    Good Monday morning Trina…well, you never disappoint me. I have a Kuretake Gansai set for a few years now…and every once in a while I pull them out. I love them as well…just don’t understand why I don’t use them more?! This was a fabulous landscape…now when the video got to about 5:58 min I was saying to myself, “Trina, you could leave as is, it would be simple but beautiful!” But then you kept going…I thought, now where will she go on this? Well, you always amaze me at how something will come out. I agree that the white was needed and it added much, but it was when you went through it with the palette knife that it became really interesting…loved this! Well Trina, have a wonderful week and I’m looking forward to picking out another video here and there of yours to watch…like I said, I’ve put my video watching on “low” and I am picky what I choose to watch…you just happen to be one of my favorites! 😊

      Hello Katerina! I love painting with that Kuretake set. I need to use it more. I agree that I could have left it simple but you know me. Haha! One of these days I will surprise you and create something simple. Maybe? Thanks for watching and I hope you have an amazing week. 😍

    • @Katerina-vm2ok
      @Katerina-vm2ok День назад

      Trina, I have the same problem. I say I will keep it simple but I keep going. I believe this problem is for us folks who say, “now what would happen if I do this?…or this?” and we can’t walk away from it without trying. Some turn out and some don’t. But after a fail I know there is one less thing “not to do”. Maybe we ought to call ourselves “Art Scientists”… :)

    I really like the Kuretake paints, and have used them a lot. I used up 2pans, but you can get refills. Some did curl a wee bit but when l sprayed them with water they settled back. I have a 3 layered wooden box of Derwent coloured pencils, it's like a sweetie (candy) box 😅 Love watching you paint Trina, the touch of white did the trick for me, great result.......Alioban ❤

    I really loved watching you create this, as it was so much about exploring the paints, colors, and mark making, keeping it fairly simple, nice to change it up. I think the painting turned out amazing! I love the expressive marks, and the paints, and marking back in with the pallet knife. I also loved adding the white brush strokes in at the end. I have been tempted several times to try Kuretake watercolors, but since I mainly use acrylics, I wonder why I would need the? Although, I guess they would be more matte/chalky than acrylics? What do you think? I also still have my regular water colors for when I want to work with those... Lovely as always! 😍🤩😍

    I enjoy your channel and love the Derwent pencils. This landscape is really nice! In general I'm not a huge fan of the Kuratake pigments, which are not the same as watercolors and were designed for a very different art style. They developed from the sumi-e ink and other Asian painting traditions which focus on gesture and pure colors to produce flat, 2-D paintings. Nothing wrong with that, of course; some of the pigments are beautiful and art materials are a matter of personal preference. But they are not designed to be mixed or to produce the same effects as watercolors.

    I have the larger set of the kuretake, they are super expensive in the uk and i picked them up in Tokyo. But even there it was surprisingly hard to find them, and nobody seemed to have the Art Nouveau set. I’m still regretful about that, because although the larger set is nice, there’s almost no crossover in the colours and the Art Nouveau colours are way superior - or to be fair, much more to my taste!

    Received the Art Nouveau set for Christmas…they are definitely not like traditional western watercolors. I don’t like them concentrated. They are nice diluted…but I don’t like the shiny texture of concentrated color. I have to learn how to use them to their advantage.
