  • The final season of Power Rangers is fast approaching. Cosmic Fury drops on Netflix on September 29, 2023.
Fan reactions have been all over the place, sparking conversation about fandom attitudes, toxicity, and positivity. Some are simply critical of the few bits of material that have been shown so far. Others are upset by the lack of promotion, especially with Power Rangers Day was handled. The suits are also receiving some critique on Twitter/X.
And it's not just the fans who are calling eachother out, people who work on the show, including showrunner Simon Bennett have joined in as well.
Is there a negativity problem? Are these negative responses justified?

No it wasn't, he didn't touch on the political issue power rangers is facing. He didn't mention that Dino Fury was banned in more house holds then any other season because they introduced lesbians into a children's show. He tried to say people are mad because of black and female representation yet didn't mention we haven't had a male white ranger since Ninja Steel for political virtue signaling and we are only getting a female red for political virtue signaling so her move to red is tainted in most people's eyes.
Ranger fan parents are sick of the show pushing leftist propaganda on our children. That's why Dino Fury was a failure compared to even Samurai.

Power Rangers works so well when it doesn't talk down to its audience. I feel like this is something that the nick seasons and onward have a terrible problem doing. They constantly talk to the audience as if 5-year-olds are the only ones watching, when that's usually not the case. Secondly, I don't have high hopes when it comes to power rangers moving away from the super sentai/toku in general. The toku aspects of the show are what make power rangers, power rangers. Without it, it's just some generic sci-fi series that tries too hard to be serious and edgy (I'm looking at the 2017 movie specifically). Even if they keep the toku aspects once they move away from adapting sentai footage, the suits are likely never going to be on the same level as the sentai. I find this quite odd, as they've shown that they can make good original costumes and such (i.e., Titanium Ranger, Spirit Rangers, Shogun Mode, etc.). With cosmic fury it appears that they don't even try with the outfits, and it's genuinely sad. I've for real seen fan art that better encapsulates how to add both aspects of the cosmic fury suits and the kyuranger suits in a way that still looks good. Combining recent PR's lack of taking risks, plus the laziness in recent seasons: the future of the show looks quite gray.

    • @FireFury190
      @FireFury190 9 месяцев назад +26

Reading why they designed the Cosmic Fury suits the way they did, and saying the Kyuranger suits were too complex for the Hasbro toy design team to me really screams lazy. Like yeah it's smart to reuse molds. They do it with other brands like Transformers all the time, but this to me screams they're being way too cheap. Especially the lack of paint on the chests beside the shield and silver on the side. Seems more like they made these suits because they didn't want to put in a ton of effort on the manufacturing side to save on costs rather than trying to be unique and break away from Sentai. If they really cared about trying to break away from Sentai and appeal to fans with new original suits then they would have put in more effort into their designs. And you know what sucks, they aren't even making all the CF rangers into action figures. So what was even the point? We're only going to get 4 CF rangers as figures. It really just doesn't send a good message from Hasbro who wants to make their own ranger designs. Cause these suits are not a great first impression.

One thing that I think some people forget is that someone (might've been Simon) originally said that the reason they didn't use the Kyuranger suits was because they didn't want to have to write for that many characters.
But I say that you could've still used the kyuranger suits without needing to use all of them.
We later find out that there's at least 9 rangers in this season, 7 fury, 1 mmpr, 1 Dino charge. Meaning the "too many" line was just a lie.
From my perspective, it makes me think the PR team think they can do better than Sentai, which while not always inaccurate, it makes them come across as arrogant, especially with rumours of them completely severing ties with Sentai
I wouldn't have minded if Cosmic Fury was all original, or all Kyuranger, but because they specifically used the zords, but original suits, it makes it come across as more lazy than if they did either or, as it makes them look like they wanted to do completely original, but couldn't be bothered to go the whole way.
If they do sever ties with Sentai, I don't think it'd be for the better, it'd be like if the marvel films decided to only make super hero films completely devoid of anything from their comics.
See... I'd have more trust that they could do it, and that this series would be good, if i hadn't already been burned by Hasbro before, what with being a Magic the Gathering player too. Some of the worst decisions in MTG have been going on in recent years, and guess who became the CEO of Hasbro, former head of Wizards of the Coast. Hasbro's higher-ups don't care about pleasing fanbases, they only care about taking the most amount of profits, this is evident from the shoddy suits, short runtime, terrible zord toy (yet asking for a higher price tag than previous zords). They don't care about power rangers, they just want a big IP name they can monetize to hell. Pay for suits and footage from the company we actively dislike, or make our own cheaper looking suits to sell are cheaper looking toys for a higher price tag.

