  • This is my latest video, Involving the traditional art of sign painting (Signwriting), in this video I paint a sign for Riverside tattoo. A tattoo shop in Peterborough, Ontario.
    Sign was completed for the Traditional sign painting company.
    Sign painting is an craft that has been practiced for hundreds of years, and maybe longer.
    Sadly few artists still complete works like this by hand.

    Beautiful composistion again, the vibrancy and design is top notch again matey, the only thing I would say, to ease your pain on multicoating letters etc, is to leave te graphic areas under the lettering blank with just the base colour, it will save you time multicoating letters, and soften the the releif surface of the overlaying plane of the lettering on top, brillant stuff again, cheers for the timeyou put in to make these vids.

      Yeah this was quite a complicated work file to follow so to save time on the design I left some things as they were. At the detriment to slower painting time, but to change the design would have been worse. Not the ideal recourse most times.

    Grasp the roll of tape between the thumb and forefinger and then throw it as far from the easel as possible.

      Terry, I promise I will start doing more video's without it. Well especially the ones that aren't paid work.

      I'd say it's a tool no different to any other and if it improves the work or the process why not

    What kind of tape do you use? Is it masking tape? Drafting tape? Painters tape?

    • @theletterhead
      @theletterhead  Год назад +1

      I use a painters tape. Although only because of its easy availability as its from a distributor we use often for other things.
      The thinner tapes are better and leave less of a ridge where the paint meets the tape. When in the UK we used a thinner more plastic based one which was great for this.

      Some people have a real hate for tape. I had a sign painters friend that had this Wooden backed sign Painter book it was really old either late 1800s or really early1900s. It taught about making Gummed Backed Paper. This was before tape was called tape. Do let people tell you how to do your signs, if something makes your job easier and you feel comfortable taking those steps, then carry on. Some of us that aren't masters are still learning tricks to make the job go more smoothly. I like seeing how the tape (gum backed paper) makes some of those edges a whole lot cleaner and sharp

    Did you wait for the paint to dry before painting the outline?

    • @theletterhead
      @theletterhead  Год назад +1

      Yeah I wouldn't try to paint over it wet and it would cause it to mix.
