    Someone told me to always check twice to make sure you don't have any screws that you forgot! Thanks for reminding me of that priceless piece of information!

    LOL You kind of glossed over the actual installation of the RAM and it was out of frame! That's what I was watching this video to see..FML.

    Wow, crazy! My old fashioned 2011 HP Paviliion dv7 has a "T" shaped panel that pulls off with no screws at all for access to the RAM & HDD. Anyway, good vid, if you buy a Dremel you can carve a slot in the stripped screw then you can just use a flathead screwdriver and get that "expletive" screw right out lol. Thanks for the vid!!

    Great video. My wife has the same one or very close to your model. HP Pavilion 17-f113dx. This is my first time opening up a laptop. Very helpful.

    Hi, I have precisely the same laptop, 17 f121ds I believe. I looked at your video before ordering the SSD and memory, to be sure I wouldn"t destroy the laptop beforehand. Your screw stripping made me be very careful with those 2 screws. I thought the faceplate was going to break, but it didn't. Thanks for the pioneering effort.

      There is 1 screw on the back you need to take out, it has a little "CD" stamp next to it in the cover, and it is placed about 16.5 cm in from edge of laptop. When you have it out, just pull the optical drive out. Then, with drive out, you are able to access the flat screws, of which she stripped 1. Pay no regard to the other answers you got, those people have no clue.

    Thanks for absolutely brilliant Video! I wasn't looking for Pro rather non-technical stuff, however, I'm glad to see it. Retired and browsing but since 1958 after selling my first home made 'Resistor Substitution Box', well, I must confess that you made it all look so easy! I'll keep the SSD in mind. Here's why I'm happy; Some Tech's are fast because they cheat and People know it. And others Cheat but then they really don't have the skills to Repair. And I always did the work, meaning that if it was a melted capacitor then I had charged 20 Cents for it, and if I had ruined or burned 3 or 4 adjacent Capacitors then I paid the $1 loss out of pocket. I would never make a Customer pay for a Motherboard if all they had needed to do was clean off the dust on a contact. But I still pay People to do their work for me. The next time I need anything Repaired, well, I hope you'll be available! Take Care

    Awesome vid and helpful on how to crack into these odd Pavilions.. my Pavilion the mem/hdd are right under the rear cover. Her's however is similar to yours... remove the many screws, pry the keyboard up and her MB was mounted underneath the keyboard with the HDD and memory on there. I digress her laptop was dragging which I think was a drive issue... upgraded her RAM from 8 to 16 and tossed in a SSD. Night and day difference now!

    Hi 🌹even tho you posted this video about 5 years ago, it's still a good one to watch! In that model, can the CPU be upgraded as well? Have a couple of HP G62 (& an HP Compaq CQ56, similar to the above HP) that can be upgraded. Thanks 🤓🌹(you're hot!)
    Sorta of a hassle to swap the RAM & SSD by having to open the laptop from the keyboard side!

    HP failed to add a cover for updating the RAM , on newer Laptops they added this feature, but you did a good job in this video.
    The touchpad ribbon cable is very delicate and should be disconnected BEFORE you attempt to make changes to the driver.
    The star socket screw (underneath the DVD drive ) is very odd .

    Thanks for the video, I have the same exact laptop I believe! I just got off the phone with HP and they suck, pretty much couldn't answer my question regarding the ram and mhz required. What is the frequency you are using and how did you figure out which ram was compatible for this laptop?? Any help would be super appreciated and thanks! :D

    • @BlitzCityDIY
      @BlitzCityDIY  6 лет назад +3

      if you look up your exact model number then you should be able to find compatible RAM. Crucial's website also allows you to look it up. you can also check your laptop's BIOS or other system check to see what you currently have installed. You'll more than likely need DDR3 SODIMM sticks. I believe I used 1600 speed since this laptop is used for just everyday usage, nothing too extreme.

    Nice new channel here! Looks like you could have stuck something to that little screw with superglue or resin to get it out -something to get traction like another screw head, or even the screwdriver - that can work :).

    If not, the small silver metal trip that you see protruding out of the disc drive has a screw in the epicenter.

      Yes, it should be possible, for technical details, you can refer to this doc, page 12 : h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03094322 . You can also consider the following upgrade solution : ruclips.net/video/H09SEyoE8yY/видео.html. Be also aware that upgrading memory (up to an overall 8gb) can be very usefull, 4gb is not enough nowadays.

    HP notebook of this generation is a pain - older HP has dedicated cover to change RAM and HD. Current Dell is not too hard to crack open and change battery and RAM. I watched some HP video and crack one open to add RAM from 4 to 8G. Such a pain and high risk of wrecking the notebook in the process.

    Can you upgrade it to even faster PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD? Does it has a slot for that?

    • @xg9898
      @xg9898 4 года назад

      It is not likely, it would be surprising to have a NVMe port available on such old laptop (2014). the upgrade from mechanical HDD to SATA SDD is already a great improvment (and RAM increase too) and the principle of this upgrade was to re-use an unsued SSD, not to look for top performance in buying high end stuff.