Genuinely had no idea this kind of discourse was happening in the PR community. It's kinda hilarious, but I'm mostly just sad.
Power Rangers has such a potential to be a driving force in modern pop culture. The characters, the lore, everything in it, is so iconic. How is it so easy for production companies to screw this sort of thing up? They're young actors playing teenagers transforming into super heroes to defeat evil. It shouldn't be anymore complicated than that.
Feels like the showrunners are just out of touch with the general demographic they're aiming for. It made me wince to see the dude in charge had white hair, that's immediately a bad sign.
All you need for a great PR season is likeable characters that the audience can relate to, convincing CGI, and paying homage to where and how the franchise started in the first place. Don't forget your roots, but pave the way for the future. That's what PR has always been about and what longtime fans recognize it for.

One of my biggest memories of the series was In Space and how it was supposed to be the end of the series. Back then under threat of cancellation they went all out to give the fans the best possible ending that we could be satisfied with had it truly been the end. Starting with Lost Galaxy each season was its own thing but still tied to the previous series with the team up episodes. Each season could have been the last for Power Rangers but that was ok because the full story they wanted to tell got to be told.
10 episodes on Netflix just sounds to me like Power Rangers is going to end with a whimper and not a bang. I know 10 episodes is standard for a Netflix show but it doesn't feel like the story will have room to breathe if they are still your standard 20+ minute episodes. I could very well be wrong I'm just sharing my 2 cents as a fan that lost touch and is a little saddened by the discourse.

If you look at shows like the CG TMNT series, "Star Wars Rebels" the last seasons always tend to have the fewest episodes because it's like the creators can't wait for the current show to end so they can started on the next.

TJ, Jack and Zayto were all Red Rangers for their entire season, only stepping down at the end.
Jack is used as a terrible example in this video. His character story ended with him not wanting to be part of SPD and doing something more useful for others as he felt. TJ becoming Blue just kinda happend. He went into space and met up with Andros, who was already the Red Ranger. So it would be kinda odd for TJ to be like "Hey, I was the Red Turbo Ranger on Earth, could I have your morpher?". Yeah, doesn't really make sense huh?

Amelia and Zayto both get to be Red Rangers while you can still have Amelia as a leader. Don't get me wrong I do like Zenith Ranger. It's probably one of my only favorite CF suits due to the unique choice of Champagne Gold as the ranger color. I say Jason Bischoff cause he really wanted to do Kyuranger.
Or hell do a more ambitious idea of the Kyurangers being Zedd's new mind-controlled dark rangers. And that is a big hurdle the Cosmic Fury Rangers need to overcome. And the show ends with 22 rangers vs. Zedd's massive monster army.

