about the Blackfoot , the first time I saw one I knew I had to have it !
I know, no mater how bad...i needed it.
Big fat thumbs up! Keep on rc-ing...
Thank Joe! Will do!
I have my grasshopper and my Bursier + a lot of others still don't own a traxxs yet lol and I treat them like a big dog Thank you for the video.
Any time!
Oh man I had the radio shack version of that Nikko Turbo Panther. That was my first car too. I still have it in the original box in my garage. of course I had to paint it black and took off all the decals. ha ha. I always ran alkalines in mine.
Very cool! Hard to beat that little guy for me.
What is this "stealth" transmission you keep talking about?
The greatest transmission ever made. It is the second generation of the Team associated RC10 trans.
It's a wonderful upgrade for an rc10. It was smooth it was great for early gen
Love your channel, great history of your cars❤👍
Thank you so much!
Cool video.. one question for you from a beginner tinkerCAD or freeCad? Thanks for your input.
Thank you. Sadly I have never used either. I use Creo Parametric but have used SolidWorks, NX and CoCreate in the past.
@@AMPROEngineering Wow I have never heard of those programs. Thank you for your reply, I like using tinkerCAD it reminds of building with Legos when I was a child.
Hey dude! People laugh at me because I feel about the same as you. Tyco was a wonderful producer in the 80s.
Thanks man, I agree!
Great video some really amazing rigs in your top 10
Thanks Sean, I think so too.
my first car was a radio shack 300zx, then a tyco , turbo panther, futaba fx-10, kyosho big brute, kyosho ultima, kyosho big boss, e-maxx, ta-02,traxxas stampede, rustler, bandit, hpi wheelie king and many more.............learned alot from the kit vehicles
Yeah it is a great way to learn! Thanks a lot!
Can’t do donuts with the lunchbox or midnight pumpkin 🎃. BUT awesome beach and off-road trucks. I’m on Long Island 🌴 so we got beaches everywhere. Great stuff dude this is great just found the channel.
Yeah thats a good point! Glad you like it!
People think I'm crazy when I tell them I think the Tyco line up was one of the all time best with the bandit leading the way
I get the same feedback but typo was amazing
Nikko Turbo Panther black was my first RC. Great memories. I remember removing the decals and using Jif cream cleaner to remove the residue, totally ruined the body 🤣
oh no! Yeah some plastics really do not react well with cleaners.
I had the Tamiya Subaru Brat and the stadium Blitzer
Me too, both fun cars!
I bought the the Hornet over the Grass-hoper because of the 540 vs 380.
Oh yeah, a lot of people swap over that 540
Dope collection man, keep up with things that you love.!
Thanks! All good fun!
