Watch out for bears. I’ve had a lot of close encounters fishing in Idaho. Bears are aggressive there.
Staying near Yellowstone and Driggs is the best. No reason to go further.

Hi, Ive decided to go on some fishing adventures. Looking for Streams and, hiking to alpine lakes in Sawtooth's/ Tetons areas and possibly others if I hear of them. I'll be alone most of the time backpacking , camping and not knowing anything about the areas I'll be entering. Ive never had a cougar or, bear encounter before. I was wondering how prepared do I need to be on my adventures. I am a greenhorn , I'm going it's something I have to do. Any Tips from you would be appreciated. Thank you, John.

I enjoy all of your videos but really liked this one. This location is also more doable for a guy like me who doesn't have the money to travel to some of the other destinations you guys show (no complaint since I love those episodes as well, just more of a possibility). I love how genuinely you enjoy the experience and the fish, Mark.

Looks like you cut your teeth on small mouth. When you consider all the factors, accessibility, fight, willingness to take a fly, beauty……for me it’s smallies, with a side of bonefish.

That salamander. Wow !!!! Never seen that before in my life. The Half-Arse fly looks to be a reversed Red Tag.

The alpine lakes are my favorite part about living in Idaho. The fish up there are so aggressive and eat everything and anything. Just find a spot with fish, cast, and you've now caught a fish. Last year I used the IDFG lakes map to help me catch my first golden trout and greyling and this year I'm hoping to finally get a bull trout.

I’m very lucky to live in the interior of BC. Very spoiled fishing high elevation lakes for 10lbs rainbows on the fly!

I say The New Fly Fisher owes it to themselves to cut an Idaho film on the St. Joe above Avery. It's not like you'll be blowing the secret.

It used to be good. It’s been wrecked by mudslides and pollution. Areas around Yellowstone are far better.

When you say, "I've put a beetle on," can you have a close-up of the fly. It would really help me develop my fly collection and my knowledge of the names of the various flies.

Fishing for stocked trout in a stock pond, well at least you weren’t fishing with night crawlers. Its a bit of a stretch of the imagination to call that a high mountain lake, lol.

A lot of alpine lakes were stocked at one point in time. The same way ranbows were stocked in a lot of rivers at one point in time.

They stock most the high mountain lakes in Oregon every 3-5 years with fingerlings. If the adipose is clipped it was stocked with larger trout.

Quite a few trees to be an alpine lake but ok.