Personal opinion, I, like all of us, hope Cosmic Fury will surpass our expectations.
It is regrettable that they had a perfect Sentai series that could have been used for a final series of Power Rangers as we know it, that could have easily been used to pay respects to all that came before it as a legacy season... And all they took from it was the zords.
As stated in this video, the suits for Zyuranger were created with Western viewers in mind. On top of that there were characters that when Americanized into Power Rangers, could easily relate to Power Rangers characters of the past. Some of which, I didn't even have answers for when I first came up with this idea a few years back. But the Hasbro seasons have given rise to fill some in.
Lucky the Leo Ranger could easily connect to either of the Red Lion rangers before him. Maybe directly, by connecting him to Leo from Lost Galaxy, or being our tie to Wild Force. I know the latter could be difficult given Cole's actor's... Actions... But Wild Force was still part of the franchise, and deserves inclusion in a legacy series.
Spada as our yellow marlin ranger could directly reference Samurai Blue and his Swordfish zord. Though, it would feel like a bit of a stretch. This is honestly the hardest placement for me. Because I could also see him as our connection to Aquitar, and a reference to the 2017 movie where their first yellow ranger was also from Aquitar.
Hammie could have been or connection to Jungle Fury. A teenage daughter of Jarrod and Camille. We could even start with some tension between her and Lucky as he gets the Leo zord, but she was after it as her father was the Lion Warrior and her mother was the Chameleon Warrior.
Champ is a large robot created by the world's most brilliant scientist... While the Sentai has him being revealed as a mad scientist... This could be how we insert Billy into the series.
Garou is the easiest to explain. Cosmic Fury is coming out 2 years before SPD is set... And Once and Always, earlier this year, had Adam and Aisha in the SPA... Garou could simply be Anubis "Doggie" Kruger. And they could even have the Dekaranger crossover footage be a time travel angle where SPD teamed up with Time Force to give SPA a head start to catch up to 2025.
If we went Wild Force for Lucky, then Stinger could be out Lost Galaxy tie in, coming from the same planet as Scorpius and Trakeena. Also could be fun to tie Scorpina from MMPR together with that same species.
Balance and Naga were originally a hangup for me. But with Beast Morphers, we have a ranger age Gold and Silver Ranger combo that would fit perfectly. This could be the return of Nate and Steel, to help form SPA as part of Grid Battleforce. Nate becoming the Libra ranger to signify his coming to peace with being the creator of Evox, and balancing his life. Steel being the Ophiuchus ranger, represented by a cobra signifying a similar balance as he was originally created as a body for Evox. This is, of course, also out tie-in for RPM.
Raptor, I originally pictured as a late series Alpha model from Edenoi, mostly due to her initial duty as command base assistant... But as I already had a tie to MMPR with Champ and Billy, and possibly connecting Stinger to Scorpina. I have instead decided she could be a surviving Cadet of General Evox's Machine Empire army, that was dejected, but taken in by Adam (in particular because of his connection to both Zeo and the SPA) and Aisha, and turned to join the creation of SPA, and aid in human-machine relations.
Our version of Kotaro could work as a tease on Justin from Turbo, being a child ranger that morphed into an adult sized ranger, also being a blue ranger with the same gimmick, but also having a child sized ranger form. I can even see a scene where there is objection to him becoming a ranger, and Adam, as one of the leaders of SPA saying, "I worked with a child ranger before. It wasn't all bad."
Speaking of leaders, we have Rou. The purple dragon ranger. While I initially had no idea for him, other than bringing Tommy back as a new Dragon Ranger (Rest in peace, JDF). I have a better idea.
We had Rita come back as the Mystic Mother in Mystic Force. And we had Robo-Rita in Once and Always. And we currently have Lord Zedd as resurrected when he was at his strongest as a warrior... But it isn't the REAL Zedd it is his evil essence, same as Robo-Rita... This could be Zedd's humanoid return to take the evil version of himself down... Along with the purple dragon Zord, built from the scraps of Serpentera from the moon after it's destruction in Forever Red.
And what if the reason Rita and Zedd were both mentor roles in this situation... Was because they both contained the essence of Zordon after the Z-Wave.
Which would be released at the end of the series back into his Eltarian humanoid form after the defeats of evil Robo-Rita in Once and Always, and the final evil essence of Lord Zedd. And likely being welcomed into the ranks of the Morphin' Masters as the White Light Morphin' Master (again... RIP, JDF).
And we could see Carla Perez return as a youthful Mystic Mother bringing in a new recruit for the SPA (to Adam's shegrin). A reformed (and transformed) Thraxx. As our connections to Mystic Force and Operation Overdrive. Becoming, of course, the Phoenix Soldier.
We could even work in the current returning role of Mick, as a tech designer for SPA. Even potentially mentioning how he has a nephew named Boom who would be great at his job.
So far we have representation from all three seasons of MMPR, Zeo, Turbo, in Space (with unavoidable mention of the Z-Wave), Lost Galaxy, Time Force, Wild Force, SPD, Mystic Force, Operation Overdrive, RPM, (Maybe) Samurai, Ninja Steel, Beast Morphers, and Dino Fury.
But that leaves missing teams unrepresented. Lightspeed Rescue, Ninja Storm, Dino Thunder, (maybe) Samurai, Megaforce, Super Megaforce (the only Super I will reference as it's own due to change in powers, and Dino Charge... Well, I'm sorry... I can't make everything work... But perhaps we could reference them in episodic villains that join Lord Zedd through the season.
I mean... But that's just how I would handle the 30th anniversary... Especially if it was going to be the end of the Power Rangers series as we know it with Sentai footage.

And yes, Pooki really needs to stop engaging with this fandom cause even if he has good intentions, it only adds more needless fuel to the fire. This does remind me how James Gunn does online interactions and it's honestly a much better way to go about it. He does QnAs and trivia, but he doesn't go into debates with fans about his work (and trust me, there's this group of people who does tear apart his movies) and whenever he does respond, it's mostly when it comes to rumors and baseless accusations. He clearly knows when it's proper time for engagement and when it's to distance themselves, something that Simon needs to learn.

Jason, the first Red Rangers, actually got demoted while remaining as the red ranger. TJ may have become the blue space ranger but it wasn't really a demotion. There was already a red space ranger and TJ, having no experience in space, would have been a bad choice to replace him as red ranger. People worry too much about colors. The reason people worry about colors is because of the symbolism and identity associated with them. In the wider pop culture space, even non-power ranger fans know red is the leader. It's not about whether they say it's a demotion or a promotion, they're symbolically stripping away the status by changing the color. Is my interpretation at least. It's the same way people feel pride when they see their country's flag on something. Think of athletes who carry their country's flags around them or have it as part of their uniforms. They don't have to have it, it doesn't affect their performance, but it's an indicator of representation.

He first ascended into a white ranger color, and now he's becoming this new color never seen before. The name Zenith even suggests this evolution. Since recent trailers show him with a Morphin Master staff, it seems he'll get one of the biggest promotions a ranger has ever gotten. That's pretty impressive, imo.

I feel like the mandates royally held back this show for a long time.
Saban should haves known coming back that people don't want mmpr nostalgia, especially for kids who didn't grow up with it and should have been telling stories on the level of In Space/lost galaxy to wild force.
Those shows are what kept the brand alive and reinvigorated it after nearly being cancelled.
Sure an mmpr throwback for the anniversary season would have been cool, but to have it recur throughout the past 12 years has stunted the show so much, when it had the potential to evolve.
I've recently started watching sentai and i do love it, and in some ways yeah i prefer it to PR.
But PR is the show I began on all those years ago, even dipping after the tmnt crossover cause i felt the show was too childish (I was 9-10) at the time, to then catch an episode of lightspeed rescue and being like, ohh the rangers are more adult and aren't talking down to me and sticking with the franchise since
I'm excited for Cosmic fury cause imo, while it has had it's flaws and is nowhere near perfect, Dino fury, especially season 2 was a genuine step back in the right direction and hoping cosmic fury and the reboot follows suit and the show is treated with the respect and creativity it so needs and deserves.

I'm speaking in terms of the show and how it was written.
Newcomers didn't want mmpr cause they wouldn't know it, and older fans don't want mmpr elements in what was supposed to be adaptation of Samurai, and there's elements of it throughout the show.
The comedic duo, heavyhanded moral lessons, go go power rangers in every theme as opposed to genuine creativity.
The show felt like all the previous work to make the evolve the show through Saban and Disney just verted to very paint by numbers PR when if it had come back with the mindset of "no, we want PR to be bigger and better than it used to be. Still for younger audiences but with budget, effort and compelling characters

It’s a tragedy what happened to Andrew Laing, Dino Fury’s Lord Zedd.
Honestly, Andrew’s Zedd voice improved in Dino Fury Season 2 for me. Sure, he’s no Robert Axelrod, but that’s just VERY unfortunate circumstance; it’s not Andrew’s fault that they chose to revive a legacy character that they couldn’t get the original actor to reprise.

Base sound effects that they been using since Samurai and their usual banter in mid combat sour my experience watching it over time.
The suit being essentially blank with silver pad doesn't help either, people could say it not an issue but considering the genre Power Range is in and compare it other similar property like Sentai for example where the majority of them doesn't look like a blank suit that they just brought straight from a costume shop.
Everything add up over time just being a mood killer for me.

Hey, the writing by itself may not tickle everyone's fancy, but it's a start. It'll at least solve half of the issues such as the fight banter you mention. We can deal with bad sound effects for a while, the Disney SFX library was never good either (it's all the same laser sounds). But bad writing can actually break the show.
I would say writing is the biggest gap to fill. But it's not the only one. Music, sound design, choreography, costuming, set design, and a plethora of other issues need addressing. It's just easier to comprehend fixing things one at a time, hence only mentioning the writing.

I'm probably gonna be a contrarian compared to everyone else in the comments, but here it goes.
I agree with a lot of what MintBari says in this video, and I am sorry Simon blocked you/He was getting harassed by folks going off the rails, though that doesn't excuse his behavior, mind you.
I've been made privvy to a lot of BTS info & what Simon said isn't inaccurate. It's very likely that when he first saw footage of GoBusters & he saw the the Rabbit Zord hopping around, he laughed not as demeaning it but enjoying it. That's where I think people are taking some of Simon's posts out of context.
Simon should have more tact on social media, I do agree but I think the reason he's doing it is because there's currently no brand manager at Hasbro to do public relations for the fandom & Simon decided to sorta do that with varying degrees of success, obviously.
I am still looking forward to Cosmic Fury, but we are just gonna have to wait & see what happens with the franchise as it takes it's first real break to re-energize itself.
PS: The sort of thing with the break actually has precedent KINDA regarding how between the ending of Black RX in 1989 & the start of Kuuga in 2000? There was no new Rider show, just the movies for Shin, ZO, & J & that was it. That was a 10 year gap between shows for content so, if Rider can survive a drought for 10 years, Power Rangers can survive a likely 2-year break with the comics, games & other fan-created works.

    • @shade_zz1585
      @shade_zz1585 9 месяцев назад

I think you severely underestimated KR's return. While yes, Rider did fell out of relevance in the 90s, the major reason is also because Shotaro Ishinomori passed away during that time, and without his input the series won't be the same.
The revival of the franchise isn't something to take lightly either. If Kuuga wasn't the *MASSIVE* success that it was, the series won't be the same now. Heck even after Kuuga they still struggled to find the right sauce. What's important is that they aren't afraid to reinvent themselves while keeping true to what makes them special.
And i honestly doubt if Power Rangers could do that. For PR to TRUELY comeback they'll need at least HALF of the impact that MMPR created.

    • @FireFury190
      @FireFury190 9 месяцев назад

Shotaro Ishinomori was alive long enough to be working on the early plans for Kuuga. He just died before those plans were fully finalized and the show was filmed. The real reason Rider fell out of relevance is as time went on Japan saw Kamen Rider as a laughing stock. An old style show that is more often than not parodied than taken seriously. No different than how PR is often treated in the west. Kuuga was made specifically to destroy that image people had of Kamen Rider. And when it came out it succeeded. Reviving Kamen Rider back to the juggernaut it used to be.

This is something i have major doubts with. Despite Rider and Ultraman going hiatus, they ended things with a bang. KR had Black and RX before the shows stopped, and Ultraman's Showa run is iconic even to today. They've done all they could, and that's why they had to reimagine themselves to comeback. Compare that to PR who clearly doesn't even know what it wants to be, i have much doubts towards the future of these shows.

Sure, there could be filler nowadays, but since Kuuga, up til this day during Gotchard, it always stayed in the season’s main story. There was less filler and more seriousness. For Power Rangers though? Won’t be easy since Super Sentai was marked towards kids. I think Power Rangers for the same thing as well. Honestly, transitioning Power Rangers to target to an older audience as TV-14 or TV-MA won’t be appealing and kids will stop watching it mainly because it’s not the OG Power Rangers anymore. (Yeah I’m talking to the 2017 movie as to why it flopped very hard.) Hopefully Power Rangers won’t be on same terms as Marvel or DC is. Otherwise, the brand will have the same vibe.

The Might Morphin' deviated a lot from its original Super Sentai counterpart but it was still beloved due to multitude of different reasons. In fact, in my opinion and experience being a fan of this series and franchise, one of the most famous, arguably most beloved arcs in all Power Rangers Series, "Green with Evil" and "The Green Candle" deviated a lot from its JP counterpart, yet even to this day when I re-watch it as an adult, who also has seen the JP source material, I still love it the way they handled it.
Its not really about following the source material religiously. Many PR fans know and are aware that the shows have always deviated from its source material, its about how they present the show i.e. good story arcs, memorable characters, moments, with a big payoff after a struggle.

To be fair Zayto's color is probably changed because the lead of Kyuranger has an upgrade that turns his suit white and gets an non Red Zord to go with it. Since that's probably most of the Zord fights since they're only having 10 episodes and not a Zord fight every episode so most of the endgame Kyuranger robot fights will be used, that's likely why they did it.

However, the bit about Andrew Laing came out of nowhere to fans particularly on RangerBoard, and I think the catalyst behind why we thought it was out of left field is because Simon rattled it off in a series of tweets (long since edited) where he mentions things “changed” in Cosmic from Dino, which included “new Zedd VA” and threw “Andrew left from online harassment” in as a reply. Of course, the majority of us had no idea it was happening, so to hear that it happened was an unfortunate surprise. As far as your comments on engagement versus avoidance, it’s VERY HARD to dodge Simon on anywhere, because people love to retweet/quote tweet/screenshot his tweets and post them EVERYWHERE, so unless you go into a cave, you’re going to hear what the man says. I personally didn’t care/like Dino Fury much, its not Megaforce or Ninja Steel levels of cringe, but its just sub par to me. It feels repetitive and even the new stuff they have feels hollow.
What made each PR season from the OG and Disney eras, is that sure they had interconnectivity, but still felt unique and separate from each other, even if they were slight dips comparatively.
I don't think I gotta talk about the "its made for kids" argument, its pretty much lost any power it used to have. I am a fan of Sentai and Kamen Rider, the notion that we shouldn't compare the PR adaptation to its original source material is just absurd, especially when there has been PR seasons that some deem better than their Sentai counterpart.
If people wanna enjoy Cosmic Fury and Dino Fury, that is completely fine by me. I am not here to tell others they aren't allowed to watch these seasons even if i personally think there's better ones already out there.
Its such a cop out to say "you just want a copy and paste", no we want a good story. Wild Force is one of my favourite seasons and imo is much better than Gaoranger, because it just does some things way better. Samurai is one of my least favourite seasons because it disrespects my favourite Sentai, which most fans agree is at least pretty good, but adapts it poorly.
If there's one thing PR should teach us, is we are stronger together and accepting of our differences, than we are alone unable to listen to others

Simon's comments about Sentai and toku really rubbed me the wrong way. And the whole discussion about Sentai holding Power Rangers back. Power Rangers isn't popular because it's adapting Super Sentai which can be seen as cheesy to a portion of people, it's not popular because of how badly the show has been handled in terms of writing, marketing, and distribution. Recently on twitter someone shared a clip Geats 9 vs. Gazer in a conversation about fight choreography in Owl House. And people who aren't toku fans thought it was really cool. Some say it was better than what the MCU was doing. Showing that the tokusatsu style can be appeal to a wider audience, it just needs to be marketed and distributed better. But Toei's handling of Kamen Rider distribution is a different discussion.
Then there's the discussion about Sentai holding PR back in terms of its writing due to the footage. While in some areas I can agree like finding matching locations for footage, past seasons have shown they can work with those limitations. Granted they didn't have those awful Saban mandates but we're talking about future shows. Since Cosmic Fury doesn't have to do those mandates anymore. It'd also be nice if Hasbro cared to give PR more budget to shoot more original footage if some Sentai footage wasn't useable for their story.
And while I'm not against Power Rangers trying to do fully original stuff, that'll only matter if the people in charge actually put in the effort to make it the best it can be. Aka making it better than what Sentai is putting out to make the trade-off worth it. Honestly if Hasbro was willing to have original stuff for older audiences while Sentai adaptations still continued for kids programming then there wouldn't be such a massive fuss in the fandom.

Also, I liked to say; I know there's a lot of toxic fans out there that try to make people like the other thing because they like it. But, this video doesn't do it justice. Because, the only reason why I got into Super Sentai, Kamen Rider and Ultraman. Is because all of the production in the suits are completely original and at least for most of them they actually have a proper story structure which adds to the theming. The only reason why I try to get others to watch it is so I can show them how great these stories are. However, I usually just give them a story synopsis which at the very least would get them a little bit interested but I usually give them the choice if they want to watch it or not. I hate forcing shit on others. But, right here in this video only shows that these drama videos are never going to stop all because of a few things I only hear good things about except for the Zord footage but that's because I find it idiotic that they're not going all out with "Making there own power rangers season." If they're not going to commit to making everything original like they said they're going to do.
This is our future generations everyone! Hollywood laughs at us and insults us and we still give them money. And the people that support them. At least Toei is honest about this stuff. Especially about reusing assets from previous series they have the rights too. They don't fucking lie and shit on their fans for it.

I grew up with the original team of Power Rangers and have been a fan of the show throughout its history. I looked forward to the new suits every year, the storylines kept even my parents engaged (my dad loved Time Force), and the music was awesome. They didn’t rely on nostalgia because there was no nostalgia to rely on yet. It’s why PR worked. They HAD to do something new. It wasn’t until Wild Force that we got that first hit of nostalgia. (At the time, Adam’s episode in In Space didn’t feel like nostalgia. Just a part of the story between Carlos and himself). The team up episodes were fun and creative and impacted the story (Lost Galaxy), not an obvious cash grab (even though they were). Forever Red worked because it was a gag for the fandom. It was a one off. It was the cherry atop the dessert after a three course meal, not the whole meal. The problem is they’ve started giving us too many cherries (and with Mega and Super Mega, that’s all we got). Now we can’t go more than 2 seasons without some throwback.
That’s just a symptom of a bigger problem, in my opinion. With each passing era, PR gets sanitized. At this point, it’s become so watered down that it’s become pretty flavorless, so they are “forced” to nostalgia bait to keep people watching. It’s not helped by the fact that since 2011, we’ve only had 6 teams. We’d typically have 13 in this time frame. 6 teams and shorter seasons means fewer storylines and when your writers are writing pretty much nothing but filler for 11 out of the 22 episode season until the team up episode gets here for that nostalgia kick, there’s a problem.
You can see it across the board too. Let’s look at the toy line. There used to be whole sections of PR toys in the store. Now I’m lucky to find more than a few items of questionable quality thrown in with Avengers of all things. No zords, morphers, blasters, weapons, or masks. The only time we get those are at cons, specialty stores, and any time they do an MMPR rerelease.

I feel the Zenith ranger situation could have been so easily resolved if they gave him a "Tommy Like" Chest Plate. Like Red that is a visual that also stuck in our minds!
I do think Amelia becoming red is nice, but now she also has to be a leader. Which luckily seems to hold up. Yet there is also the slippery slope of turning her into a new Rocky. I hope she can lead with Zayto being a "legendary" ranger , coming to their add then the need is most dire, but maybe also having some Solo fights. Similar to the Magna Defender..or as an comparison Flynn (the legendary Librarian) from the Librarians tv show.
I am more excited to watch this show than I would others. With so much in house it is a new era. Now if that era is 10 episodes long , or will provide us content for years to come remains to be seen. Yet that is also part of what makes it exciting. Stakes are higher, so is pressure! We judge more, but that is also because there IS MORE to judge. Costumes and roles are no longer tied to anything, themes and choices are now much free, thus judgable.
That said, Netflix is a fickle Mistress though, if Power Rangers dies, I at least want it to be on the creators! Not because we killed a show's buzz dead before it launched. It's fine to have an opinion on something unreleased but only do the media thing if you are willing to be proven wrong! Otherwise just disengage!

I’m sorry but No, the “representation” was not good at all. Just gonna go into the red ranger debacle for now but Amelia becoming red has issues. Yes she’s the first full time red ranger to lead a season but her costume is partially re used from a previous pink so it’s not even a fully original red, they had to demote Zayto in order to make Amelia red (which was bad in MMPR also), and the acting and story around it was also off in order to build her as the new red IMO.
Overall this is just a forced way to get a female red leader just for the sake of “look look representation!” and this is coming from the guy who loved Janeway as the captain in Star Trek voyager

He was really creepy and would make a big fuss if people didn't agree with his opinions on the show. Then he finally got caught for like p3d0 art on twitter and subsequently defended it. People pointed that out previously but he used to use his connections with people involved in the show and larger, unaware PR content creators to garner sympathy.

      @mintbari  9 месяцев назад

To each their own. The reasoning I had in the video is more the cultural significance that being red ranger has. It's less what his actual role will be, more that the color red has a real world reputation, unlike the new "Zenith Ranger." Ask anyone, even non-fans, what color the leader is and they'll usually say red. I think it's fine to break that convention at times but I think the added pattern that 3 out of 5 reds don't stay in that position adds to the frustration.

After all he did like die so someone did have to take over zayto's position over those 6 months. Plus Amelia is the best choice since she is both rafkonian and she grew up on earth so understands both races.

I just want to ride out this current wave of power rangers. I have lost interest in PR, but i stick around because I'm a fan of toku. I always give the first episode of a series a try, but I have no expectations. Dino Fury was fun, so Cosmic Fury should be a tolerable ride. Hopefully their is a reboot happening, but I am cautiosly anticipating it. I hope PR can spread its wings and grow and maybe try and become something new. No more mmpr nostalgia, no more sentai adaptions (not what i would've wanted but I trust they know what they are doing), and most importantly give kids something worth watching. I know very few kids who like PR, but I do know kids who love feeling older than they are, and hopefully, the new wave of PR can deliver on that.
But it can only happen with better and more mature writing. Maturity does not have to lead to something edgy. Maturity is about having more emotioinal complexity, and only better writing can make a more mature show happen. I have low hopes, but I hope PR can be better.
Also the new aesthetics need to hold up to what sentai have given us. I'll give the CF suits some leeway, since it's Hasbro's first time, but they should learn what make the sentai designs fun and unique and incorporate what they've learned into their own designs. Hopefully the designs for the reboot don't feel lazy, and the morpher and zords should be fun toys aswell, unless Hasbro decides to get rid of the toku-ness of PR. Let's hope Hasbro knows what they're doing.

Me:"As a black man who's seen representation in modern media for my ethnicity, other ethncities, and even the LGBT, I don't have the time nor the patience to explain why what you just said was b.s. I will however say this. What we have isn't a representation problem. What we have is a marketing problem.
Of which I'd rather not get into, but to be blunt, let's just say corporate big wigs are selective on what they want to be popular in media."

    • @mintbari

Get back to me when we get a full-time primary Asian red ranger in the show who isn't casted by a technicality. 🙂
I agree. Marketing sucks but two things can be true at once.
I'm not pulling some bechtel test b.s. on PR (even the creator of the bechtel test's favorite film fails the test). Cause it's easy to point out examples of different minority groups in media, the bar for representation is so low that merely casting minorities is what satisfies this for more people. I disagree with that. What modern media lacks in terms of representation is having these characters AND writing them well, not just for "diversity" brownie points. Only reason, as an Asian American, that I haven't clamored for an Asian red in the last decade of Power Rangers is that I would not trust the show to write the character in a competent respectful way. Therefore, it does not satisfy the mark for diversity. If you think my argument is b.s., at least have the courtesy to explain it.

There are a lot of opinions that I have with Cosmic Fury. If you gonna have a female Red Ranger just add a new character, I think it would be less controversial. For some reason I wish Hasbro didn't adapted Kyuranger and call it Cosmic Fury if it just 10 episodes, It can just be Dino Fury with additional episodes like the last 20 episodes of MMPR season 1, but except they are not filler episodes but can be about the Rangers getting their zords back teaming up with past Rangers.

He's not a 6th that got added, he's a 6th that got promoted. So basically, the black character got promoted as did the female character.
